View Full Version : QVC "Stylists" (?)

Hi everyone ~

I've been reading the posts re the hair, clothing, and make up of the hosts. Our local TV news anchors have "stylists" who do their hair and make up, plus their clothing is pretty upscale. Anyway, I do wonder how in the world Lisa R. gets on-air with her 1980s hairstyle, cream pants (time after time) and pointy shoes? Why are some of these hosts allowed to look atrocious when presumably there must be pro's doing their hair/make-up before they go on-the-air? I can't imagine they are expected to do it themselves. The models don't tend to look like they are stuck in a time warp.

The clothing choices are not always shock worthy when they must wear the TSV (Denim & Co or whatever). But many of them also wear clothing that is not "Color Me Beautiful." I will say that Jill usually looks hip and cute w/her hair, etc.

What do you all think?

Jennifer

I heard Lisa R. mention something about her stylist and her eyeshadow. I fell right off my chair thinking either this stylist is out of style or she is afraid to suggest a new look for Lisa R!!

For some resason, ALL of the women hosts look better when a hair person is "in the building"..........like Nick ( sorry, I like him ) or Peter Coppola......why is that, if they each have "stylists"?
Perhaps they just hire average people......when I worked in cosmetics you found out fairly quickly that there are make-up artists and make-up ARTISTS.

Hello missitaly.

Who was it who hosted on Laura Geller yesterday & said at the beginning of the show, "I did my own make-up."? That statement is made once in a while, as if it is unusual, so they must normally have a stylist. However, I've also heard hosts say, "the stylists are for the models not the hosts". Maybe inside info is needed to figure this one out.

BR - I agree that a stylist could be afraid of Lisa. She doesn't seem very open to suggestions. In fact, last night Leslie Blodgett gave her some grief about keeping allegiance to only the big kabuki brush and being unwilling to even try the small one. Stubborn?

I think it was JRT who said she did her own makeup.

I totally question the hosts when they say they are wearing the makeup they are presenting. Are each assigned certain brands so they can stand true to that statement (ie Lisa R to BE)?

And something else I've wondered about the style factor to QVC - Their TSVs are not for everyone, but the hosts all wear it, that is understandable, but when there is not a clothing item as the TSV, can't some of the younger hosts wear something more "in style"..or not even that, how about something that would fit their age?

Some of them can't be much older than me, and I know some of those outfits (shoes included), I would never be caught dead in them!

Hello Kitty, its all about sales. The hosts are going to say and wear anything to get us to buy the product. They think we think if its good enought for them, its good enough for us. Although I don't think I have ever seen Lisa R in Quacker Factory, I could be wrong.

I know Lisa R does wear BE and there is a friendship between her and Leslie B that seems to be genuine.

I thought it was very funny when Lisa showed the "pat" movement she does with the Kabuki brush acrossed her face, I don't think Leslie was too pleased with that, since this is not BUFFING!!!!!

So right! Tap, tap. Buff, buff, buff! Never a pat. LA

And only using the Kabuki brush is NOT good for sales on the other brushes.....oh Lisa LOL

Hello?!? lol ... have we not learned anything from watching all the red carpet events? These ladies and gentlemen all have stylists ... and they still manage to look pretty scary at times. Not all stylists are great! They typically work with what the client wants ...

Some of the hosts have mentioned a hairdresser who does their hair. Sheila toward the end of her time on Day OF Beauty mentioned a stylist picking her jeans for her and she wanted to see how they looked on camera.

and it did look like JRT did her own makeup... When she is on, I am off to another channel.... I never did care for her but since she is back, UGH!!!!

I agree Paula, JRT looked overly made up to me on Saturday. Her face looked too dark, looked like she got a little carried away with the bronze and brighten. She always reminded me of a small rodent.

Back when I worked at QVC (it's been a decade) the show hosts did their own makeup and hair. They had a clothing allowance and chose what they would wear. Some had good taste, some did not.

Models were pretty much in the same boat back then (only without the clothing allowance).

Shortly before I left, QVC began using a stylist for the models during big fashion hours and events but even then we were still doing our own hair and makeup.

My old tapes alone ought to have been enough of an incentive to pay professionals to do hair and makeup!

Of all the host, I think Lena dresses the prettiest. Her make up is pretty and the majority of the time her hair looks great.

lol ... yeah, these men ... what are ya gonna do?

I'm probably the minority, but I really like Rick doing jewelry shows! I remember back in the day, David doing one ... bad ... VERY bad. Also, can't stand Dan Wheeler doing them either.
