View Full Version : More Show Host "Quirks"!

mystylady
02-22-2006, 12:00 PM
These aren't necessarily bad, just "quirky"...

ROBERT: "DIE-a-mund" (diamond)
TOMMY: "ZEEEEE-row" (zero) pronounced just like that for every zero in the item number, even if there's 6 of them!
ROBERT: "ConGRASS-u-LOW-nees" (congradulations)
ROBERT: "And the item number IS" (love that one!)
MANDY : "Know what lets do??? Know what lets do???"

Last but not least is a newly developed quirk that sucks because she's my favorite show host and it is really approaching make-you-crazy status...

CHERYL: "I KNOW!!!!" she says it constantly. aaarggghhhh <runs screaming>

So what catch phrases do YOU notice? Good or bad.

beekeeper
02-22-2006, 12:14 PM
I KNOW! lol ... good one. Since she is my current fave, I'll let it slide! lol ...

Nicki's "a kiss, a peck, a hug around the neck" ... cute but on the verge of being annoying.

Misty's - first come first serve, on EVERY frickn' item she shows ... drives me up the wall!

mystylady
02-22-2006, 01:20 PM
Ahhh Nikki, gotta love her! She's a Smoothie! I'll let her slide on that one just cuz she doesn't say it every 4.35 seconds!

JENNIFER: "Absolutly Incredible, Without A Doubt"

THE JENNIFER DRINKING GAME:
Whenever Jennifer says "Incredible" you have to take a drink of beer. I guarantee you'll be smashed by the end of the show! This is an actual game believe it or not!

Know what I'm wondering? What ever happened to two of the show hosts that they hired before the holidays, one was a African American women, very soft spoken, and the other was a blonde guy who looked like he should be on the cover of GQ? Or have I answered my own question? Too soft spoken, and too good looking? lol!

mystylady
02-25-2006, 11:52 PM
Oh wow I forgot all about her! Jeez I don't know, she just disappeared, like Patera! LOL Talk about screech on yer nerves! I think maybe Patera crossed Tommy Brown or something. LOL
As for Ken doll, I don't know... perhaps he rode off into the sunset, perched upon a white horse,
Soft-Spoken-African-American-Woman tucked securely behind him in the saddle, never to return to Jewelry Television again. <violins playing>
LOL

CHERYL: "Gotta Move Gotta Groove"

yeah what beekeeper said.

beekeeper
02-27-2006, 11:41 AM
OH RATS! I wanted to come on today and comment on Cheryl's "little monkey" comment ... lol ... cracks me up!

Maybe the blond dude is stuck in a tanning booth somewhere! ;-)

I do remember the Black lady ... she didn't have enough personality to keep up with the other hosts. Maybe these peopel train for behind the scenes jobs?!? Who knows ...

I wonder what Heather is doing!

beekeeper
02-28-2006, 06:47 AM
Before I left the house this morning, I tuned in ... WENDY WENDY WENDY! Poor thing is on tv with what seems to be absolutely NO make-up! :-(

mystylady
02-28-2006, 08:15 AM
oh NO not WENDY WITH A BARE FACE!!! I had her on this morning too but didn't see her, I just heard this monotone coming from the TV & was like "oh it's wendy" and turned it off! Maybe she's Amish or something and isn't allowed to own a mirror? LOLOL
Not that there's anything wrong with that... for all you actual Amish folks who do or don't own mirrors...
I don't know about Heather, I didn't pay attention when she was about to leave but I wish I had, I'm sure she had to mention what she was going to be doing. I miss her, she had great personality.
LOL stuck in a tanning booth!!!
Now for a question: Does anyone else remember Patera???

beekeeper
02-28-2006, 08:26 AM
I do ... I'm pretty sure I commented about her on one of these threads. I never actually saw her do a show, but remember her from the Christmas taped programming LAST year, and then there she was again (same tape, lol) this year.

mystylady
03-03-2006, 09:00 AM
CHERYL: "I'm just LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD"

(by not announcing a price on-air)

mystylady
03-03-2006, 09:01 AM
Yep they sure did use last years Christmas tape, didn't they! I hope they make a new one for this coming Christmas!!!

beekeeper
03-06-2006, 05:56 AM
That crap bugs me ... when they won't put the price on air. Like, I'm gonna call and that price is going to be SO ridiculously low that I'm not going to be able to pass it up. It's typically a piece that isn't the best quality anyway ... it really makes no sense to me.

mystylady
03-06-2006, 10:34 PM
What she says is that by not saying what the "real" price is on the air, everyone has to call in to find out, so a vendor watching just won't snatch everything right up from under us because it's such a ridiculously low price... and that's what gives me pause... if you ask me, if I were a vendor, I'd AUTOMATICALLY call right in whenever I heard her say that she was leveling the playing field... so what's the point??? Even Pavlov's Dogs could be trained to respond to a specific word or phrase...

So how did you like your Sapphire parcel? Were they small accent stones? Good color? I've sent A LOT of those specific gem parcels back myself because when you think about it, 5 carats isn't that much yet there's a HUGE PILE on the turntable or so it looks, and then you realize that a flea would look like Godzilla on the screen cuz they magnify up the ying yang. The only real way to tell is to see it "on the hand", which Cheryl is usually excellent at doing. I hate when they purposely don't show you the size on their finger because they know that what looks like a mountain is actually a baby molehill! LOL

mystylady
03-06-2006, 10:38 PM
Another "quirky" observation:

When about to show a gem...

"This next one is gonna be item number....blahblahblah"

It's GONNA BE??? When??? For the love of Pete... why not just say "The item number on this next gem is..." Or what? Am I wrong that this bothers me? grrrrrrr! It just does!

beekeeper
03-07-2006, 10:54 AM
Mysty - the parcels sucked big time. They are both going back. Not one fab stone. They were all either horribly cut, too dark or were chipped/scratched. They should be ashamed ... I mean, REALLY! Not even CLOSE to what they showed on air. I personally think they pull a bit of the "bait and switch" with us.

LIKE, when they are doting on the "minimum" carat weights for loose stones. This one is a minimum .75 pointer ... here, let me weigh it ... WOW! This one weighs 1.97 carats! You COULD get this stone ... YEAH RIGHT!

mystylady
03-08-2006, 10:31 AM
Not to sound like I'm COMPLAINING or anything (who ME???) because I wouldn't give up and FINALLY got my stone,
but when I first ordered my 7.5x7.5mm trillion Tanzie, 1.25 carats, I had to send it back THREE TIMES because it was only 7mm and didn't weigh 1.25 carats!! I specifically took it to the jeweler to find out the weight. They eventually got it right. <grrrrrr>
Have you ever seen them weigh out a stone that's lower than its supposed to be? Talk about the "Great Stone Switcharoo" one time Tommy actually said "Oh that's why... it's THIS one I weighed the wrong stone"! Yeah right. I might have been born at night but it wasn't LAST night!

beekeeper
03-08-2006, 10:53 AM
When I first started watching JTV, I bought a gemstone scale of my own ... they (the hosts) just sounded fishy! lol ...

So far, the weights of all stones have been right on.

mystylady
03-08-2006, 11:00 AM
Smart Girl! I wish I had one! To figure out carat weight on a stoneI have to get my millimeters, times them by the specific gravity for that particular stone, carry the one...blah blah blah, would be so much easier to just go "plink" onto the scale! They're not too much, like 100 bones, right? I bet I could find one on E-Bay... well till things start looking up financially it looks like I'm stuck with the old fashioned way, ahhh me. Glad to hear that they're on the money with their weights! Too bad some of the stones look like they came from the "Beginning Lapidary 101" classes reject pile!

03-08-2006, 11:04 AM

I like how when Cheryl and Dawn poke fun at each other when they AREN'T hosting together. I'm guessing, they are real friends off camera.

mystylady
03-17-2006, 02:30 PM
I'm sure they are, they've said things before that would make you think that they hang out together outside of work. Now that would be a fun get together!

beekeeper
03-21-2006, 05:41 AM
Or Misty and Nicki ... they would be a hoot (I would probably like Misty off set ... she was so calm and normal on those Holiday shows).

UNLIKE Sharon and Angela, who constantly say they are best friends ... I just don't see them hanging out ... Angela doesn't seem the type to hang with Sharon and her big hair show-offy group of friends.

Of course, I'm just speculating! lol ...

Linda Lou
03-21-2006, 06:25 AM
Bee,
I totally agree on Sharon and Angela. Angela seems the more down-to-earth type, kinda like a soccor Mom, or something, and Sharon does seem, well, not snooty, just kinda self-obsessed. She really does need to update that hair-don't. Love her pear-shaped diamond, however. ;)

beekeeper
03-21-2006, 07:05 AM
Is she from Texas?!? ;-)

I like her ring too ... AND her rolex, although I like it better in white gold :-)

I really can't imagine someone who wears a rolex, would wear anything in 10k gold ... and she just goes on and on about it ... give me a break!

mystylady
03-28-2006, 07:03 PM
If Misty says "FIRST COME FIRST SERVED" One more time I'm gonna SCREAM!!! Arrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh!
And I HATE it when she counts down the price the way she does, EVERY SINGLE TIME! 230,220,210...and the stupid price is 19.99! It goes on FOREVER!!! And can she just ONCE not say "WHILE THEY LAST"? The woman must eat nerve endings for lunch.
<someone stop her please!!!>
Ugh!

LOL kinda gets to ya doesn't it??? It's like you're torn between wanting to watch gemstones and having to listen to a broken record. What if we wrote her a "group letter" telling her that she's driving us crazy and to please spare what's left of our nerve endings and oh yeah! that we're not stupid and don't need to hear EVERY SINGLE WORD OUT OF HER MOUTH TWICE? I wonder if that would make her stop? Of course our letter wouldn't be mean or anything... we don't want to hurt her feelings, but I'm definately game and all for it, if anyone else is. I mean it's one thing to gripe and gripe about her, but she's never going to stop unless someone at least brings it to her attention; or in other words, does something. Who knows? Maybe she doesn't even know that she's doing it. I don't see HOW she couldn't, but ya never know. I think it's worth a shot. Whaddya think? Whats the worst that could happen? I'd gladly overlook that hideous white eyeliner if we didn't have to listen to her repeat repeat repeat REPEAT herself every 6 1/2 seconds! How unbelievably annoying that is! Aaarrrgggghhhh! So, who's with me?

beekeeper
03-30-2006, 06:09 AM
She doesn't do it when she is co-hosting ... only when she is alone.

Write it up Mysty ... forge my name!

mystylady
03-31-2006, 09:26 AM
LOLOL Well, I would show it to you first. You don't want your name on just ANYTHING! LOL .... ...and BEEKEEPER said she can't STAND YOU WHEN YOU REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT yourself... no just kidding of course! LOL I don't know if I have the nerve, to tell you the truth. Hmmm maybe after listening to her doubletalk for another long long show I will. I noticed that too, that she doesn't do it with Tommy. What she DOES do when she's co-hosting is INTERRUPT! Constantly. I don't know how he stands it. Yaaaaaaaaa!

mystylady
04-07-2006, 10:49 PM
To give credit where credit's due, the last time I watched Mandy she hardly repeated herself at all, and she was alone! Plus she's gonna be a "momma" again so she deserves some slack!

Another "quirk"...

Cheryl: "The first Verified Caller" If you're not "verified", faggeta bout it!! Do people just call JTV and say "yeah gimme one 'a them there gemstones but I gots no money"?? lol lol no dice! Cheryl is still the best tho, IMHO

Aaaahahahahah!

It must be hard to be Amish in this day and age, because you can't even have electricity! Like "Little House On The Prairie" only in 2006! I wonder what the point to that all is? I mean why is being modern bad? You can still have the same values, but then again I don't know. Maybe not. I do think that plopping your kids in front of the TV these days will give them an education that you probably don't want them to have! 10:00 IN THE MORNING the other day I watched a show on VH1 called "Web Junk 20" that had the Host saying F*** about 15 times and although they "bleeped it out" you could still read his lips. Horrible! Maybe the Amish folks' kids are way better off! Tho I would imagine that if they're not home schooled they take some razzing from the other kids for being "different". A shame, IMHO.

they have their own schools, with thier own curriculum
i think they go up to 8th or 9th grade, then the kids work

the feed store guy has 9 stairstep kids
he's the head of the (amish) school board

knew that i was a teacher, and showed me some of the books they use in school
they were kinda like books used in our schools in the 1950's-1960's
they but them from a publisher in California
very interesting

dh loves to see the amish kids at recess;they tickle him

I know this isn't a phrase, but have any of you noticed how out of control Mandy gets whenever she is hosting alone, and/or when she is showing pearls? She gets so hyper, her eyebrows shoot up to her hairline, she yells, and is so completely full of you-know-what! I call her Pop-o-matic. One of these days her head is gonna explode, and pearls and poo are gonna fly everywhere.
We also call Tamera Witchy-poo. My hubby calls Tommy Google-eye - cruel, but funny nonetheless.

One more thing.....

HOW FAST CAN YOU RING THOSE PHONES???????????????????

mystylady

I personally never liked the way Mandy seems so "Hoity Toity" about Pearls, like you're a nobody unless you own a "strand" and if you DO, she goes on and on about how "People will look at you with Respect and say that you've got money". It's very superficial sounding and makes her seem like a spoiled society "La Dee Da". Like you can't gain other people's respect unless you're wearing a status symbol around your neck. OK so she likes Pearl! Enough Already! Pearls won't make a Princess out of a Dumb-Ass! It's what's in your heart... not what they pulled out of a stinky oyster & put around yer scrawny throat! See! There's that harsh thing in me I was talkin' about, rearing it's ugly head! Shame on me! Shame shame shame!!!

nope, no electricity can't drive cars
i didn't want to ask about that, but i think not...since state of Maryland or local juristictions don't fund the schools, they may be exempt
i'm curious now

stairstep children: one every year, almost (think lining them up by size)

**we went to see this same man on wednesday, took one of my students with us, hoping that the man had some baby chicks for sale
we hadn't seen him since last spring

dh asked the man "how's the baby doing?" man said, "which baby?" my wife just had one born last night"
dh asked how wife was doing "oh, she's ok, i guess'

Mysty,
I HATE pearls, never did see what all the hollerin's about. In fact, I got a gift of a 18" strand of pearls just recently, and honestly, I feel so OLD in them.

I don't mean to offend any one here who likes them, but for me personally, I felt like my Grandma in them. Give me a little chain around my neck for my glasses and I'm all set.

mystylady
04-14-2006, 06:26 PM
LOL LindaLou I knowwhatchamean! I have a chain that holds my reading glasses around my neck too! It's not even a nice chain! Ahhh me!
I don't like pearls either, tho I have a strand put away for when my daughter gets married, if she wants to wear them, that is. I inherited them from my Grandmother. I highly doubt that she'll want to... tho it's the only time when I think pearls look nice, with a wedding dress. We'll see! Just waiting for her boyfriend to get up off his Keester, Meester, and ask her!

jewelfreak
04-14-2006, 07:11 PM
I agree that pearls can look "old". But I did get two strands in really wild colors - bright purple and red - for 9.99 each with sterling clasps that look really cool from JTV. They are relatively small pearls too, and I like them a lot. I have to wear collared button down shirts to work, and the bright colors of them look really striking with a black shirt. They also have them in green and I just saw on the web site an electric blue strand with a 10kt gold clasp for 19.99. I may have to get me some of them!!!!

mystylady
04-15-2006, 05:20 AM
Sounds pretty, JF, a new spin on an old classic! Say, you could buy a bunch on JTV for 9.99 and sell them yourself for 19.99 and make 10 bones a piece! Not bad, I would say!

beekeeper
04-18-2006, 01:01 PM
I love pearls ... but I'm a little picky. I don't like the smaller mm pearls. I don't care for the Honora pieces because they use the potato shaped pearls, and if I'm gonna spend money on pearls ... they had better be ROUND!

We spluged last summer ... bought a strand of the Tahitians from JTV (black, 12-13 mm). I adore them ... and when I wore them to the fine jewelry counter at Neiman Marcus, the prisspot snob behind the counter commented on how gorgeous they were ... made me feel good.

Pearls aren't for everybody ... that's why God made DIAMONDS! ;-)

mystylady
04-19-2006, 01:07 AM
Oooohh, according to Mandy, "You've Arrived! You deserve Respect! You are a Force To Be Reckoned With" !!! lol

"Prisspot" How funny! Laughed out loud on that one! I hope when you were at Neiman Marcus, you "flipped" your hair over your shoulder, put your nose HIGH in the air and said "Of Course They're Beautiful, Dahlink... I'M Wearing Them"!!!

It's a nervous thing. Not sure if you've ever seen Kirsty Allie in interviews ... but she plays with her hair constantly. Mysty.....seriously.....what world do you live in?
What Mandy is descibing is a "first impression".
You know just as well as I do that we DO judge a book by its cover and we do judge people on looks and not by their hearts at first.
It is the society we live in.

You do it yourself.

The same way you judge show-hosts by the little sliver of time you veiw them on the air.....you immediately judge them for their whole lives!

So yes.....Mandy is right.....as sad as it is.....you know exactly what she means.

---------------------------------------
I loved her hair, too! Sort if a modern Farrah Fawcett, VERY cute. I also love it when Dawn straightens her hair, but she always looks good - very pretty.

lol ... her hair WAS a bit Farrah wasn't it ... she's such a cutie! She seems to be the only one who changes her hair often.

Did you notice Misty has been doing her hair different lately? Str8 ... not as big. I really like it ...

yeah, I did notice Misty - I posted something about it on another thread. Her hair looks much healthier now and the style really suits her, and it looks like her skin is a little lighter. She really looks great.,

I thought "Farrah" too lol very cute I like the blues she's been wearing lately. I bet she would look great in Emerald Green! And black. I'd like to see her in all black. I think it would look strikingly pretty.

This one is for Scott!

PLEASE polish your Gemstones!!!!!
You forget to do this all the time and you were showing a big, beautiful Red Lab today (first show w/ Nicole... nice!) and there was a HUGE fingerprint right on the table and on the Girdle Facets... my boyfriend was watching with me and he said "what's wrong with that gemstone?" I said "nothing, it's just Scott's humongous thumbprint"! Maybe it's a "guy thing"?
It takes away from the stone big time because it comes across as inclusions, but it's not... I could tell when Nicole put a gem out and when you did because some had fingerprints and some didn't.
I've wanted to say this for 4 years!
I love your shows! I hope you're not offended...

Scott,
I did, I offended you didn't I?
It's just that over the airwaves a fingerprint looks GYNORMOUS on a gemstone...
I mean my BOYFRIEND noticed it, and he doesn't notice ANYTHING! lol
Why not stop by and say hello?
I'm just "Preaching to the Choir"! lol
We'd love to have ya come on and throw your two cents in! (I'm speaking for all of us but "off the cuff" I should rephrase that to I'D love ya to come & say Howdy but I bet most everyone else would agree, right?) :-D

Tommy: <describing almost any MFGP>
"This is the ULTIMATE GEMOLOGY STARTER KIT"!!!

Just to re-clarify: "Quirks" are not bad!!! Quirks are "something somebody says and / or does that is unique to that person"! Sheesh have I CMA enough? or what???

Tommy's hosting with Nicole right now. I really like them together! They have a casual, comfortable thing going; a lot of back-and-forth comments, no one is talking too much while the other is just listening... more teaching going on... I love when they teach us about the gems! They get us to buy them, fall in love with them, want to learn more about them, but not very many will actually teach us about them. I'm GLUED to the set when they start going into specifics about a stone! Does anyone else feel this way?
SHOW HOSTS!!!!!
TEACH US! WE'RE SPONGES OUT HERE WAITING TO SOAK UP ALL THAT WE CAN LEARN ABOUT GEMS!!!

Mandy's back and doing gemstone shows again.
I have to say, she's back and she's driving me crazy!
Why does she HAVE to say EVERYTHING twice?
Why does she HAVE to say EVERYTHING twice?
Verbatim?
Verbatim?

She will repeat entire paragraphs VERBATIM and in rapid machine-gun fire, good luck understanding her mouth blasts.

But the tooth-clencher is how she says "dollars"

LAYY-Deeees the-is ee-iss OHN-ly 99 DAHHHHH-LERRRRRRRZ and NAGN-ty NAGN SAINTS!

I cannot STAY-YUND the way she says

LOL I always thought that was hilarious, too.

"Remember ladies, if you want to be SOMEBODY, you NEED a strand of tahitians! Only Two thousand nine hundrend and ninety nine Dahhh Lerzzz and ninety eight cents! Don't you want to be the center of attention? To have people look at you with respect? When I see a woman wering a strand of tahitians, I KNOW she's MADE it!" Blah blah blah... LOL
