Dear Lisa,

We, the undersigned QVC Style Police, request that you take advantage of your upcoming hair appointment to take a risk and do something dramatic--I'm thinking chin length would be very attractive, and no, your face is not too round. In return, we vow to stop picking on you. At least for a while. We can't commit long term. It's who we are. It's what we do. (And you know it's all done with affection anyway, right?)

Respectfully submitted,

Curvigirl

Lisa ~ please go natural on everything: hair color, eyebrow color, eyelashes (mascara only, please), lips (no injections or lip liner), fingernails (clear polish if you wish), toenails (acrylics not necessary there either). Lisa, obviously you are a beautiful lady and we would just like to see the natural you. Sometimes you tend to go way overboard and by doing so you are encouraging your peers (Patti R., et al) to overdo also.

Please give this request some serious consideration.

Thank you.

Love, Mammy

Mammy - great advice for Lisa. Lisa should remember she had to have good raw material for beauty or she never would have won those pageants! She doesn't need all the paint and spackle!

Lisa, don't listen to all of these people on here. You are the most gorgeous woman in the world.

You don't need to change anything about your appearance unless you, and only you, want to change something.

I agree with the above post. This is indeed a public forum and anyone can say what they wish but a Lisa R: Please Read thread. Come on?! I think some of you are taking this way too far. Yes her appearance should be nicely kept, and well maintained, but who are you people to tell Lisa what she needs to change or start doing. I would love to see pictures of some of you. If you donot like a particular way she wears her hair or how she wears her makeup there is nothing you can do. That does not affect how she does her job. Why don't all of you post your pics somewhere on here and we can all say what are opinions are and what should be changed. I would love to see some of your reactions.

I have to agree with Maryanna. Lisa does do a great job. I bet she can sell most hosts under the table. I am sure that is why she has been there so long. I know that hosts do not get paid on comissions, BUT, I wonder if they get a year end bonus based on what they do sell. That would be interesting to know.

As far as her appearance, I think that she would look great in a new hair cut... But that doesnt affect her abilities....

QVC is a business, and its business is to sell. Therefore, logic would say that the hosts who sell the most products are worth more to QVC, which then follows that those hosts would make more of a base salary, and earn more of a bonus. As for Lisa, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, which I guess we all do at times, I really like her. Her beauty queen look may be severe to some, but it's her. Frankly, I don't notice it much because I find her personality so likeable that I focus on what she is saying. Do I buy more products from her? Yes, I do, because I like her, which means I am more inclined to watch QVC when she is on. So I guess my long-winded bottom line is, Lisa, as she is, is a huge draw on QVC, so apparently her fashion, makeup and jewelry sense is just fine with them. :)

paula6956
07-13-2005, 05:08 AM
I agree! I always try and watch Lisa when she is on. Like I have said, I met her last November, and she is as nice & sweet, off camera, as she is on camera. She takes time to talk to callers and seems sincere in her conversations. I too, do buy more when she is on. BTW, my husband watches her with me when she is on, so I know she appeals to men as well. My husband talked to her as well when we where at QVC in November and commended her on her interview with the Donald. She was humble and asked him, if he thought that she did a good job. So, I really do not have a thing bad to say about her....

I totally disagree and do NOT want Lisa to do the short hair-cut ... don't think it would be flattering for her, and really doubt that is the look she would go for.

She's a girly girl ... she likes make-up, she likes big hair ... while I don't love the lip-liner, I think her look is fine! Leave the soccer mom look to Mary Beth!

paula6956

Beekeeper, I didnt saythat Lisa had to go for short hair. I just think that she needs a new look. Her hair really has no style to it. I think she needs a new hair style, maybe not a hair "cut"....

Hi Paula!

I have to say that I'm not fond of short hair styles! Chin length IMO is short! I've always had longer hair, so I just see anything above the shoulder as being drastic! lol ...

Whatever works for YOU Paula! I'm certainly not trying to "diss" anybody here! IMO, me being a girly girl, short hair seems drastic! I know there are girly girls with short hair ... cutting your hair short(er) just seems like a "mom" thing. Neither Lisa or myself are there yet!

paula6956
07-13-2005, 09:46 AM
I guess thats my answer then. I am a Mom, LOL!!! But really, I have very thick and coarse hair and I did try and grow it and that was a diaster...I wont tell you what it looked like.. And personally, I for one, am one that looks better in short hair.

beekeeper
07-13-2005, 09:52 AM

I'm a MOM and right now I have very long hair almost to my waist. But in the past I also tried a very short hair style just below my neck. I liked it too and was attractive but I get bored easily so I am constantly changing style and color!

My hair is naturally curly and thick and although I straighten it, I looks healthy. Lisa's hair is very thin, overprocessed and think she would look great with a few inches off the bottom and some layers for body.

Bottom line, it all depends on what YOU are comfortable with.

Mosh
07-13-2005, 12:37 PM
It is my understanding that Lisa is very different off camera than on. She is imperious, demanding and arrogant off the set. This I have been told by the numerous people that have had personal exposure to her. However, that being said, it is rare that one would find an on camera persona to be the same as off camera. After all, TV is not the real world, and these individuals are not your friends. It is a job where they are hired to sell a product line. So many callers to the Q act as though the hosts really know or care about them. They don't. Frequently, one will hear a caller make a comment such as, "I spoke with you on air last month and I told you about my Aunt wearing Breezies." Or a better one:"I was in the audience of the last show and I wore a red t-shirt."
It is sad that so many people really, truly believe that these hosts are their intimate companions.

B.R.
07-13-2005, 12:46 PM
Mosh,

You are full of very interesting information. And I agree about callers thinking that the host are their friends. Bottom line, the host are there to sell sell sell under any circumstance. So if you think I am your friend, you will buy more for me......sad but true.

Novalee
07-14-2005, 05:54 AM
For many people, the hosts at the shopping networks are like "friends", because they may be housebound and the TV is like a companion. There is someone "live" 24/7. If the callers think the hosts remember them, or like them, what's the difference? I don't see the harm in that, provided they are not buying things they can't afford. But compulsive buying can affect anyone, and it isn't good for any of us. Now, I just need to repeat that to myself until I believe it...lol

BR, you do make a good point, though. It really is sad if the hosts are all the "company" some people have. :(

I believe the only way one can get "on the air" is if one purchases a product, correct? One of the gentlemen with whom I work is very concerned with his mother. She has boxes and boxes of QVC around her house. She watches 24/7 and buys many items she does not need. The "Q" is her companion and the hosts are quite pursuasive. She had a doctors visit the other day and she told her doctor that she had no food in the house and yet, her children bring her food because she spends her money on QVC. It is interesting that addictive gamblers are required to register and the SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMs in AC are required to keep them out. I wonder if there is such a phenomenon as the addictive QVC syndrome such as I just described.

Novalee
07-14-2005, 09:13 AM
I hope I was clear about not approving of people purchasing items they don't have the money for, especially if they are not buying food or other necessities. That is not to say that everyone who gets "on the air" is making an irresponsible purchase, nor does it mean that every older or infirm person is unable to manage their finances. That's just insulting. My point was that for some people, having QVC on to keep them company is not necessarily a bad thing, but certainly compulsive personalities need to be as careful with home shopping as SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM, drinking, overeating, etc. Mosh, I do agree with you completely about recognizing that as a bonafide addiction. I just don't know what family members can do to help their loved ones in those cases.

I'm confused. Why do some of you feel that Lisa still has pageant hair? Her hair is not teased and molded into place. I think her hair looks very natural lately. I do agree on the severe eyebrows and false eyelashes, ok, and the lipliner too, but her hair looks much better. She also has very fine hair, and regardless if it is short or long, fine hair always flops.

Harley - Once again, I must direct you to www.missresacabeach.com

There you will see photos of Lisa's real hair. It was not thin (as you describe it) way back in the day. It looks the way it does for one reason and one reason only - Lisa herself. She straightened and bleached her hair into what it looks like right now. Her hair was what I call va-va-voomy. As for fine hair always flopping (or curly hair frizzing, etc.) there are several products out there and many trained professionals that can help people with 'bad hair' days. Sorry, she's a grown woman and has HAD that head of hair for almost 40 years. She should be familiar with it by now, right?

Puddy, I respect your opinion, but first, I was not able to access that site, but I do remember what her hair looked like. Ok, remember every 7 years our body changes, AND unfortunately our hair gets thinner as we get older. I am in my late 30's and my hair is not as full as it was when I was 20 something. My hair is a little on the fine side and many moons ago I also had a perm and my hair looked a lot fuller than it actually was. Skip to the present, I have a wave to my hair and I like to straighten it, but my hair would look a lot fuller if I left it wavey.
Hey, I'm just coming to her defense in the hair department, because I know what it's like not to have straight THICK hair, which is what I always wished I was born with. The makeup thing is another story.

I wonder if she wears false eyelashes, heavy lipliner and eyebrows when she is not on the air???

For Harley - Go to www.resacabeach.com, go to Past Contests, go to 1988 (at the bottom), scroll down to the bottom to see several photos of that year's contest. That will give you several views of the 'real' Lisa. Now, THAT is a beauty contestant.

As for your hypothesis on our bodies changing - I agree 100%. However, WE must adjust and CHANGE ourselves accordingly and most of all ACCEPT the changes we cannot avoid.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Dallas. I have never said anything about Lisa as a person. She could be the sweetest gal or the biggest b***h on the planet and either way, that is not the issue here. Lisa lacks one of the biggest beauty secrets any woman can possess - credibility. I cannot comment on her as a person but I sure will comment on what I see on my television - whether it is the news, a sitcom or a shopping channel and I just cannot bring myself to "Ask Lisa About Style". People can post anything on this BB and should be allowed to do so. (Except for Sniffles the Stakler) I'm not jealous of Lisa or any other woman for that matter. My problem is the lack of common sense more than anything. Once again, thanks. :)

Maybe Lisa's shows have the highest ratings? Jonathan may not like working with Lisa but it is the viewers that count.

puddy
07-16-2005, 09:45 AM
Absolutely, I agree 100%. Those products sold BEFORE the show even started. Heck, Lisa and Jonathan could have taken a coffee break for the entire hour and it still would have been a sell out show.

As for Lisa having high ratings - I'm sure she does, as do certain other hosts, depending on the products that are being sold. But remember, just like people tune in to see Joan Rivers, they tuned in to see Jonathan. That will raise the viewership/exposure for a host, too, depending on the draw the GUEST has.

puddy

Also check out the photos from 1987 and 1989 with Lisa as a runner up and then has the departing "Miss". The contest has, ah, always been a bikini contest. There is a distinct lack of silicone in the older photos of the girls compared to the more recent contests. Some of those jugs look like they hurt! :O

As far as nothing we can do about Lisa's look well if we email QVC enough we may be able to get them to talk to Lisa R. about her look and get it changed. As long as she keeps away from glasses but returns to sandals on herself I'll be happy.

I think Lisa's own hair is actually very straight like we see it now. Seems to me that her hair was permed in those old photos to make it appear as if she had more hair back in the beauty queen days.

I like Lisa's hair style but I do believe she desperately needs a trim. She should also get it much shorter around her face to show it off more......like she needs that!

beekeeper

beekeeper
08-03-2005, 07:34 AM
Puddy ... so she has really curly hair that she straightens, or is it just wavy? I have just a little wave in my hair, enough to throw a wrench in the "straight" look.

I have a girlfriend who has super curly hair, and most people don't know it because she has been straightening it for so long. She has it chemically done a couple times a year, but has to touch up with an straightening iron every day.

puddy
08-03-2005, 07:41 AM
Yes, it is (or was!) curly and she straightened it. Now, it's a little on the dead side. That is why it will not hold a curl now. You can see older still shots of her on the internet and that is a natural curl, not a perm, according to my mom, the cosmetologist. Lisa said it herself and I heard it. It was years ago but this is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Yippie - All I can say is this and they are not my words, they were spoken by Lisa Mason when she was on with Stacie a few days ago. They were selling mascara and talking about spiders or catepillars as eye lashes. Lisa said something to the effect of 'sometimes you just have to pull your girlfriend aside and say, honey, what are you doing with all that mascara?' Does that mean Lisa Mason is in the same boat as the posters you are referring to? As for Lisa R. - if YOU ran QVC would you allow her to be on the air with dirty hair? A stero-typical idea of beauty is not what we are discussing when we mention things about Lisa R. Basic grooming is a requirement for being on television. Her appearance is part of her job especially if she expects us to buy clothing, make up and skin care from her. Last night she had on the same white pants and tan pointy toed shoes from Monday night. 'Nuf said?

Consider this for one moment: why would a host of a TV show that is selling products wear the same outfit repeatedly? It makes no sense to me. Even if a host has multiples of the same slacks and shoes, it would seem, that her producer would say,"the viewers are going to believe that is the same outfit you had on the other day." Wouldn't it?

Does that mean Lisa Mason is in the same boat as the posters you are referring to? As for Lisa R. - if YOU ran QVC would you allow her to be on the air with dirty hair? A stero-typical idea of beauty is not what we are discussing when we mention things about Lisa R. Basic grooming is a requirement for being on television. Her appearance is part of her job especially if she expects us to buy clothing, make up and skin care from her. Last night she had on the same white pants and tan pointy toed shoes from Monday night. Lisa please read, this board is populated with too many no lifers. People who have nothing else better to do than to imagine that you have worn the same outfit for the past two years. evidently they Tivo your shows and use the zoom in check your makeup, undoubtedly most of them don't wear any based on the fact they post an average of 500 posts a day.

Maybe yippie, but here's something to ponder: what is actually more pathetic, being a "no-lifer" who has nothing better to do than scrutinize QVC show hosts (in a QVC Host forum, mind you), or being an even-less-than-no-lifer who has nothing better to do than scrutinize the "no-lifers"?

Just curious...

Yip - Your response tells me one thing. My opinion of you is correct. May god bless you. As for me "imagining" - nope, sorry, not me.

Curvi - You are correct again.

Hey, Puddy! If you said Lisa's hair was naturally curly, I believe you! You do have credibility in my book! I never knew..............

Anyway, is nothing real on her? I'm surprised her hair doesn't frizz up in humid weather. If she keeps straighening her hair, no wonder she's losing it!
Why not go with the flow and have a healthy big head of hair? She likes big hair right?

The reason I'm wondering is because I have very, very, very straight hair, always did, and when it gets humid (like now and forever), my hair goes limp, limp, limp. No frizz here. And Lisa's hair seems to be going limp in this weather too??????????????? Just wonderin'.....................

Ruff, ruff!

As for what is real and what's not - the scoop on that is between her and her Mama! It's the fact that she says one thing and does another that bugs me. All I can say is, 'Don't shoot the messenger'. Apparently, people that criticize other people's observations (and that IS what they are - they are not all opinions) cannot see what I see and I end up getting flamed for something that I have nothing to do with. I'm a big girl and I usually eat people like that for breakfast.

As for over-processed hair - If it is lifeless due to over-processing, it will do nothing year round. If you hair is naturally curly, it will probably go bananas in the humidity. If your hair is straight (like mine) it will look flatter and straighter in the humidity because you are hotter, sweatier and producing more natural oils. I switch to volumizing products for the summer. Be careful because some can strip your hair (if you color). If you do not want to use a volumizing shampoo for that reason, just use a volumizing conditioner. It will have less 'heaviness' and also try to refrain from touching your hair. The oils from your hands make it into your hair and weigh it down.

Nick Chavez would be proud...sniff...sniff. LMAO!

Puddy, I do know that Lisa Mason has curly hair and that she or Gino straightens it. I remember her saying so. Lisa Mason, IMO, looks very good with her natural curly hair, kind of like a real southern belle.

I did not know about voluminizing shampoo stripping your hair if you color it. I am all for "poof" but I will cut down now. Thanks for the info. I think you are still brilliant..........and funny.............and we just can't get mad at you!
You are too nice!
