This may be old news for many of you, but I'm new, so forgive me if it is....
Today I read that Puddy is an Adm Assis for a VP at a community college and Novalee works for an ambulance service...... I'm a stay-at-home mom of three children (and team mom for my son's baseball team)--Previous to that, I was an AA for a #2 guy at a consulting firm -- I know all about getting coffee...hahahaha -- I did really enjoy my job though; it was challenging.
What does everyone else do for a living???? I thought it would be nice to find out??
BTW, Novalee, both my grandmas are still living and my father-in-law is elderly. I know what you are saying about some elderly. It is so sad, they are lonely, even if you visit once a week, my father-in-law still calls atleast once a day, and some elderly get depressed as well. My grandmas are. My one grandma just about cries when my children and I leave after a visit.

I was an art major in school , worked in the cosmetic industry for close to 15 years as a make-up artist, trainer and manager. Now that I am a stay-at-home mom, I do part-time modeling for a chain of stores in my area ( nothing big, believe me~ not trying to sound pretentious here!) .... More importantly, I have finally gotten back to my artwork and writing........... and aside from being a mom~this is the most fulfilling!

Illinois, I understand completely about your grandparents and father-in-law. I am the office manager here, and when it became evident that we needed more help in addition to me, I convinced our Director to interview my sister for one of the positions. She had no medical ICD-9 billing or SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM experience, but one thing she is really good at is what I call "people skills". We had a gal in the office who was an excellent biller, but she was horrid on the phone, and I wouldn't let her near the window when someone wandered in. We are CPR certified, and can take blood pressures if people come in and request them, but that was another thing I made sure I did, and not her. Finally she left, and when we hired another biller, in addition to her experience, she had to possess those same "people skills". I am convinced, even when I read posts here, that you either have them or you don't. Unlike the technical aspects of a job, they cannot be learned. Now I'm sure that's way more than you needed to know about me or my job...LOL I think your grandparents and father-in-law are extremely lucky to have someone as loving as you in their lives.

Novalee,
thanks for sharing that info about your job. very interesting and I am sure at times rewarding and then depressing and thought provoking.... you have probably saved many lives with your understanding, initiative with your director, your intuitiveness about people and their skills. the people YOU serve are very lucky.
You are very sweet. Thank you.

I'm a newpaper reporter. Some days, my stories are very upbeat. Other days it can be very depressing. But I love writing; I love the people I work with. And I can relax on this web site. So life is good.

Hey all, some interesting professions here. I'm the lucky stay-at-home mom of a seven-and-a-half-year-old son and an 18-month-old daughter. I sometimes do the bookkeeping for my hubby (he is self-employed), too. I worked for Comerica Bank for 8 1/2 years (customer service rep). I went to school for court reporting; I finished but never did it in the real world.
Fun thread, Illinois, and btw, welcome!

I love this thread and hearing a little bit about everyone. My job is nothing exciting, Office Manager for an SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM agent. It does allow me internet time though. Some days I don't know what I would do if my connection were lost - LOL.

First of all, Ruffles, I LOVE your avatar! Ok, now that I have said that, I am a chemist and I work for a food company. Unfortunately it is a food ingredient company, so nothing we make tastes very good on it's own. Although, maybe that is a good thing.

I taught 4 years and then quit, had a family, stayed home and then returned as a substitute teacher and finally, a teacher's assistant. It is now 29 years later so I guess my dream of becoming a ghost employee is dead. I do like to hunt up items on the Q and on ebay so I bet I would make a great personal shopper if I could stay in the comfort of my own home. I would love to run a QVC outlet center. That is , if one were to open accross the road from me. Ha. I think I am a homebody. but a well coordinated one.

I am a retired guidance counselor and now I work part-time for a university in the capital city. My specific job is to reach out to the high schools in the state and connect them with the university and the professors as one of the elements of high school reform--a major initiative in my state. It's fun and interesting.

Ruffles ... congrats on your "new husband"! :-)
HHIgirl ... you always make me laugh!
I volunteer for a local non-profit organization. When I'm not delivering meals to home-bound cancer and hiv paitients (typically 3 days a week), I "man the phones" and greet walk-in's. I used to be in real estate (hubby still is) but it just got to be too stressful for me. Plus, I didn't feel like I was "contributing" enough. I still help him out on occasion, with showing properties or working on advertising, etc.

Hey Purplelady:
Your job sounds interesting and I like the idea of being at home. I am currently an Exec. Admin. Asst for two sales executives at an apparel firm. I've been doing this for 20 years. Would love to have an at home job. How does one go about becoming a medial transcriptionist?
