Ok, I hear the groans. But I can turn this around to sort of relate back to shopping and I do admit outright "theft" from the QVC forum for this one.

For some reason that board won't accept my cookies or whatever. Q only wants my money, obviously.

My question is about the judging conspiracy with the new points system. Does anyone here know? And here is my Q tie in...Think of any of those gals buy lipgloss buy the buttload from Q? And wouldn't be cool if Q did a charity day where one of the items would be a skating lesson! Could be part of shoes on sale. Skates are shoes, in a way! Ok. forgive me. I am slap happy now. Been wide awake since 1 AM!

HHI - as another skating aficionado, I love this thread! I think the new scoring system works and works well - the young American couple actually took silver in the ice dance event. In the old political scoring that just would never have happened. As for the merchandising tie-in, the Q has done the whole line of Olympic wear from the 2002 winter games - they even had the same beret Sasha Cohen wore during the opening ceremonies.

I love figure skating. Did you all see Sasha Cohen's awesome performance last week?

I am STILL on waistlist for that beret! LOL

I did see Sasha!!!! She is one of my favorites. I know a lot of people see her as a bratty but I guess I see a lot of my former (younger) self in her. I cannot wait until the winter olypmics!

I wonder why it is taking so long for Tanith to get her American citizenship? Seems like everyone else does it lickety split. I hope someting happens and they get to represent us in 2006. Do y'all remember Anisina and Peizerot (sp?) they were so amazing to watch. It almost felt like you were watching a private moment that was so unbelievable it took your breath away.

Oh..Did I mention I am a dork about this subject? LOL

HHI - from what I hear, the regulations for citizenship have been tightened up considerably since 9/11. Somehow I don't think Tanith rates as a major security threat...I just want to see our teams on top, whupping the Europeans in all the disciplines!

This is corny but I cry and get goose bumps when I see a really good skating performance on TV. I can't skate so I really love to watch it. Does anyone remember the skater that had her music stop in the middle of her routine? The crowd (I think it was in Europe) clapped in rhythm so she had some sort of beat to skate to. I loved that. Dick Button was speechless.

Sorry, I didn't want to put this with my other post in regards to Scott Hamilton.

I love skating, I have watched it for years. Some of my faves: Nancy Kerrigan, Elvis S., Brian B., Kurt Browning, Katarina Witt, Katia, Scott Hamilton. I know there's more, just can't think of names right now.

Oh, Oh, I know...Tanya Harding (NOT-LOL)

Puddy,

Seems like it is Brain Cancer. But, I'm not going to swear to it. I mean, I swear he has cancer, but I won't swear that it is in the brain. He was on ET about a week or two ago and Mary Hart was at his house interviewing him about the cancer coming back. He had his beautiful wife and precious little son right by his side during the interview. It was very touching. Mary Hart had tears in her eyes.

Scott Hamilton has a brain tumor and is undergoing treatment. I haven't heard anything about a prognosis. I LOVE figure skating! I do like Sasha Cohen a lot; I just wish for once to could skate a clean performance! My fingers are crossed for her for next year's Olympics.

Scott has a brain tumor and he is being treated HERE at the Cleveland Clinic. When I was still at CC years ago he was there for his first battle and I swear I tried to stalk him that day! Kind of hard to do though with a cast, crutches and an IV!

Puddy, that isn't corny at all. I get goosebumps from skating, ballet, symphony, Mike Piazza...oh wait wrong thread.

I was never really a fan of Irina Slutskaya, but OMG that poor girl. I cannot believe she continues to skate like that. I was stunned to find out that skating isn't is a lucrative for her as it is for the Americans. I hope some kind soul heard of her and her mother's plights and will assist them.

I loved Nancy Kerrigan too. She was so beautiful to watch.

DId I tell y'all that I live 6 blocks from one of the olympic ice training facilites? Winterhurst Ice Rink (Palace as the locals call it). Timothy Goebel, Jenny Meno and Todd Sands, Scott H (when he is in town) all trained and or practiced here. We used to go and watch SO cool! Also where I go to Physical Therapy it is actually Healthsouth and they train all sorts of athletes. When Tara Lipinski had her hip surgery she did rehab with them. I almost got to do a meet and greet when Stars on Ice was here a few years ago, but I ended up in hospital. BUmmer.

I can't wait to see Ice Princess!

I am so sorry to hear the news about Scott. He is very special, genuine person and that always came through with his performances. He was a sickly child and even before he had cancer the first time, would always visit children's hospitals when touring because he remembered spending so much time in them as a child. Around the time he won the Olympic gold medal in 84, I remember reading about his life. He was adopted and his adoptive mother had cared for him through all of his illnesses. She was the one who arranged skating lessons for him originally, thinking it would strengthen his muscles. Sadly, she passed away at a fairly young age. My thoughts and prayers go out to Scott and his family.

Not touching that last post with a 10 ft. pole. :)

How come it seems that all the female skaters are around 15 yrs. old. It completely ruins my mental enjoyment. Bring back Katarina Witt. :)
