So, guess the day's "Ten Most Wanted" has now become "Hot Picks"?? Who cares? A sales push by any other name is still a sales push.
What other gimmicks, etc. have changed over the years but are still the same old, same old?

Thank you for this thread! I thought it was just me. The new "hot picks" looks and sound tacky to me. The graphic reminds me of some bad 70's porn. Didn't they also have some crazy thing called "in the spotlight"? I also don't like host pick. Don't tell me a host actually picked some of those monstrousities out, it had to be done under duress!

Yes, yes, yes, - in the spotlight was one. Thank you - I knew there were others when I started this thread but couldn't think that early in the morning and before my second cup of coffee! Thank you, HHIgirl! :)
And you are so right about the Host Picks. What a crock!

I think the hosts' "pick of the show" are the extra crappy pieces they get an extra commission on if they can just unload a few...it's the only explanation I can come up with as to how they're able to pitch them with a straight face.

I hope the seriosly late show goes away. :)

Does JRT coming back just in time for Jill's maternity leave count as a gimmick?
Do y'all think Q has been listening to our complaints so they made JRT a deal she can't refuse?
Funny this is, when Jane was on I could not stand her. Then she left and couldn't stomach the new hosts. I ought to get my head re-examined.

I didn't like Jane either. She seems a little uppity to me. But anyone at this point could only be a step up for QVC.

Just goes to show ya...the new management really is clueless. Anytime you have such a great number of hosts leave (quitting or fired) it does not look good. Just imagine how many other employees that we don't see on air have quit. Check out the open jobs page on the QVC website. I have never seen so many mid to upper level jobs open at one time and they are STAYING open. Apparently, QVC can't get good help.
A gimmick that was good and should be brought back is the jewelry outlet shows that went really fast. They would have two hosts sitting at separate desks and they would spend no more than two minutes an item. Gee, come to think of it, it would also be a great learning tool for the new hosts. If they didn't have to spend so much time on one item, they could increase their creativity and vocabulary and not drive interested shoppers away.

And certain older hosts couldn't spend quite so much time gazing at themselves in the monitors.

LOL!
I have read that other posters think that several show hosts look in the monitor as much as Lisa so I decided to pay a little more attention than normal. Sorry, Lisa R. does it more than all of the other hosts combined! To be sure, I can see a host checking out the monitor that shows what we are seeing but, give me a break!

LOL! So true...I was thinking...hmmm...if we had a dollar for every time Lisa R. glances at the monitor...we would all be rich. Hahahaha!!!

Cubsfan - I checked for you. Dave Jame was/is a morning drive time DJ so I think your "zoo" reference is spot on.

I knew it I can smell a bad morning zoo DJ. He had the zoo stink all over him.
I just hope that stupid show is gone. They left it with a lame cliffhanger.

Maybe they threw him a bone by giving him the show. He's not "official" yet, you know.

It was still a bad premise though.

I agree. It was painful to watch but I could not help myself. Watching it was like waiting for a zit to be juicy enough to pop.

They need to lose the "hot picks" phrase. Patti keeps sounding like she is saying "hot pink" one coming up so I look for something pink, and then it turns about to be a steam cleaner or ionizer or something and I go "what the heck - that isn't pink."

What I would like to know is...WHO decides what they are going to call a "Hot Pick" because I don't think that any of it is that hot!

It's probably the items Q makes the most profit margin on. In other words, "hot picks" for QVC' profits.
