Technology caught up with two suspects in a Villa Rica home burglary after one of them used the house's telephone to call home.
Kevin Tucker, 23, of Temple and Brittney Smith, 18, of Villa Rica were arrested Monday, said Carroll County sheriff's Lt. Shane Taylor.
The burglary occurred Sunday afternoon, and when the homeowner — Tucker's aunt — returned and found her checkbook and four credit cards missing, she for some reason punched the redial button on her phone, Taylor said.
Smith's mother, Mary, answered and said Tucker and Smith had called from the victim's house on Happy Hollow Road on Sunday afternoon to ask whether they could shower at Smith's house, Taylor said.
The pair were spotted Monday shortly after checking out of the Days Inn in Villa Rica, Taylor said. The victim's missing checkbook and credit cards were found on Tucker, he said.
Taylor said the suspects blamed each other for the burglary, but both were charged with burglary.
Smith was released on $4,000 bond, but Tucker remained in the Carroll County Jail on Tuesday because of a probation violation.
