View Full Version : Hi, do you think HSN works their hosts less than QVC works their hosts? Which could explain why QVC hosts leave?

Hi, do you think QVC works their hosts more harder than does HSN? Maybe both shopping networks preparation routines for the hosts are the same because I saw Paul Deasy explain how people only see him on for a few hours a week but that they actually work more hours behind the scenes also. So I'm wondering if both QVC and HSN both work their hosts about the same.
But maybe QVC stresses their hosts out more which could explain why alot of the hosts leave and go to HSN such as Kathy Levine, Patti Reilly, Paul Deasy, Judy Crowell. What do you think?

Thanks.

First of all, Patti is at QVC, not HSN. Kathy is no longer a show host. She is the official vendor trainer for HSN, teaching and coaching people on how to sell their products on live television.

I totally agree with the 'stressed out' QVC hosts. A lot of that stress can be traced back to the new management. HSN has a laid back feel compared to QVC's hard sell approach. That is why I think Paul and Judy split for Florida and I say it was a good move.

As for host's schedules - They all work behind the scenes doing various things: learning about products and how to demonstrate them, meetings of all sorts and meet-and-greets for fans, just to name a few. Since the new management has been at QVC, the hosts only seem to work two hour shifts for the most part. Sure, there are the odd three or four hour shows (Gold Rush and Diamonique, for example) but you will see two hour shifts most often. HSN has certain hosts work three or four hours, usually at prime time or when a host will be launching a new Today's Special.

I'm sure money plays a role in a host's decision just as working conditions and perks would for anyone.

Puddy, I always thought they left for Fla. because Paul's children are there and so are Judy's parents.

Weather plays a factor sometimes. Compare January in West Chester, Pa. and in Tampa. You do the math. ---- "We're Nookie Bound" -Bill Murray (Meatballs)

Not to mention a better pay check, perhaps! Rumor on here has it that the hosts were asked to take a pay cut.

I'm sure there were several reasons that made Paul and Judy move but I still say the insanity at QVC is a huge motivating factor.

First of all HSN has almost 40 hosts , while QVC has only 25. Also the new management has all the hosts in a boot camp type of environment all the hosts are under a lot of pressure...

I am just surfing channels while reading this and it all just clicked.....LOL

IMO, majority of the HSN host are truly calmer, more mature and more professional than many on QVC.

For example, Colleen Lopez is on with the USA Gold Gentleman and it is all business, no yelling, screaming, talking over each other.

BR,I always enjoy watching Colleen and Michael Paolerzio (sp?). Even though I don't care for the religious gold USA Gold does, I enjoy watching all the presentations. It's a good product.

I enjoy watching the USA Gold shows too. It's very educational and informative. I have a few pieces and have been very happy with them.

It seems like the hosts would get sick of pushing the same junk year after year. Yammering on and on about the many ways & places to wear Denim & Co. leggings, how nonsticky are those non-stick pots, or the delightful Kake Kut'rs would drive me insane in no time.

Then again, they have Bobbi Ray Carter who is the total opposite of Colleen's calmness. I wanna push Bobbi's eyes back in their sockets. She and Shannon w/those blatant obvious salesman approaches. Sure, Marybeth claims to own everything, but it's better than those two. (Hmph, not sure why, but seems as though I am defending QVC, the channel that gave its customers limited SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMs for the holidays. Not sure why I am doing that!!)

Plutarca - That would be forty hosts divided over TWO networks. If you break it down, there is no real difference in the number of hosts - about 20 or so per network.

Hello Kitty, yes, the 40 hosts are basically divided over 2 networks, HSN and America's Store. Also, Shannon tries to use alot of cliche in her salesman ship ways and although she annoys the crap out of me sometimes, I really get a kick out of her because she is so entertaining and fun to watch, although she does have an attitude. But still, I love Shannon and watching her.
