OT: Hurricane Rita now a category 5!

Let's hope that this one doesn't devastate Texas like it did MS & LA. It is definitely going to affect the price of oil and natural gas and do quite a bit of damage wherever it hits.
At least they are making the right choice this time with evacuations and the feds are gearing up for it. It's too bad they had to learn the hard way with Katrina.

I've noticed that the Red Cross hasn't been asking for donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina, but rather victims of "Hurricanes 2005." I guess they know what they're talking about.

A few years back on CNN, I was watching this report where they invented a type of "bomb" that would put the kibosh on hurricanes before they hit land. If I was the governments of the USA, Mexico and all the other Carribean Islands; I would get to work because the intensity of these hurricanes are going to get worse. If I had my way, I would steer all storms to go hit a worthless country like NORTH KOREA!!!!! I'm glad a lot of people are evacuating. I think I heard it's expected to make landfall Friday night/Saturday morning. It looks like we might see a better outcome with Hurricane Rita. Let's hope anyway.

Did anybody catch that emergency landing of the JetBlue Airbus in CA? Talk about Fabulous. Man that pilot was 'Da Bomb'. Those people had to be freaking out, though. I would have been. Cheers to a safe landing!

I did - it was fantastic. I'm sure they'll show that film to pilots as part of their training program! Did you hear, Missy, that the passengers onboard were watching the whole thing unfold on TVs on the plane? YIKES - how awful for those passengers. Thank goodness it ended well.

I didn't know where to put this and didn't want to start a new thread as it has to do with hurricanes.

Did anyone hear one of the "talking head" tv preachers saying this was God's way of cleaning up debauchery and homosexuality and perverison? That all the praying has exercised God's might he is cleansing this planets modern day Soddham and Gomorrha? I was horrified. All those thousands of people suffering and some buffoon comes up with this statement. I want to say it was Pat Robertson since it sounds like something he would concoct. But I am not one hundred percent sure.

What is amazing in the aftermath of all these disasters is how mankind truly does help each other in a time of need and we all come together.

HHIgirl not too long ago we had a freak poster (troll) on here by the name of Tony and or Fred who was saying God sent Katrina to New Orleans to rid the place of evil people. I think we chased the weirdo away because I haven't seen him lately.

I put those so-called preachers on a level with the fanatical Muslim religious leaders. I refuse to believe that whatever version of the Supreme Being you believe in would want pain and suffering for people, regardless of their behavior. Whatever happened to the concept of a merciful God?
