Awesome! Jewelry Television Hosts have arrived!

Finally! A place to post about those Jewelry/Gemstone show hosts and their wares! I for one felt that the QVC & HSN boards just didn't cut it for the whole jewel-gem thing because they're totally separate worlds. I never felt like posting about JTV there because for one thing, no one else hardly ever does, and it felt out of place.
SO WHO ELSE BESIDES ME LOVES GEMSTONES???!!!! How about the whole jewelry/gemstone network scene? Like JTV, Gem Shopping Network (good 'ol Marvin), Direct Shopping Network (Dish 221 11:00pm - 5:00am EST M-Sat) and any of the other assorted shows/hosts? My personal fav is gemstone show host Cheryl Ells on JTV. Or for a good dose of "that's incredible" there's Jennifer. Maybe you're all about the eye candy. That would be Mandy Bradshaw. Feeling hyper? Scott Parker is right up your alley! And the loose gemstones! Who can look at that pile of jewels on the turntable and not want to hold them in your hand? I sure can't.

I have that channel blocked from my favorites so I don't ever see it any more. I always thought it was cheesy presentation and the women's nails were always chipped. It seemed like it was broadcast from someone's basement.

Well have you watched lately? They really have made some solid improvements with graphics, set design, scheduling, adding an 800 number (finally), to name a few. To each his own. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally have never seen a host with chipped nails and I would notice something like that. Sounds like you haven't watched in a LONG time...

I watch JTV all the time and could go on and on about the hosts ... lol ... and I just might! :-)

My fave is also Cheryl ... it's obvious that she loves to teach the viewer about gemstones, as well as what is going on in the industry. I love the way she and Dawn carry on ... and that she wears her own jewelry on camera (typically her tanzie ring).

The prettiest are obviously Jennifer and Casey. Mandy is alright too, although the way she always repeats everything she says bugs me. The most handsome is Jerry.

The most annoying (to me) are: Scott (so right about him being hyper), Wendy, Tamara and Misty. Wendy's monotone voice will make me change the channel. I actually can't stand Misty ... her nails are typically hideous, and if she says "first come first server" one more time I think I'll scream! AAAHHH! She needs a total make-over ... her hair is too big and streaky, her tan is too orange, her clothes are too tight, her nails are gross ... bleck bleck bleck!

The one I hate the most (and I really don't like to use the word hate), is Sharon. Now I'm all for being a girly girl, so that's not what bothers me about her ... I actually think she is gorgeous and love her style. However, she flat out lies to the viewer about what things would cost out in retail ... to the point of being ridiculous. She also says "this is my favorite" or "if there are any more when my shift is done I'm gonna get this" about almost every item.

Angela is a bit annoying too, but for the most part I like her. I liked it when she had the hair extensions last year!

Robert and Tommy are fun too, especially Robert. He has a funny sense of humor, kind of like Rick D. on QVC ... a bit sarcastic and in your face. Am I alone in thinking that Tommy has one glass eye?!?

Tamara needs medication ... the woman just won't stop rambling on and on ... and half the time, it's about anything BUT Jewelry!

Nicky is a cutie pie, as are Dawn and Angie.

Heather was one of my faves, and I'm sad that she is gone. She is still listed as a host on the web-site, but I tried e-mailing her and I received a reply saying she is no longer with the company.

Oh wow! FINALLY someone to dish about these guys with!!! I wonder what happened to Tommy's eye??? It's obviously a glass eye... it's funny because I didn't notice it right away, I've been watching JTV since 2003 and I guess I never looked and one day I was like "eww what's wrong"? Now it's hard NOT to look. He's one of my favorites too, and Robert! Do you have Dish or DirectTV? I used to & can't afford it right now :( I ask because at least where I live (Michigan) we only get JTV from 10:30 pm to 9:30 am. It's a good thing I'm a night owl! I miss Dawn big time! She never does any late nights. Girl, you are ON THE MONEY about everyone! Mandy drives me CRAZY with not only repeating every single thing she says, when she's with Tommy SHE INTERUPTS HIM NONSTOP AAARRGGHHH! If I were him I'd kick her under the table or pinch her thigh to make her stop! Ugh Orange Lady. I HATE that first come first served crap, and the COUNTDOWN of every single item sold <tears out hair> and lets not forget Jennifer.. you know, the one who's absolutely incredible. Just Incredible. Incredible. Once I swear I counted for 15 minutes how many times she would say it. 11! she said incredible 11 times in 15 minutes. I actually called the station & said "can you please make Jennifer stop saying incredible"? She didn't stop. I e-mailed HER & gave her a list of alternative words! LOL! I also can't stand Wendy's monotone & the way it looks like she just got up off the couch to come in & work. I agree on everyone but I do like Scott, although he will absolutely die on one gemstone... Cheryl would have gone through 8 to his one... but ya gotta love his love for gems, and he sure can push that excitement envelope! LOL Tamara needs medication!! She's gotta look into decaf, big time! Do you watch Gemshopping Network? Marvin & Galadriel & Frank & Steve? Or (I miss my Dish!!!) Direct Shopping with Blue Sheppard and Art Garabenien? Or how about Jeff Smith from Jewelry Vault... he's the sad sack who always begs for people to buy his jewelry? I can't get any of these other channels without my Dish and I miss them alot. The one I miss the most is Asian Collectibles on Gem Shopping, overnights on the weekends. GREAT GEMSTONES! sigh. I like Nicky too! Did you see when she got flowers on Valentines Day? She really is a Cutie Pie! Which one is Sharon again? I usually watch gemstones, tho I've been watching Jewelry depending on who's hosting. I can't take Wendy either, Angela's OK but she can be annoying, I like Jerry too! and Robert & Casey are great... is Sharon the totally fake blonde who used to do girlfriend Friday? I don't know if they still do it cuz I don't get JTV 'till night time. I suppose I could check it out online but I'm stuck with dial up... ssssllllllllooooooooowwwwwww.

I don't have satellite, just regular digital cable. I don't get any of those other channels you mentioned, just JTV, which is on all day, except for intermittent 1/2 hours when they will play infomercials or a local church show.

Yes Heather was cross eyed, but adorable. I loved her red carpet shows with the guy from New York ... can't remember his name. Now Nicki does the red carpet shows.

It was funny, Santino left the stage first, thinking he had won the challenge. After Daniel left the stage they showed Santino telling Daniel the HE (santino) had won the challenge, but Daniel said ... no I did! :-) lol ...

Just last week, I received a call from JTV, asking me to do a survey. They asked me tons of questions, me having to rate each one on a scale from 1 to 10, one being low, etc. The guy asked everything from what other channels do I buy from, do I like the hosts, do I think they tell the truth, etc. It was kinda fun ... I really let them have it when they asked if I thought the hosts were truthful. I said flat out that Sharon lies about retail prices ... she is off her rocker.

You're so lucky that you can watch whenever you want! It's probably good that I can only get it at night or I'd never get anything done.
Do you mean the Ken-Doll blonde guy that they had on for a while who did the Red Carpet show? Remember him? I remember when he was in "training" and he was on with Dawn and she was SO COLD to him it was actually funny. He'd get all flustered and she'd roll her eyes! What a hoot!
Wow cool about the survey! I'm glad you told them about Sharon. Do you think they'll listen? I've found that they're very receptive about things that you write them about, like I wrote once and asked them if they'd update their "meet the hosts" section on the website because it was terribly out of date and lo and behold not a month later it was updated! I like that about JTV. I'm watching right now (Friday AM 8:40 Scott & Jennifer) and they have an awesome Tanzanite turntable & some kick butt loose tanzies on now... <wipes drool off keyboard> WOW where the heck did they GET these? They're AMAZING!!! When I die I want to be buried in a jewelry box full of Tanzanites!

I was SOOO tempted last night ... Cheryl was doing tanzanite, and I literally called 3 times to buy, and then chickened out at the last minute. She had gorgeous stones of all sizes, but mostly the larger in the good color. I really really don't need anymore ... I couldn't justify it. :-(

Wow! You guys really love this JTV! I remember on the QVC board, posters were raving about it, and I searched frantically for it on my cable system. I never found it! :( However, I think they may show a few hour blocks in the wee hours of the morning, because I remember a random channel selling gems/jewels and they kept lowering the price, etc, just as described on the board awhile back.

Sounds like so much fun, all the chit chat about JTV. Hopefully one day I will get familiar w/it enough to talk about it!

Oh yeah! We love it alright! Don't be surprised if your area only airs the show really late at night or for just a short time... I only can get it from 10:30 at night until 9:30 in the morning.
Did anyone else see last night's (Sunday) gemstone show with Tommy & Casey? Holy cow, Casey had the most "off" show EVER. Everytime she went to talk Tommy cut her off, she said the wrong things over and over, mistakes up the ying yang. You know how when they switch from show to show they put the coming & the going hosts on a split screen and they gab for a few minutes? Well Nikki was going off & Tommy & Casey were coming on, and Nikki was sweet as usual and all excited about the fact that there was gonna be free shipping, and Casey was a B**** and a half to her! She was downright rude! Now I don't like Casey. Never a dull moment! After their show came "First Come First Served..." or better known as Angela. I watched her closely and she DOES fudge on retail prices, doesn't she? Hmmm I never noticed before. She actually contradicted herself a few times. I hope Cheryl is on tonight!!!

I'm almost to the point in saying that they all flat out lie about retail prices. I mean really ... a 10k gold bracelet with 5 carats of Iolite ... $1200? REALLY!? Where?!? First ... it would be hard to find, but once you did I hardly think it would be anywhere near $1000. The only items I think they are ever right about are the red carpet pieces.

Was watching shop at home last night, and they were doing gem stones. Their prices were beating JTV's ... I tried twice to buy a tanzanite, but they sold out before I got thru ... DANG!

When they were doing the chit chat thing between shows Nikki was being really nice and Casey just stared at her, bitch-like and then Nikki got uncomfortable and they were all quiet <sound of crickets> and then Nikki, trouper that she is, tried being upbeat and nice and Casey just stared her down, never smiled and even rolled her eyes. It set the tone for the whole show...TENSION CITY. I wonder what's up between them? You know who else clashes on those little intervals between shows? Scott and Orange Lady (what's her name? I can't think of it) BIG TIME. It's weird. You should check out the way some of them are... makes you wonder

Tah-Dah! Love that we have this BB now! Love the gems! Favorites being Tanzanite, emeralds, Pink Tourmaline, and, of course, Diamonds.

Get a little dizzy watching the jewelry spin around on the turntables, but overall, their stuff is pretty great, and especially when you consider that the very same items from Shop NBC and even the Q sometimes end up there, and at a much lesser cost!

Love Nikki! She's such a sweet lady! There's a new one on there, can't think of her name to save my life, but, she looks like she's really short, and she annoys the heck outta me! She's usually on with Nikki.

I hated her at first too, but I've warmed up to her. She is a total girly girl, and still learning ... so I try to cut her some slack! lol ...

I think they must either buy low quantities from HSN and QVC, cuz I have seen many of the same items there. I actually bought my Mother a pair of diamond earrings from JTV, 14k gold - 1/2 carat - $99. The exact pair at QVC were $199. It really does pay to shop around!!!

Hey I found Shop At Home! They had the guy with the Italian? accent selling jewelry and I couldn't believe how much more their stuff was compared to JTV! Their Tanzanite (SAH) was a lot lighter too. Blecch.
I really like Janine! I guess I've never seen her have a ditzy show yet, but she's sweet and so far hasn't developed the maddening "quirk" like so many others have.... like Jennifer saying "INCREDIBLE" ad nauseum, or Mandy repeating entire paragraphs verbatim in rapid fire auctioneer-speak and the always good for a cringe "FIRST COME FIRST SERVED...WHILE THEY LAST!!!" Oh and I watched Casey the next night after her bad show and she was back to being her usual unannoying self so I take back what I said about her! I was too quick to judge. I'm Taking your advice and cutting her some slack!

I do know that the Michael Alexander gold watches they sell on JTV is the same company as USA Gold on HSN.

I MISS DAWN AND CHERYL TOGETHER!!! I loved when they'd talk about Simon or Cheryl's dogs! Do you remember last year on Dawn's birthday, she was doing a gem show alone and Cheryl surprised her with a cake, flowers and a present? It was so funny cuz Cheryl was wearing sweats, no makeup, and Dawn made her come on air! I guess that answers the question of whether they're friends outside of work, huh???
When Simon was a baby, Dawn was saying one day how she was having trouble with him always kicking off his blankets in the middle of the night. She said that they'd tried everything but nothing worked & he would inevitably be "blanket-less" in the morning. She said if any of us viewers had any suggestions, to call and let her know what to do. I called and suggested sewing a pair of his PJ's to a blankey (You have to lay the PJ's on top of the blanket, cut it out and sew it together) so he couldn't kick it off... he'd be wearing it! I don't know how it all turned out, she didn't say, but I guess now that I think of it, she was probably way too busy to sew! I personally hate sewing, but it was the only solution I could think of.

Mandy's showing Pearls right now... boy she sure works herself up over them, doesn't she??? She's getting HUGE! I wonder how much longer until she lets the cat out of the bag, so to speak lol that sounded bad... I mean telling everyone (viewer-wise) that she's expecting? As if we couldn't tell :-/

I did see that on air birthday surprise ... Cheryl was funny! Did you see her with the puppy ... about 2 weeks ago?!? TOO CUTE!

Mandy does get worked up ... especially over pearls and champagne diamonds. I like that about her ... she has passion, unlike another host whom I won't name. OK, I'll name her ... MISTY!

Did you see Misty and Nikki hosting the other night ... it wasn't the same as in the past. Misty is off ... and I swear she's pregnant too!

The blonde Ken Doll went to Gem Shopping, but only for about a New York minute. I saw him sit in with Marvin on one show and that was it. Can't think of his name.

Pattara got her gemologist cert. so she is probably gone to where someone will pay the big bucks for that. That Christmas tape was a repeat from when she was still at the network. She was far more honest than Dawn, Cheryl, or Scott on saying the quality of the stones. Her Mom was Kim, an older lady that did the Red Carpet expensive jewelry for years. She retired a couple of years ago. I liked her, she told the truth on everything she showed.

Agree, agree, agree on the out and out lies the hosts say on retail value. I'm amazed, sometimes, that they don't get shut down for false advertising. People that are uninformed and only buying on the sales pitch are really getting taken!

Scott and Wendy are both total gasbags! I won't have the channel on if they are hosting. And Wendy's sister? I think her name is Holly. She's married to one of the top execs and was the WORST for flat out lying about retail value, JTV price and then the fabulous mark-down that SHE was authorizing . . . . but ONLY for the next two minutes. Thank heavens they took her off the air! Insufferable!

What would you guys and gals like to see? We weren't really sure if anyone actually watched it.. hehehe.. It would be interesting to see what "works" and what you thought was total crap ;)

I watched one full round of the taped programming ... then changed the channel. I enjoy the hosts cooking segments ... and the fond memories but they need to limit the time they talk ... Nikki went on forever and ever ...

I'd also like to see more "behind the scenes" stuff.

Do you think Buddy will bring his designs again? He had some great diamonds, didn't he? Frank has some pretty fabulous stuff too! Hope he stays on for a good long time.

About that Christmas interlude. The cooking segments were pretty silly. Stirring, and measuring and you could see the pot or whatever was sitting on a cold burner! LOL
The music was good. Really great singing voices.

So Patera's still there... that's great that she got her cert! Why did she leave as a show host? I don't know why she got on my nerves the way she did... maybe I'd think differently now. For a very long time I never watched anything but gemstone shows, so I wasn't hip to the "Misty - Angela - Wendy" nerve-fest like I am now. She's probably a walk in the park compared to them.

FINALLY! Someone who watches Gem Shopping! OK, what do you think of Marvin??? Sometimes he sounds like he's trying to "Be Frank", (the starter of GSN), doesn't it? And I wish he wouldn't try to whistle because he can't! Do you remember when Gary used to host with Marvin? The guy was CRAZY! Fun isn't the word! "Gotta MOVE Gotta GO" Or when he would sing? Too cool! I wonder where he is??? Now they have this Kurt guy, who's OK but definately not Gary by any means. I like Galadriel too but only in short doses! I'm with Bee about the Christmas show... I'd really like to see more behind the scenes stuff, and longer segments like "Jerry's Gems".

I am a complete fool for Gemshopping Network. The entire inventory is my wishlist.

I get about a dozen highly distracting electronic retailers on DirectTV. The last I saw of Gary, he was in Los Angeles doing shows on the Ultimate Shopping Network. No where near the caliber of GSN; and not much entertainment factor, either. :^( They do pretty much the same turntable routine as JTV but a much smaller selection and endlessly repeating the same items over and over.

Marvin is definitely a mini-me to Frank! (At first I thought they were related. LOL )
I like his style; LOVE Galadriel, her enthusiasm and style.

Steve . . . . insufferable . . . "Give me your price range, or I won't show it."
???????Excuse me??????? He brags about working in "high end" retail. HA! I wish he had stayed there!

Wish I had seen him back in his hey day! I guess imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and Frank must be TOTALLY FLATTERED judging by Marvin! I love watching him though, big time! I watch on the computer all the time... no dish :-(
I LOVE David and Max! Those closeouts kill me! I could watch Asian Collectibles 24/7! David is a little bit low key but as honest as the driven snow. If a stone has an inclusion he not only says so but will also zoom in and show it to you! I can't tell you how much I've learned from just his show alone!

Hey all. Loved reading your comments about JTV and the hosts there. A lot of it was very amusing. I also think Misty is very annoying and needs a style makeover. Mandy is too hyper. As I said before, I think it's great that Patera got her GIA Cert and never thought anything bad about her personally... I simply said that her on air persona annoyed me. Hello Everyone. I am new to this thread. I actually just stumbled upon it. It's been fun reading all your comments. Actually, oddly enough I went to college with Heather Norman, one of the hosts on JTV. She is not at all cross eyed. Are you sure you guys are talking about the same girl? I can also tell you that she was a very nice girl. Always friendly. We weren't friends, but we had several classes together. I couldn't believe when I stumbled upon JTV and saw her hosting on it. I don't think she is there anymore. I haven't seen her and she's not listed on the web site anymore. I wonder where she went? I would love to get in touch with her. Thanks for letting me post. I heard JTV treat their show hosts badly and threaten them if they try leaving....they can't go to another home shopping network for 1 year after they leave JTV. They have a choice put up or shut up! All the hosts are great and do an excellent job! Well at least most of them are! lol... I think Heather had enough and resigned...hope she is doing well...hey also just an FYI don't buy the gem parcels....out of the entire parcel you may find 3 stones that are not damaged. I learnt this when I bought a parcel and was very upset with what I got...Yes sir I sent it back!

No one is threatened at JTV in any way.
Im sure that the show hosts are required to sign a "non-compete" clause as part of their contracts. This is an industry standard. It is to protect a company from a rogue employee who could go to a competitor and start working in a way that could do harm to the commerce of the first company.
Once again it is standard in the industry.
I also dont know of a single sales job....whether it is selling shoes on up to selling homes.....that doesnt require you to "put up or shut up".
In other words.....produce.....or move on.
What company worth its salt would keep a salesman with poor sales?
If your salary and benefits begin to cost the company more than you are bringing in.....they will let you go......period.

Beekeeper - I can't speak for those that may or may not work at JTV. I agree that the smoking thing is extremely trivial, and would not keep me from liking one of the hosts ... but it's just one of those stupid things that if they (the host) is ashamed of doing, they shouldn't do it knowing it could end up as public information. I can't work so JTV is pretty much on alot! Way back a couple people asked about the blonde guy who came on right before Jerry and Janine. His name was Ryan. It sounds like you ordered the same pearls I did awhile back, except mine had a sterling silver clasp, whereas I can tell by the price you mentioned yours are the gold version. I got the pink and the red. The pink are very nice, but the red were kind of mismatched and banded. If your pink are anything like mine, I'm sure you will love them.

How long did it take to get your Gemology Cert? I want to go to school so bad but there's no extra anything it seems like these days to pay for schooling. I have to settle on being a "wannabe", reading all I can and studying that way, but of course it's not the same. Congratulations on graduating with Top Honors!!!
I hope you aren't too pissed at me for the things I said and if anything good could come out of it all, the one thing is that I've learned a valuable lesson about shooting my mouth off without regards to how it may affect someone and their feelings. That was just not cool of me to do and I don't know what I was thinking...

What's a "Diva Ring" and is there any way to see one now? It sounds spectacular! Did you design it?
I watch Gemshopping Network (have never ordered from there, just window shop!) and have seen the "Frank Ring" but never the "Diva" from JTV :-P Almost all of my gemstone purchases have been from JTV (a LOT) except for a pair of "Roval" Starlight Blue's, a Swiss Blue "Phantasm" cut and a Pakistani Peridot in the "Phantasm II" designed by (the late *sniff*) Rex Bernard from Direct Shopping Network (I just found out recently that GSN and DSN are actually in the same building, that their studios are right next door to each other. Weird, huh?) Other than that it's been JTV all the way. Wish I'd known about you's sooner! I, like most folks, thought gemstones were only for the "Rich And Famous" until I saw JTV, ACNtv back then. I can't get enough, now!

I used to have Dish Network and was in 7th Heaven over all the shopping networks! I wish I could remember the network but it was always just this one guy, Jeff Smith (I think) and he sold jewelry. He was a hoot to watch because he'd get pissed if no one called in on a piece... he'd get pissed, and then he'd BEG. I really liked watching him he was hilarious! Nice wares, too!

When they were doing the chit chat thing between shows Nikki was being really nice and Casey just stared at her, bitch-like and then Nikki got uncomfortable and they were all quiet <sound of crickets> and then Nikki, trouper that she is, tried being upbeat and nice and Casey just stared her down, never smiled and even rolled her eyes. It set the tone for the whole show...TENSION CITY. I wonder what's up between them? You know who else clashes on those little intervals between shows? Scott and Orange Lady (what's her name? I can't think of it) BIG TIME. It's weird. You should check out the way some of them are... makes you wonder

Re: hosts going from channel to channel--Gary I first saw on USN and now is on AVC--Steve Parker also on USN I saw on another channel out of Los Angeles with Jeremy Hall (previously on DSN)--Rob Lovell(?), USN, went to GSN for a brief time, and now is on AVC. Yeah, I think we need a scorecard to keep up with all the comings and goings!
