I have read many remarks about how Mary Beth Roe owns alot of QVC products. So what? I own alot of QVC products just like alot of people. If she broadcasts the fact that she owns items she presents, it is a testimony on her belief in the products.
I can't stand when hosts say "if this item is still available when I get off the air, I'm buying it". Then it sells out. At least MBR buys the darn thing before it sells out. If you want something, get it - don't talk about it.

I have to agree. I like and trust Mary Beth. I appreciate when she tells us she has owns something too. I never get the sense that Mary Beth is trying to BS us into buying stuff.
And I couldn't agree more with "if this doesn't sell out....I am going to buy" Now that is a load of crap to me!

I always thought they said that so if it was really a sought after item, the host was not "hogging" the merchandise. That way they were giving the customer first chance to buy.

The hosts have not bought all of the things they own (although keep in mind they get a discount). They receive samples from some of the vendors, so they would still "own" that item - they just wouldn't have paid for it, like we have to.

No doubt there are perks of being an "on-air" personality at the Q. I don't care how much stuff these people acquire, just be genuine when you talk of those items you DO have. I wish they could be COMPLETELY honest, cuz you know they don't LOVE LOVE LOVE everything!
I don't like the "I will buy this if it doesn't sell out" talk either ... THAT seems phoney to me!

I agree with the "buying it if it doesn't sell out" stuff, too. That's BS and they know it. It's a crappy, overused sales tactic if you ask me.
I don't think anyone's picking on Mary Beth, just pointing out that she has a lot of Q stuff and tells us about it. She's been there forever so why wouldn't she have a ton of stuff? They get it from the vendors and have an employee discount, too.
Personally, I like Mary Beth very much. She's one of the most genuine hosts on QVC and I never feel the "hard sell" when she's on. Like many astute posters have said, it's gotta be tough to talk about a boring item over and over, so each host has their own schtick they add in. That just happens to be hers.

I wonder who owns more of their companies products Mary Beth Roe or Shannon Smith? :)

I've heard conflicting things regarding hosts ordering things before or after shows. A few of them have said they're not allowed to order anything before a show (or maybe this was during but, to me, that would be common sense!). Others say they're going to order if it doesn't sell out. Still others say they should have ordered something before they came on the air. There's probably some kind of rule about it.

What I find odd about that, is that the hosts know their schedules and the products they will be presenting before they go on air. I find it hard to believe they have no access to ordering. And I would think they know in advance whether or not they wanted something. The shopping channels bank on impulse purchases from the viewers, but not so the hosts. I think it's all contrived.

MBR sells a lot of products just by her being there. So if she says she has a product or will buy it, then she'll sell more that way. She gets paid by how much she sells to the public in a years time. If she says she likes a product, she won't sell as many, but once she says she's getting or has a product, then her sales are much higher. She can't prove to the public concerning much of what she says she has, but it doesn't bother her fans. They'll buy it anyways. Old trick of the trade. Shoveling bullshit to make money is nothing new. Neither is buying a product just to sell thousands more.

Candie, I think you're right on target. And I have to admit, the very first Q purchase I ever made was from Mary Beth. I got a homey feeling from her and before I knew it, I had a Q membership number!

If a person is dumb enough to believe that Mary Beth owns everything she sells, well then, they deserve all those things they buy and don't need. She just seems phony even saying it. The hosts can purchase items before they are aired if they want to. Don't believe that sell out thing.

The hosts don't pay the same price as the public either. Anyone who tells you different is a liar. So it doesn't impress me in the least when they say they have a product that the public paid $300 dollars for and the host actually only paid $100. Those vendors make deals behind the scenes with hosts all the time.
