View Full Version : Remember when the QVC hostesses were only permitted to have light manicures?

I remember...French manicures, or sheer pale nail polish on the fingers. Then one day Mary Beth said they are allowed to wear colors. As much as I like different colors of polishes, I wonder if the pale colors were better because of how close up the camera gets. A few times I have seen hosts wear darker shades and you can see where is slightly chips, whereas on the paler colors it may not have been so obvious.

And I think I wrote this already...but don't like Lisa's new French manicure. Too much white. And while I'm at it, I like when Colleen Lopez on HSN has French manicure. Don't like her in anything else.

I kind of like color. I can stand to see french manicures when the white needs to be touched up or if it is knicked. Shelia is horrible about there. Back during the summer she had a serious chip and said "she didn't have time to have it repaired." I would have filed it down before I got on television and said that. What was she thinking? Speaking of nails Rick's are looking a lot better these days. I think Lisa's nails always look like she needs a fill in. They look like chicklets.

In Kathy Levine's first book, she said she liked to paint her nails a bright red occasionally, just to see if management was noticing - if they did she would receive a memo about it. They were always supposed to look conservative and professional - obviously things have changed since then!

I always thought Judy Crowell has the best hands & nails. She always wore a beigey champagne color polish and it never looked like she needed a fill like Lisa. I also thought she looked naturally tan and fit, and not too made up like Lisa or Patti. She may not be gorgeous, but she is the type that looks neat and well put together all the time.

I agree Jas, I think Judy's nails always looked great. Mary Beth Roe has nice nails also and keeps them very neat and polished. I could NOT stand Christa Pitts nails they were awful, looked like she just got done doing 6 hours of housework everytime she hosted.

Has anyone seen Carolyn Gracie's nails and fingers? While she seems like a very nice woman, her hands are horrible for someone who has to have their digits on camera.

I agree with you Judy's hands/nails were always nice. Mary Beth's are neat also but I just don't care for the frosty type colors. I also think Leah wears alot of pretty colors, I just don't care for the nails.

Hi Green I's, I also have to agree about Carolyn, while I do enjoy her as a host, her hands look very manly. I have caught her a few times hosting jewelry and when she presents rings, I cringe, she does not have the hands of a jewelry model.

I don't like french manicures unless they are on natural nails. I can't stand the chicklet nails ... painted or otherwise. Those thick acrylic nails creep me out.

Judy really did have great nails!

Hi BEE:

Yes, Judy had the most beautiful and natural looking nails and they were manicured perfectly....

Hi Paula! :-)

Judy was a fave of mine, but now I don't really care for her anymore over on HSN. :-(

Lisa Mason's nails are alright ... at least they aren't those acrylic chiclets that Lisa R. has!

I've always thought that Joan Rivers had the nicest nails! Her polish is fabulous!

Hi BEE;

Yes, I really dont care for her either since she went over to HSN...Something is different, she just isnt the same.

AS far as Joans polish I know that you have said that her polish is great.
Thats why on Saturday I bought the one time only. It was a set of 10 of her polishes....

BTW, Carolyn Gracie's hands/nails look like she should be a construction worker or something. They are not feminie hands at all.

I'm pretty sure that Judy's nails are natural. I don't think she ever used the acrylics. I remember once when she had broken a nail over the week-end........she said she did it while she was water-skiing, and it took quite a while for it to grow back to the same length as the others. (If they were acrylics, she could have had it mended very quickly.)

Lisa's new nails were obviously done by a newbie. The ratio of white to clear is off. They are too long for her and the sub-par work is only accentuated in a close up.

I think if the host is wearing Pro Strong or Joan Rivers, they can and should wear colors.

Remember Antonella's nails when she started? I have always wondered why the management did not change her looks during her training period. Why let someone go on the air and then gradually change them? They camera test these people so I don't get the timing.

Speaking of nails and nail shops - Did anyone else catch Lisa's comment when she was with Leslie Blodgett? She imitated an Asian accent. It was really not a cool thing to do. "Ah, Miss Leesa. Where iz Miss Lezlee?" Totally an ass-faced comment, especially on television. She was referring to a time when they both went to the nail shop together.
