View Full Version : Boy, I am going to get bashed by QVC lovers

I have been a QVC customer for 16 years. I have for the most part been happy, with the exception of slower service and high shipping cost, especially when you order two or more of the same item.
I have lately, been using Shop NBC and find that the quality is better. They are a bit pricer, but expect that with the quality they offer. They also give you the grade on diamonds that you buy, rather small or big. And during this holiday shopping season, I got a great buy on gifts with their sale prices and absolutely free shipping. Whether they hide the cost in the price of the item or it truely is free shipping, I like it, as I feel I am not being gouged. And they do put items on sale, much like dept. stores.
I wish the Q would follow suit.
I really like the fast shipping and quality service at Shop NBC.
Sorry Q lovers.

Why would you think you were going to be bashed? If I like an item and the price I would purchase it also. I agree with you on QVC's shipping it's ridiculous!

Why I oughta ... WHERES MY BAT! ;-)
Sueshe ... you shouldn't fear any of us bashing you for taking a step away from the Q! I'm pretty sure we all shop around, and I've read many times here people complaining about the same things you just mentioned!
Shop your heart out ... WHEREVER you deem necessary!!! :-)

Sueshe,
I've posted before about ShopNbc, I think that the jewelry, overall, is far superior to the Q's or HSN. You do pay more, but of course, you get what you pay for.
Even Shop at Home offers a better selection of gemstones. Think QVC is okay for gold and silver, though.

Lindalou, you are right about the jewelry at ShopNBC ... much better quality, large stones, exotic gems, etc. IMO however, you do overpay a bit. You can get the same type jewelry on Jewelry television for less money. Of course we should always avoid anything in 10k gold, cuz they never put the greatest quality stones in this metal.
If you like the $150 price point, QVC is your place to go. However if you do like the higher quality and can afford to pay a bit more (you do get what you pay for) ... ShopNBC and Jewelry television are excellent resources! For those that do not know about Jewelry television, they sell loose gemstones and jewelry in all price levels ... $29.99 to $35,000.00 and beyond ... :-)

sueshe, I agree with the better quality (of some items) and the shipping at ShopNBC. I just ordered a stainless steel Signity bracelet last week with the free shipping and guaranteed delivery. I've already received it. That's nice work in my book.
Bee, did you happen to see the mombo $16,000+ tanzanite on Jewelry Television this morning? Wowzer it was a beauty and big, too!

I have been very pleased with my ShopNBC purchases. But I have to say that I cannot stand Charlene or whatever her name is. She is absolultely the worst host on TV. As soon as she comes on I change the channel.
I believe that this is the channel that Donald Trump wants to buy.

Bee,
Yep, I am a big fan of Jewelry Television, formerly known as ACN. I got a beautiful pink tourmaline ring in 14k, for all of $99!! I have seen alot of things end up there, that I have previously seen sell at ShopNBC and Shop at Home.
Pebbles, think you're referring to Charla. Sorry, but she appeals to my goofy sense of humor, 'cause she's over-the-top. Even I can only take her in small doses, however. I tend to gravitate toward people and things that are away from the beaten path;) Did anyone see the new Titanium and CZ line ShopNBC is carrying? Watched it last nite, and I don't know....looked kinda cheesy, surprised they are offering it. Of course the vendor is married to resident jewelry designer, Dallas Prince, so it pays to have connections.

pebbles, is she the one with the short hair and glasses? If so, I know what you mean. I don't watch ShopNBC all that much, but when I do turn it on and she's on, I cringe. I can't help it--I'm almost embarassed for her. She just seems really kooky, really out there. Maybe that's what appeals to people. I'll have to pay more attention if I catch her on again.

I didn't see the ring this morning, but I have seen a few doozies in the past! I am lucky enough to have bought one about a year ago ... LOVE it! I was in a ritzy jewelry store here in Denver (Hyde Park) a few weeks ago and had one of their jewelers grab my hand and flip down his little loop cap ... he offered me money on the spot for my ring (almost triple what I paid for it). I of course said no way Jose!
I have my good and bad days with Charly. I tend to flip the channel if she is hosting anyting other than a jewelry show. Sometimes she cracks me up, other times she really bugs me. She is still better than Jane Tracey! BLECK!
Lindalou, I too have seen many items from the other shopping channels (including QVC) on Jewelry television. I actually bought a pair of 14k white gold and 1/2 carat of diamond earrings for $99, while the EXACT same pair of Affinity earrings sold for $199 at the Q.
It pays to shop around!!!
Has anybody ever bought jewelry from the on-line retailers? Overstock.com, Smartbargains.com., etc? I've looked around and seen some great deals but have yet to order jewelry from them.

Yep, AussieMrs., that's her. I think her name is Charla or Sharla. The worst is when she gets up and sashays around to model handbags or leather jackets. I have heard callers complain about her, but she must have a following. I think they even named her segment The Charla Hour. I just don't get it, I guess. I won't watch her.

Charla is a real character. She can be grating but she obviously loves what she is doing and always seems very knowledgeable about the products she is presenting. Given that QVC has gone more and more to "Barbie and Ken Shopping" she is a refreshing change.

RebelMom,
That's what I'm trying to say. Apparently she doesn't have many fans here, and as I acknowledged before, she's best in small doses, but if you think about how many hosts are so "cookie-cutter" in their presentations, she really is a welcome, albeit, a little bizarre change. Can't you just see someone like her doing a Joan Rivers show? Now THAT would be funny.

LindaLou, we are definitely on the same page about Charla. Small doses sometimes are all I can take but I have never doubted her basic honesty - what you see is what you get!

she scares me.. a lot.. but i have to agree about the honesty. It's nice to see someone for who they are, not what everyone wants to see. i'm still scared by the screaming, make it stop!!! so theres my two cents ;)

I don't get ShopNBC or Jewelry TV. Waaa! Maybe that is a good thing, but I am going to find out why not anyway.
sueshe ~ Post whatever you like. If you find a place with better deals or selling better items, rather than getting bashed I believe you'll find a bunch of us following you there! LA

I just bought a 14kt white gold heart shaped diamond ring (2 carats, pave set) from shopnbc. I ordered it on Saturday and it arrived by FedEx last night (Tuesday). It was item # J 7001 but they already took it down because it sold out. It was $799 (tax AND sh included!) and I think I got a beautiful ring. I've spent more than that over the years in increments of $33, $50, $105, etc., over the years at QVC. I decided to treat myself this year to something substantial and I needed a "picker-upper". LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the ring!

Bichonlady,
Ooooo, that heart ring sounds gorgeous!! Love heart shapes!!
Not too crazy about pave, but you got a great deal for 2 carats worth!!
Can I borrow sometime, if I promise to return it?? ;)

Bichonlady ... your ring sounds FABulous! Glad you love it! I'm all for the little "pick me up" gifts!
I'm also one who avoids the smaller pieces ... and save for the BIG higher dollar pieces ... less frequently, but IMO quality is better than quantity!

I forgot to mention that I have a rather large hand and this ring "fills" it up nicely. I agree that I would have LOVED a 2 carat solitaire as opposed to pave, but that's WAAAAAY out of my price range. Thanks!
