For everyone in and around Cleveland. The Christmas Story House/Museum opens this weekend. It even has the "fragile" lamp in the window. It will be open every weekend from now until Christmas. They are having a fund raiser this weekend where you can eat with the stars of the movie. Everyone except "Ralphie". Turns out he is best friends with some big star and is producing his movies.

Oh, too bad I'm not around that area. I love that movie. What a great idea for a fund raiser!

Normally, I would share happenings in Cleveland on its very own thread. But this is "A Christmas Story"!!! We ALL love that movie! We love that is on a continuous loop on one of those damn cable channels at Christmas time.
Here is a little insight to my Thanksgiving dinner. As the night proceeds and the "menfolk" get loopier, they will start doing the "who is Mamma's little piggy" and do the snort snort and eat their mashed potatoes without the use of utensils. Not funny, yet? No one is younger than 40!

Hi everyone.....I'm usually posting on the Live! board but had to come over and join in when I saw the thread.
We love that movie...............and it's definitely on while I'm wrapping my gifts on Christmas Eve. I always have a few last minute gifts or some that I just completely forgot about. lol
Some of the moments I love are seeing Dad's face when Ralphie opens his 'Red Ryder' and another is when Santa 'lovingly' gives Ralphie a push down the slide.
HHIgirl.....are you going?

Its V, I love the part where a stream of profanity comes pouring out of Ralphie's mouth when he and his dad are changing the tire. The look on his dad's face is priceless!
Jenna, the 'Mommy's little piggy' routine is hysterical...yes, I'd like to see a bunch of over 40s doing that...classic.
I love Ralphie's bunny jammies...adorable.
Of course it's hilarious when the neighbors pack o' dogs comes in to ruin the roast beast, and absolutely horrifying when they have to eat Chinese..."Fa rah rah rah rah, rah rah rah rah".

I love that part of the movie, I tried doing that to my oldest son when he was younger, lets just say it didn't go over well. I think he failed to see the humor.

Hi Aussie...........Yes, the 'Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra' is hysterical along with Ralphie and his filthy mouth. There are so many good parts in that movie including lots of quotes.
How about Ralphie feeling the leg, errr, I mean lamp? lol

Yes, but remember, the crate the leg came in is "Fra-gee-lay"! My sis and I say it like that all the time.
Garnet, your son must have thought you were crazy! I laugh just thinking about it!

His friend getting his tongue frozen! Ouch!
I loved that movie the first time I saw it & still do.

I won't be able to make it this weekend. Hopefully one of the future ones I can catch it. I might swipe my sis's camera phone and post pics on the web.

"Ralphie, I can't get up! Waaahhhhhhh!" Mel, that part is hysterical, along with when poor Flick gets his tongue stuck to the flagpole after being 'double-dog dared'.
I've never seen this movie. I know they show it several times during the holidays each year. I've just never watched it. Sounds like I better rectify that this year!

The minute it is on, sit down! Turn off the cel, shut down the computer and have yourself a roaring good time. There is nothing funnier than a kid getting his tongue stuck on an icy flag pole! Brings back warm childhood memories of skating at Klode park and daring kids to do it. We did reward them with hot chocolate afterwards. (hey, there isn't that much to do in Milwaukee in the winter)

Hey did anyone happend to notice the advertisement on this post for "Red Rider Leg Lamps?" The lamps look exactly like the lamp from The Christmas Story.
I haven't seen this for a couple of years.
It's on so many times, you always figure you'll catch it the NEXT time & then before you know it.... Christmas is over & no more "Christmas Story!"
I think I'll buy the DVD too. This is definitely a great movie for a pick me up.... any time of the year!
Here's a little trivia for you:
The boy who played "Flick" (Flick?! The name doesn't ring a bell. lol).... Scotty Schwartz (sp?).... made a few great movies as a kid & after he grew into the gawky stage, the roles stopped coming. He ended up doing some work in the Adult Industry! Yikes!!!
I wonder if he got anything else stuck to a frozen flagpole? hehe

I think that's all automatic.
I would think it's Google software that scans the pages & inserts an AD that seems relevant to the discussion.

A bunch of bars near the house all have those leg lamps. There are two sizes and it is still funny.
My BIL is an amputee (boat accident-long story) and for years I wanted to take one of his "used" legs (he fixes them with duct tape) and make the lamp. This was before it started showing up everywhere.

My kids got me a lighted snow globe leg lamp off eBay a few years ago--now we set it up in a small window by our front door for the month of December. Hilarious! (Unless you happen not to have seen the movie, which my neighbor hadn't, and thought us to be quite odd until we lent her our copy last year!)

That is brilliant! Just an imagine if they made that leg lamp into one of those giant inflatables!

I loved Jean Shepard's narration. The scene where they're putting on the snowsuits, he described it as like they were going deep sea diving. The hillbilly neighbors and their 400 smelly dogs that bothered Darrin McGavin. It's still a classic; one year they played it on July 25th (Xmas In July) on one of the cable channels & I watched it and it was 90 degrees that day. --- "We're Nookie Bound" -Bill Murray (Meatballs)
