View Full Version : BLING! Oscar Style!

Well another Academy Awards has come and gone... and did you see all the bling bling? You KNOW they would NEVER stoop to wearing "lab created" or, God Forbid, Technibond, so my biggest Oscar Impression jewelry wise has to be the huge Tanzie ring that Joan Rivers was wearing on her Red Carpet show. Do you think it was one of her knock offs or do you think it was the real deal? It looked "light" as Tanzanites go, but nevertheless, could have killed any one of the stars on the carpet that she threw it at, depending on her aim.
So what did YOU notice? What stood out? Gem wise!
THEN after that, how about Gown-wise? Best IMHO: can't remember them! I need to watch Fashion Police before I answer that one. So sad. I think the worst was the one (don't know who was wearing it... the dress erased my memory it was that bad) with the BUSTLE in the back, and worst, it was brown! And it had white and brown stripes on it. It was awful. I vaguely remember that the woman wearing it was beautiful... does she not own a mirror? Meow!

Joan said her jewelery was all from Neil Lane. I doubt she would wear her knock offs when they loan you the real stuff!

Keira Knightly's necklace WAS TO DIE FOR ... I was drooling.

She was also my "best dressed". Many looked great ... Reece was adorable, Nicole Kidman was gorgeous as always. J-lo's dress was fab, as was Carlize ... she seemed over dressed though, if that's possible! lol ...

Good morning ladies.

Bee, LOVED Kiera Knightly's necklace also, did you see that honker? Looked like sapphires, rubies and emeralds but I couldnt really tell. Have to wait for my Oscar issue of People to get a good look at it.

As for the dresses, I loved Reeses' and I also loved Jessica Alba's dress. Jessica look gorgeous. As for Nicole Kidman, I was not crazy about the color of her dress. It seemed to get lost on her with her very white complexion. I would think she would have gone for a little darker shade of pink. Did you happen to see Jennifer Anniston's dress? I thought that was rather blah but again my TV didnt pickup the details so I will have to wait for my People mag. Okay, Felicity Huffman, didn't do it for me. I thought her chest looked very bad in that dress. She has a great body but for some reason her boney chest looked awful.

Good morning Garnet! :-)

Jennifer Annistons dress was very pretty, but I'm like you ... the color was odd. Also agree on Felicity's dress ... her chest looked really bad!

Does People seriously put out an "Oscars" issue? I'll have to check it out!

Garnet333
03-06-2006, 06:09 AM
Well its not an Oscar issue per say, but it has all the dresses and bling bling. Should be on the stands Friday, check it out.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought Felicity's dress looked bad on her. The dress was pretty, just not pretty on her.

Did you see Jennifer Lopaz? Her dress was gorgeous!!!! You know, I think she looks great, not to thin, not to heavy, perfect. She makes the rest of us not feel so bad about not being a size 0.

Poor Jennifer Garner almost slipped coming out to present an award, I thought she was going to fall. YIKES

03-06-2006, 06:18 AM
You mean you're not a size 0 Garnet? I'm sorry (sticking nose up in the air) I can't talk to you any more!

hehe ... just kidding of course! :-) Yes I did see Jennifer Lopez, she looked great, good color on her.

I felt for poor Jennifer Garner too ... thought she handled it very well with the "I do my own stunts" comment!

LOL I guess we should end the friendship now since I am not a 0 :(

I was reading today on some of my gossip sites that Jon Stewart did not do well last night. The critics were tearing him apart. They said that he wasnt funny. LOL I thought he was terrible. I will see if I can find the link and send it to you so you can read it.

I really thought he did ok. I'm not one of his regular fans ... but I thought he was funny. I like the risky sense of humor ...

I think it's all political correctness. These are the same celebs that dote on Jon's show, but are afraid they will be seen by us-the viewers ... laughing at something that is a "no-no". It's ridiculous!

And they wonder why attendance to movies is slumping? I don't think it's just the high prices ...

They make movies ... they are paid millions to entertain us, they need to stop taking themselves so frickn' seriously! They aren't curing Cancer or anything ... !!!

Jon Stewart played it safe, and it didn't work. But when people take risks, they get panned too for being offensive. Hosting the Oscars is a thankless job, you can't win no matter what you do.

About the gowns - lots os monochromatic blondes last night. Actually, I joked to my husband they could have named this year blondes in beige 2006. None of them stood out. My picks:

Amy Adams - She took a risk and it paid off. The dress had pockets! Very cool.
Keira Knightly - Had the smokey eyes look down. Looked great on screen. I suspect in person she looked way over done.
Salma Hayek - gorgeous as always

My pans:
Naomi Watts - monchromatic blonde
Nicole Kidman - ditto
Uma Thurman - ditto
Reese Witherspoon - ditto. Plus, too matronly for her. She's under 30, she doesn't need to look like a 40 year-old socialite in 1960.

Valenitina I agree with your picks and pans with one exception, Reese Witherspoon, loved her dress. I also thought Nicoles dress was pretty but not the right color for her skin tone.

As for Jon Stewart I didnt find him funny but then again I am not a big fan of his. I do think you are right Bee about taking things so seriously, they are NOT curing cancer or performing brain surgery. LOL

Jessica Alba's dress got rave reviews in today's Wash Post. I did not like that big bow on Charlize Theron's dress. It was a huge distraction, IMO. Yes, the jewelry is rented so we got to see the good stuff, LOL. What the heck was that big sparkly pin that Terence Howard was wearing on his lapel?

JLo looked great. So much better in an understated gown than that thing that barely covered her a few years ago.

I thought the Keira Knightly's dress was beautiful, but she didn't look as good with lighter hair as she looked as a brunette in Pride and Prejudice. She was so gorgeous in that movie.

Jon Stewart bombed and I think he knew it. I was very disappointed because I wanted to see what he could do. The best hosts have been Billy Crystal and (sob) Johnny Carson.

Poor Lauren Bacall. Was she having trouble with the teleprompter or was she too vain to wear glasses?

Hi Pebbles :)

I also loved Jessica Alba's dress and Jennifer Lopez. Go to www.people.com and check out the dresses on the stars, you get to vote on them also. After looking at Keira Knightly's dress on People, I dont really care for it like I did last night but I am still in love with her necklace. Nicole Kidman's dress was gorgeous, just wish it was a little darker shade of pink. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to get a good look at Charlize's dress but I did see a big fat bow of some sort on her shoulder. LOL Also missed the pin on Terence's lapel, what was it?

I have no idea what that pin was. Charlize's dress was way overdone. In addition to the humungous bow it had criss-crossing bands in the skirt. Dolly Parton had the face lift to end all face lifts. She looked like a skinned cat.

I heard that Charlize Theron's dress looked amazing in person but didn't film well. On tv it did look awkward. She was wearing canary diamonds, and they were magnificent. I also loved her shoes.

The jewels this year were stunning! I think that was my favorite part of the night, checking out the sparklies!

I agree about Uma ... all monochrome, just too much.

I saw that Sandra Bullocks dress also had pockets, so she wouldn't have to ask Keanu to hold stuff for her! :-)

I just remembered that a few years ago, Joan Rivers was showing off a big sapphire ring claiming that she was engaged. The engagement lasted about 5 minutes but I wonder if that was the ring she was wearing?
And I read that Terence Howard was making a fashion statement with the big brooch. Ummmm, not so good, T.

I never got a good look at Charlize's dress but now I wish I had and to think I missed seeing the canary diamonds :( When I saw her she was sitting down in the audience and all I could see was a black bow sitting on her shoulder.

I loved Nicole Kidman's dress, I thought she looked so understated and pretty. I thought Salma also looked like her dress was a little bit too tight...does Lauren Bacall have Parkinson's? Also, my best dressed would have to be Nicole...I do agree that Reese looked nice but would have liked to see her in something younger. Also Jessica Alba's dress was too much for me, and Charlize's dress and hair (beehive-ish), were just a disaster, if you ask me...but the necklace Jennifer Aniston was wearing?? DIAMONDS, so beautiful!

03-06-2006, 09:46 PM
I love the Oscars! All the fuss, all the glitter, the first glimpse of a great (or horrific) gown, eating ice cream out of the container (Hagen Daaz, of course) and drinking beer out of the can...burp... of course this is all best done in your most comfy flannel PJ's and most definately ALONE or with a like minded friend or you can scare your man but he probably can't take it LOL!
I've enjoyed reading this thread! Now for my picks and pans:

Jada Pinkett-Smith - Beautiful Gown! I didn't like her hair very much, too slick. The slickest of them all was Will Smith's obvious love for his wife! Sigh...
Jennifer Aniston - I did like her dress, she's just got the bod for that style. Is it just me or does it seem like whenever she does something like presenting an award or appearing on a show as a guest that you can just imagine everyone is thinking "Poor Jennifer Her Husband Left Her For Angelina"? That sucks the big wet weenie, IMHO.
If Nicole Kidman's dress were black she'd have looked stunning. She's too pale to pull off a gown the same color as she is. She looked like she got thrown in with the whites & the clorox. She has amazing skin tho.
Charlize Theron - What was she thinking? Someone made the comment that the bow was actually a pillow for in case she got bored! LOL
The brooch the guy was wearing (huh?? that in itself is weird) was $500,000 WORTH OF DIAMONDS! All in all his jewelry was worth a reported ONE AND A HALF MILLION BUCKAROOS! Can you say BodyGuard????
WORST NAME MERGE: Vinceeffer puhleeeeeze!
What were Jessica Alba's earrings?
I THOUGHT those were Canary Diamonds!!! Score!
Dolly and "the girls" LOL LOL LOL "skinned cat". Very funny! Very True! Do you think her boobs drag along on the floor behind her when she walks around without her enormous bra on? Kinda like socks with bowling balls in them? ewww... I'm a stomach sleeper, I can't even imagine. Poor Dolly's face would be like 3 feet off the pillow! Ok somebody please stop me.
I don't mean to sound mean you guys! Just being my usual opinionated self is all... :)

Last night on her fasion wrap up, Joan named Charlize best AND Worst dressed. She said worst, cuz the dress didn't show well on tv, but in person was spectacular.

mystylady
03-08-2006, 10:51 AM
Yeah I saw that. I have to say I do like Joan and Melissa better than that one who does the E interviews now... how annoying is she???
I actually did like the way Charlize looked but that bow was so way out there it was hard to look past it LOL but once you did you saw how really beautiful she is. She looked more orange than usual though, did ya notice?
I can't say I've ever seen such a teeny tiny waist like Dolly's which by the way has probably never been in the sun due to The Shelf Of Boobys that casts her entire bottom half into the shade permanently... can you liposuction THAT MUCH??? Wowza is all... I... can... say.... <looks down own top> ..sigh

Bee did you by any chance see the show "Most Embarrassing Red Carpet Moments" or maybe it was the "most outrageous" but did you see when Joan was interviewing the Asian man who who was there for that like tribal song and she asked him to "sing it for me" and he did this strange howling wail of a WEIRD... well I guess it was supposed to be a song... when it was done she thanked him and <hang onto your hat> HE WASN'T EVEN OUT OF THE CAMERA'S RANGE YET when she turned full on to the camera and LET OUT THE MOST HILARIOUS SERIES OF LOW PITCHED WAILS AND WHINES... I almost wet my pants laughing!!! LOL
Please say you saw this... was it not one of the most horrible-funny things you've ever seen her do??? I laugh every time I think of it!

Did anyone see the "Best of the Worst Red Carpet Moments" on E!? It was hosted by Kathy Griffin <blecccchhhh!> and had some of the most classic "Joan Moments" ever, especially and most hilariously, the one where she's interviewing the Throat Singer guy, an Asian man in full Asian-Man costume, and she asks him to throat sing, and he does, very VERY weird, and the man is NOT EVEN OUT OF CAMERA RANGE when she turns to the camera and completely mocks the way he was singing (?) if that's what it was... I nearly fell out I laughed so hard! LOLOL
