If you think Sheila has a "lisp" on her "s" you should listen to Dan {I cannot
talk at all } Wheeler!!! He drives me crazy!!! I have written to QVC about
his speech!! He says "shh" for any word that starts with st!! Schtable for
stable and on and on, The last time he was on he announced "Next up is
schtaments on schtyle!!! What??? Drives me nuts!!! I think that diction and
speech should be a qualifier for the work they do, but I guess not!!! He also
said last time ,that his 12 year old daughter was having trouble in school and
with reading, my gosh if she listens to him I am surprised she can read or speak at all!!!

I have noticed a lot of celebs doing that lately. Jenna Jameson is the worst. Although I guess in her biz speech patterns do not matter. I just happen to catch her E! THS. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea! LOL

I have problems pronoucing words myself, but to think that the hosts should speak with prefect diction is reallly asinine.
That's like saying if you have an speech impediment you should just shut your mouth and never talk ,because we don't want to listen to you talk.
If you can't do it right.

Hotrod,I DO think that diction and speech are VERY important skills to
have if you are going to be a ON AIR host at QVC, after all they do
nothing BUT talk for three hours at a time sometimes.....if they cannot
speak well they cannot sell well, because they will drive the potential
buyer {ME} nuts, and therfore I will not buy ANYTHING from the show....
GET THE POINT????

Gee, majel, your post sounds like discrimination against people who don't speak well. that's really really mean. ;(

Yes I guess in this day and age it is "mean" to expect a on air sales person
to do the job right.....and actually speak so that one can understand
them....Boy that is asking ALOT!!!! How dare I ask for a sales presentation,
and NOT a speech lesson!!!!

Majel, I don't care for Dan Wheeler. However, if you are implying that you can't understand him, I really think you are exaggerating.

Well i guess i don't need people to be perfect to do the job right.
I hear people all over tv mispronounce names from time to time
and it doesn't effect the story or item they are trying to sell me

I guess if you are a hired announcer, your "thpeech" should be of quality. And, I was going to say that these hosts are paid well to use their voice and it should be of quality also. Then, I remembered Barbara Walters and Jane Pauley and their little speech patterns. So, I guess I have no stand. ha...I don't care for Wheeler much anymore, He kinda gives me the heebie jeebies when he gets next to a woman. I remember years ago when he used to fumble through presentations like jumping in rocks with those Knee pads..He did a cartwheel with a nonskip cd player and it fell off and broke. He immitated Elvis and jumped in splits....He really thinks he is entertaining. He is kind of a dufus...

CUBSFAN - Settle down, big boy. No lasagna for you!

As for Dan "The Man" Wheeler - he's a little creepy to me. He seems nice but just a little icky in a clingy kind of way. They are puting him on more lately...

You deserve to be cut off from lasagna. You will begin to take it for granted if it's too available.

Nope, not Jameson. However when I was a lush that was my fave drink. Now I just use it when I have a "cough"

Ummmm..Lasagna sounds like code for naughty things.......
