Hi everyone ~
I stopped by my parent's house today on the way home from work. My mother had made homemade chicken soup, bread (in the oven-the old fashioned way) and chocolate chip cookies. It brought me back to when I was growing up and everything was made from scratch.
Anyone else have fond memories of mom's cooking?

Oh hi missitaly, this thread is making my tummy grumble! :) There is nothing like mom's home cooking - no matter what it is, seems they just put that special something in it!
I will always remember when I was very young and had appendicitis - I had to be in the hospital for a few days...my mom would bring me an old familiy dish which is really rice and chicken w/peppers and potatoes...nothing made the hospital nicer than mom's cooking! :)
When I was little my grandmother would stay at our house for about 3 weeks in the summer.
She would make some yummy dishes like chili, veal scallopini, hobo stew, peach pudding, cream cheese and olives...........It was always so much fun!!

Oh, my mom can also make a really good cheesecake! yummy! Even though the top would crack everytime, it was still good. Happened so often that eventually that became its trait!

Mmmmmm, I'm getting a rumbly in my tumbly as well! My mom used to make great cheesecakes, but not so anymore. :-(
She still makes the best Beef Stroganoff in the world, though. If I was on death row, her stroganoff would be what I wanted for my last meal.

Ooh, my Mom made the best meals! Rotisserie chicken with herb basting sauce, homemade noodles cooked in chicken broth. You can't beat it! That was always my birthday dinner (and I requested homemade apple pie instead of cake!).

Oh, my goodness, my mom was a fabulous cook and baker. She was even on local TV once demonstrating how to make apple strudel. Her pastries were incredible. She made it all look easy, but I have not been able to duplicate her wonderful recipes.

My mom was a good cook, too. Very basic, healthy and traditional meals. Some had recipes, some I just had to cook with her enough times to get it. I loved to cook for years so added to her base and taught my daughters quite a bit. Both were just home from school for two weeks and one or both made dinner almost every night. It was very comforting to eat meals my mom used to make, prepared by my girls. Also cool that my family favorites are now theirs and such a treat that we got to eat them without me cooking. It truly can be such simple things that keep a family close. LA
I love my mom's cooking except for lutefisk... but I don't think anyone could make that stuff taste good. Thankfully, it is only served on holidays.
I swear I could eat my mom's potato salad every day and not get sick of it.

It's funny, but in our family, my mom's cooking is kind of an inside joke. She thinks she can cook, but she makes such weird stuff, no one will eat it but her and her husband, who is so old his tastebuds must be gone!
Once, when we went to visit, she had made a soup with lentils, zucchini and ground beef-GROSS! We just said we weren't hungry and went shopping and ate out.
We were anorexic as kids and didn't know it, we just hated to eat at home. School lunches were a gourmet treat!
The first thing we did after leaving home was buy real groceries and set up a good pantry. It was fantastic!

I don't have any memories of my mom's cooking as kids...us kids lived with my dad after my parents divorce and my dad was always the cook in our house anyway. He fixed homemade chili beans, stuffed peppers, pot roast, biscuits and gravy, homemade vegetable soup, homemade salsa, and the best turkey and dressing w/cranberries ever. Alot of that stuff I won't eat anymore because I'm semi vegetarian.
Today my mom has some dishes that I really love. Her potato salad is really good..she does a great crab salad dip..her candy is to die for, as is her chocolate cake, cheesecake and peanut butter pie. She even makes mints for people for weddings, showers, etc. I apparently got no baking/candy making talent from her or anybody else. I'm totally inept.

My Mom makes the best fried chicken and vegetable soup I have ever had. My Dad made the best chicken or seafood etouffee and homemade sausages, like andouille.

:-( Cooking or baking was never my Mom's thing. She tried (bless her heart) ... needless to say, we ate out A LOT!
My husbands Mother is an amazing cook! We ate like kings and queens over the Holidays during our visit!

lol ... I sure do hellokitty! There was (for instance) the Thanksgiving where she did a turkey, and I think it may have been delicious ... had she not dropped it on the floor while pulling it out of the oven. She then threw it in the garbage in disgust. She cried for hours. My Dad probably didn't help ... he started laughing, which made me start to laugh ... my poor Mom was traumatized for years! lol ...
