Sometimes, but I'm guilty of it myself at times.

Yessss. She seems to put on a prissy demeanor. Oh, well, they're all just salespeople.

Extremely with her sweetheart and honey and all that sugar coating. Too sweet for me. I don't like when someone that is younger then me calls me sweetie. I think it shows lack of respect.

I grew up in the south and I've heard those sappy terms all my life. I agree with you Ladyshare, I don't care for it either. I find it a little generic for my taste.

BR,
Blasphemy, I tell 'ya!! ;)

Lisa R. is my favorite, and I have to say, that I'm guilty of the same thing....I tend to call people dear, or sweetie, but not if they're older than me. Just a nice, pleasant Ma'am will do. I on the other hand,I HATE being called Ma'am, but that's a whole nother story.

I may be in the minority, but she really does seem like the genuine article, and in a world where some people can be pretty cold, I really appreciate her. I don't find her particularly in-your-face, like oh, let's say JRT.

Lisa is a southern girl and that is the way those women are raised. I do believe what you see is what you get, she has never struck me as someone who puts on a special face for the cameras. Now as to JRT, the arrogant elf, there is just so much I could say about her but won't in the spirit of the holiday...besides doesn't she need to be wearing her elf suit, helping Santa and making sure Christmas goes well for everyone? LOL...

I think Lisa Mason is genuine. My mother-in-law is a sweet southern lady and is always sweet and sassy like that.
I think some women are just born that way, just like some of us are born bitchy and sarcastic!
There was a receptionist at a salon I worked in that called everyone "hon" and some of the women would get mad if she called their husband "hon". Give me a break!

RebelMom,
Yes, of course she does.

Is it me, or does it seem she gets her roles mixed up, being that she's so busy helping Santa and all, and sometimes forgets to take off her pointed shoes when she's hosting at the Q?? ;)

Too bad the ears don't come off.

I talk to southerners @ my job and they pretty much all fit the "stereotype" of very polite and sweetie, honey, sugar, darlin', etc. I think it's cool. :)

its almost like how people from different parts of the country fight over whether it's a sub/grinder/hoagie, soda/pop/coke sorta thing ;) you cant ever win, so just accept thats just the way they were brought up, and no matter how annoying it may be, its just the way it is! i just thought of something. a woman i work with calls EVERYBODY sweetie. i just dont like her because she betrayed my trust (me being a naive kid telling everyone my business, let me tell you i'm learning my lesson.) it drives me crazy, but now that i think of it, she originally came from the south. as much of a bitch as she may be, THAT one miniscule thing may not be her fault. wow, what a revolution. :P

I know women who call other women hon or sweetie because they can't remember names, LOL.

I agree with the "sweetness" being a Southern thing.

Read an article once in the Wall Street Journal talking about this very thing. The article then said that even when Southern women are saying mean or catty things about another woman, they qualify the criticism because they were raised to be nice. "She is just a two-faced b****, bless her heart." As long as you put the "bless her heart" at the end, it's OK and you are not really being mean.

Yep it's a southern thing. I have some relatives in Mississippi and when I was a kid I thought the darlin', hon, sweety pie stuff all the time was kind of weird but now I think it's really quite charming.

Even though she seems over the top sometimes, to me it all comes across as genuine. It really seems that she really is that way. I just adore her, so maybe my opinion is totally biased.

sugar_rae, you're too cute! I believe you graduated :)

Rebel Mom, I love your turn of phrase here with "JRT, the arrogant elf" !! That is the PERFECT description for her !!

About Lisa Mason ~~~ I remember something that she said in the 1990s on a show, about her husband. She saw him for the very first time when she went somewhere for a haircut, and he was then a hairdresser there. She was asked who she wanted to cut her hair. She looked around, spotted the man who would become her husband, and said, "I'll take HIM". And, she did indeed, and apparently is living happily ever after. NEVER underestimate a Southern Woman, Ever !! Lisa M is a true Steel Magnolia. Kathy Levine once commented on how Lisa M always comes to work with a smile on her face, when somehow the conversation had gone to Lisa's hubby. What a Fortunate Woman, and what a great way to start each day .....
