View Full Version : OT: What a man should possess

With all due respect to Curvi for creating the antithesis to this thread.

First off. No lying about height! Do not tell me you are 6'1 when in reality you are only 5'6. And please don't plead the fact that once you did measure 6'1 but that was inches, you dolt!

A library with the classics bound in leather
NO wall to wall carpeting
An appreciation for the arts and signed Lichtenstein in lieu of the beer stein poster.
No porn, anywhere, ever
A kitchen floor you do not stick to
A clean turlit bowl
A current driver's license and no DUI's
No bumper stickers anywhere on a vehicle, ever
No handy penicillin just in case

BR, your turn!

(Actually, the inspiration for the What Not To Look For thread came from Jasmine. I just stole her line and ran with it.)

BTW, the #1 thing a man should possess (IMO) is a wicked and slightly bent sense of humor.

I thought you were going to say bent "member". lol

My numero uno is compassion and love for animals, followed by humor, then intelligence and having a nice smile.
(Of course cleanliness and dressing decently and lack of the things mentioned in the other thread are a given)

I neglected to mention a man who is good with his hands, you know the handy man type, like Ty Pennington or Carter Oosterhouse! ;D

HHIgirl, I would just be happy if a man didn't act like he WAS possessed! :)

OK Seriously now, IMO, this is what is important to BR™:

Maturity, I dated someone who was 37 and acted like he could have been a classmate of my son's. I agree a sense of humor is key but the right sense, this particular guy, my friends and I refer to him as Forrest, had this corny warped sense of humor.

Professional, smart, intelligent, interesting, I want to learn something and explore new horizons.

Classy, stylish, dresses well, clean-shaven, good posture and won't embarrass me infront of my friends, co-workers or family (if it got that far)!!

Drive a nice car, place they live needs to be neat, clean and decorated nicely (this tells so much about a man), has a good job (something that I could relate too).

FUN, they should know how to kick back and have FUN!!

More to come, I'm sure I can think of other things..........

He can NOT be afraid to get his hands dirty, but have well kept fingernails!

Have the the "lack" of ego to allow me as a woman, do the things that I need to do, ie: cry, cuddle, fall asleep in his arms, make more money if the opportunity presents itself, buy him a shirt ... :-)

He must cherish his mother, but not be mama's boy!

Cubbie ... you are referring to porn, right? lol ... yeah ... haven't found a guy yet who doesn't like it in SOME form!

What is that all about? I mean ... I've seen it, it was ok ... but where is the fantasy? Where is the love story? I need more than just "wham, bam thank you maam"!

lol ...

AussieMrs

bee, I know what you mean, and I think women could make A LOT of money doing it...I mean doing the behind-the-scenes work, not star in them! LOL There's got to be more of a storyline, but not too much (we are talking porn, here, for God's sake!). There are a couple out there that are good, though. ;)

Cubsfan - With height being # 1, I thought you were referring to the "appreciation of the arts" "Roy Lichtenstein" requirement. It's the porn? Oh. I would have rather stayed single. This is all about high standards and I quite agree with HHIgirl. Maybe you were teasing? To each his own.

LOL Missy :) You dog....... Who would've known? Oh, you were talking about Storylines, right? ;)

But of course, beaglelvr, what did ya think? ;) Like they say, variety is the spice of life.

To what extreme are we talking about here for porn? The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition , HLM magazine or Victoria's Secret catalog are considered porn to some.

Jasmine46
09-22-2005, 01:18 PM
I think it's normal for a man to have curiosity and look at porn on the internet, but to get obsessed and look at it regularly is not normal. To intentionally seek it out at a store or movie rental place and waste time watching those kind of movies is pretty pathetic. I was totally sickened and shocked when I borrowed my mom's husband's computer and all these sex popups appeared. He actually pays to belong to sex sites. Now that's sick!

beekeeper
09-22-2005, 01:29 PM
I'm guessing you don't care for the guy ... ???

Jasmine46
09-22-2005, 01:50 PM
You got that right! It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't hug my sister's daughters inappropriately and stare at their boobs and then pretend to be so religious. It's a good thing we don't live near them, or my husband would have gotten into it with him by now!

beekeeper
09-22-2005, 01:52 PM
Ewwwww ... I'm so sorry for your Mom! Does she not see him acting inappropriately?

Jasmine46
09-22-2005, 01:58 PM
Unfortunately, she is in denial and lives in a dream world. She's from the generation where you have to have a man and she took the first one that came along after my dad died. It must be easier to be oblivious than to face reality when you're a certain age.

HHIgirl
09-22-2005, 02:19 PM
Oh Jas, I am so sorry. How discomforting for you. Why is the overtly pious that always have the sex hang ups and addictions?

I am ok with the soft porn stuff. The mags Bee mentioned. That is normal and artwork and beautiful. Heck, even I look.

In the "fantasy" man world: He should own a custom made tux and know how to waltz!

(Yes, I am still stuck on John O! I know Bee that Alex and Kel are your fave but there is just something about a BIG man that I find so.....)

Jasmine46 - My heart aches that you, your sister & nieces, and in a different way, your mom, have to deal with such a situation. So very scary and sad.

IMO, the S I swimsuit edition & Victoria's Secret, are NOT porn. Neither are nude paintings in art museums. ha!

Jasmine46
09-22-2005, 05:05 PM
The real one to feel for is my mom. My sister and I live far away and don't have to see him much. We are trying to get my mom to go away without him, but he's a wiener and can't take care of himself, so it's hard.

I don't think SI or Victoria's Secret are porn, either. Playboy is just barely. There's a giant statue of David at a La Jolla hotel that is almost porn, though, when you look up at it a giant you-know-what is hanging down! It's quite shocking if you're not prepared for it!

LA-CAgirl3
09-23-2005, 05:15 AM
Jasmine46 - It is a relief to know girls are away from him. Sorry about your mom. She may surprise you someday.
I have seen the original of Michelangelo's "David" in Florence, Italy. Don't know if La Jolla's is full sized but let me say the Uffizi's is quite an eye full! Art. It is just art! :O
Have a nice weekend. LA-CA

Just realized the irony of last 2 posts in relation to title of thread. Hahaha!

What a man should possess ... pants that hit him at his waist, NOT 6 inches above it! (just saw Bob Bowersox ... bleck)
