And you could design a ring that you'd love to own, what would it be? I would love a honkin' Ceylon like Garnet's or a fabulous deep pink sapphire, maybe 2-3 cts., with either princess or trillion shapes on the side. I also would love to have a really large tanzanite, maybe 4 cts. probably in the trillion shape as well. I think that cut does so much for a stone.

I would purchase 1000 carats of loose faceted gemstones, no make that 2000, money being no object and all, and I'd just be in 7th Heaven! People would wonder where I am cuz I wouldn't leave my house!
As for a ring, I think perhaps a 5 carat flawless diamond set in a platinum Tiffany setting... simple but stunning! Now for the hard part... getting my man to agree! LOL Nice thread!

I would want a one of a kind ring and I would get one of those designers on ShopNBC to make it for me. I once saw a ring with big pear shaped stones with the points facing each other on a slant (hard to describe), one was an emerald and one was a diamond. I even tried it on. Another showstopper is a ring where the stone is mounted over but not touching a bed of pave diamonds so you can see the diamonds reflected through it. I think that's called a bridge setting. A big canary diamond would be good in that one. Oh, joy. But if money was no object, I'd have to have more than one. How about a South Seas peach pearl surrounded by diamonds?

I think I would love an oval Tanzanite maybe 3 or 4 ct set in plantinum with some large diamond accents. Oh dear this is a hard decision. I need to think on this a bit more. LOL

I already have my dream ring. Simple, but elegant.
There is a golden egg bedecked in jewels. It opens up to a music box and little carasel (how do you spell that). Everything is in precious metals and gems. I've wanted it since I was around 9 years old. I still want it. LOL!

If so, they are magnificent. I was lucky enough to see an exhibit featuring these along with other treasures of the Russian royal family. Now they knew jewels!

It probably was a Faberge egg. All I know is I saw this egg and I've dreamed of it ever since. 30 years ago it was a cool million. Don't even want to think what it is now. Maybe, just maybe, some day I will have that kind of pocket change and own my egg:) LOL!

Valentina, I saw an exhibit like that at a museum in Delaware. It was called Treasures of the Czars. They had knock your socks off things. I don't think I'd want a Faberge egg but I'll settle for the jewels, LOL. I bought a replica of a pair of royal earrings in the museum shop. They look like gold leaves with a single large pearl dangle.
Did you know that Joan Rivers has some of the genuine Faberge items and her collection was included in the exhibit I saw.

I have an Aunt in Florida, who at one time was married to someone extremely wealthy. She has a HUGE 4 ct. pear shaped diamond, and she did the three-stone look before they split, using a 3 ct. round Tanzie center, with a one carat diamond on each side. Honk-o-rama!!! I have asked her to remember that I'm her favorite niece.

If money were no object, I'd have a museum quality 4 carat oval tanzanite, flanked (in the 3 stone style) by 2 carat colorless, flawless oval diamonds.
sigh ...
I'd kinda like to have that 59 carat Tanzie they showed the other night too, but it's probably too big for a ring! :-(
Linda Lou
03-21-2006, 06:22 AM
Bee,
I know what you mean about the huge pieces they sometimes sell. They are really spectacular, but I really would want something that was feasible to wear. If I wore anything huge, then everyone would just assume it was a fake. And rightly so, if they know me!
I also should mention that I would love a three carat round brilliant. Seen a lady recently who had a 3 ct. just simply set on a wide, plain platinum band. It was gorgeous.

I don't know. If you put your arm in a sling, I bet you could wear it. LOL!
Linda, I don't like anything large because it looks funny on my. Dainty and elegant is more for me. Never more than one ring over 2ct. The rest very tiny, simple or not even there.
Linda Lou
03-21-2006, 07:02 AM
Hi Hellfire!
Well, I'm no dainty size person, so I say bring it on! LOL! No, I know what you mean. I don't wear over-size jewelry, but dainty just doesn't cut it for me. SOmewhere in between. I WILL own a 2 ct. diamond someday. I'm determined! There's just something about a 2 ct!

Garnet ... being tall certainly wasn't "lucky" when I was growing up, but now it's fantastic. I was lucky to find a tall man to marry me! lol ...
Linda Lou, I agree ... a two carat stone is just about the perfect size. Any larger, I think people will think it's fake.
Speaking of fake (sorry for going off topic) ... I finally saw something in Diamonique that I really REALLY want! That "diamonique by the yard" necklace ... SO adorable. I want to get two and wear them at different lengths ...

The secret to buying diamonique is to buy the smaller stones that way you cant tell they are fake. If you buy a 3 or 4 ct stone then of course you wont be happy.
Bee, I think you should try the diamonique by the yard, I think you might be pleasantly surprised :)

Linda Lou
03-21-2006, 11:57 AM
Hmmm, Garnet, you could be right about the Diamonique and the carat size. I've watched the Q since it's inception, and never tried Diamonique until this past Dec. Was kinda disappointed, however. Got just a plain 1 ct. marquis solitare, and honestly, it seemed almost too small to me. I thought maybe I would go to the 2 ct. pear solitare they have and see if it looks any better. I wouldn't go larger, as then they all look so fake.
I have seen Diamonique in person, when it was sold for a couple of years in Target, and less is more.

Linda - I remember when Target sold Diamique ... I was walking by and literally did a double take when I saw the case full of it. They had the basics, solitaires, stud earrings, pendants, etc. It didn't last long did it?
Garnet333

2 ct would be a perfect size for a solitaire ring Linda Lou, love the pear shape. I myself have 1 diamonique ring, its a band ring with really tiny diamonds, hardly noticeable but very pretty. Now I do own a pair of princess cut 2 ct tw stud earrings in ephiany which I absolutely love. They are gorgeous and people ask me if they are real. I really would love to get that diamonique by the yard......

Lots of places carry CZ's which is what Diamonique is. TJ Maxx has a nice assortment especially in colored stones. I don't think QVC's are any better than anyone else's despite their claims. Kathy Levine was the so-called Queen of Diamonique. She moved alot of it. I have some of it in tiny stones which I can tolerate but I would never buy a CZ solitaire. It's strictly fun jewelry and great for travel. If you lose it or it's stolen it's not such a big deal. I did love my 'by the yard' bracelet, though. Also, they have raised the prices on it lately.

When my parents went away last month on vacation, my mom put her real diamonds in a safety deposit box and bought a diamonique solitaire in white gold with white gold band. OMG it looked real. I mean if you were right on top of it, you could tell it was fake but just to glance at it, it looked very believable. I think alot has to do with the setting. Putting a CZ in white gold looks a heck of a lot better than having it set is some overlay stuff.

If you ever go to NYC, make sure you go to Chinatown. It must be the knock-off capitol of the universe. You will see Chanel jewelry, purses, scarves, etc. Watches copied from every high end maker and just about every brand your little heart desires. Some of it is better than others so look it over carefully. My watch literally fell apart a week after I bought it. But I had fun.

Been there Pebbles, as a matter of fact we bought some of our Coach purses on Canal St. LOL Oh do I know that street well or what? I too bought a watch, ladies rolex, mine didnt last long either. I think I may have had it for a year or so before it broke. LOL

Oh Garnet. I found it at a yard sale. LOL! Some old lady was selling off tons of gifts her relatives gave her, but had no use for. On a table full of purses I find what looks like a brand new never used PRADA! It had the upside down triangle, PRADA milano DAL 1913. Beautifully crafted. Excellent hardware on it. I couldn't believe my eyes.
One night I'm telling Glenn. He told me in his line of work he's seen tons of very good knockoffs. To look in the lining of the purse for a tag of where it was made. Hidden in the lining I find...........MADE IN CHINA.
Oh yeah, I was sad:(
Lucky me, I didn't pay a fortune. I looked the purse up on the internet and something comparable was running almost 900. The purse was marked for three dollars at the yardsale. I asked the lady if she would take one. I have no idea why I did that. I never haggle over price. I think I wanted to tell everyone I had a one dollar PRADA:)
I got exactly what I deserved:/
Garnet, at least ya have a horse in your town! LOL!
Pebbles, that sounds like heaven. I would love to see Chinatown.

Hellfire, I am sure you would love Chinatown, great place. You would also love little Italy, great food. NY is the best. Fake purses on Canal St and good food, what more could a girl want?
Phew..........Oh now I dont feel so bad. I thought maybe you paid about $700 or $800 for it. There is talk on the street that SOME of these expensive purses are now made in China. I dont know this as a fact but you know how talk is. Not even sure which brands.
Hellfire
03-24-2006, 05:42 PM
Are you trying to tell me I *might* have a real PRADA? I always thought it was illegal to copy exactly a name brand. I have studied the PRADA emblem and I can't find anything fake about it. The purse is very high quality.
I always thought PRADA was made in Italy???
Oh geeze, now you had to light my candle again of hope. LOL!
Fake purses and good food just sounds like great fun:) I think we all could use some!

Here's something to think about. My friend and her husband were in Hong Kong and they went to the marketplace. There saw a bunch of women sewing stuff and they had a barrel of designer labels that they would sew on at random. Who knows how much of that fake stuff has gotten into our stores, especially the discount stores?
Wear that Prada bag proudly. No one has to know where you got it. People get fantastic deals at tag sales all the time. I know I practically gave away good stuff when we moved.

All of my Prada bags were made in Italy. The only one I've bought this past year was leather, and most designer leather bags still come from Italy. My older ones are nylon, and they were also made in Italy. Now, see Kate Spade as an example. I have an original nylon Sam bag, circa 1998. That was made in Italy. My nylon diaper bags, purchased this past year, were all made in China. Interestly enough, when production of Kate Spade nylon bags moved to China the prices did go down. My Sam bag cost more than any of my more recent Kate Spade purchases. Kate Spade leather bags are still made in Italy. And I will say with certainty, none of my bags are fakes. I've purchased all of them at either Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. I can spot a fake bag from a mile away, I used to work in the industry. With Prada, it's more than just the logo. It's the lining, the fabric, the stitching, the way in which the logo is attached. In authentic Prada the stitches will be perfectly parallel to each other and exactly the same length. Also look at the zippers. Fakes usually are not made with the same kind of zippers as the real thing. There's a different feel to the nylon than you would find in a fake. As they age, they take on a certain sheen. Same can be said of LV bags. When you buy them, the strap is a light beige, and then darkens to a deep brown the more it touches the oils in your hands. I don't trust discounters. Authenticity cards and papers can be faked just as easily as the bags can. Besides, if you wait for a sale at NM, they get just as cheap anyway.

Breakfast in bed...Croissaints of course, then a few laps around the gold plated pool, dry off with an Egyptian Cotton towel, 1,500 thread count... mmmm maybe a massage with hot stones and oil given by a hunky man with muscles but not too many, then off to a lunch of broiled lobsters and garlic shrimp... hop into the Limo to go, where else... Shopping! Tiffanys. Bloomingdales. Saks. I buy everything that looks "cute", "sexy", "cool"... anything I want... some of the things I purchase this day will just hang in my closet and will be given to "Goodwill" two years later, still with the tags on. After stopping at a trendy club for a cocktail I head on home to the Mansion where I'll relax in my Super-King-Sized bed made entirely of rare bird feathers and topped with Cashmere sheets, watching JTV on a movie-screen-sized television with a gemstone encrusted phone on the bed and an unlimited available amount on the credit card in my hand. Dinner would be Filet Mignon and Asparagus tips served on a plate with Tanzanites set into the perimeter, Burma Rubies graceing the patern on the silverware. After Dinner, I head off to the Salon on the second floor of the mansion to get my hair, nails and makeup done. I dress in a black evening gown with spaghetti straps made of Pink Diamonds with Black Satin shoes and purse to match. After hitting all the hottest clubs I flirt with George Clooney whom I just happened to "run into". I invite him back to the mansion and he graciously accepts. We drink Dom Perignon in the Limo and we feed each other Godiva Chocolates. He runs his black silk bow tie over my lips before he kisses them.... as he murmers how he's never been in a bed this soft before...

Ya know there are people who actually live like that!! Must be VERY VERY NICE! At least we can daydream... like the black evening gown I "wore" that night... I never told you about the jewelry I was wearing! Since I was keeping it simple, I wore a 46.8 carat Portugese Round Tanzanite Solitaire set in 18K White Gold with a Pink 3 carat DIE-A-MUND on either side, on my right hand. On my left hand was my ring from my daughter, 'a course! I also wore a solid 18K WG pinky ring with Pink Diamonds all around, invisible set, and the same on my other pinky only set with Tanzanites and white diamonds. I love pinky rings. On my left wrist I wore a simple tennis bracelet... Neon Blue Round Tanzanites alternating with Icy Pink Round Diamonds... set in 18K white gold... my earrings were Tanzanite and Pink Diamonds set in a flower pattern, the Portugese Round Tanzie in the middle, the Pink Pear-Shaped Diamonds, the petals. No necklace, since I didn't want to "over-do". Last but not least, my perfume was my all time favorite... Jessica McClintock Number 3. That's what lured George in.
The perfume gets them every time!

They're all the same!
Well, maybe not ALL of them, but the majority! Thank God my man is as Loyal as the day is long! Yikes, that kinda makes ME sound like a Pringle, being with George and all...LOL
In "real life" I'm as faithful as faithful could be... I could never do that to someone. I've been cheated on in my life and it SUCKS. If I were that unhappy to entertain the thought of cheating, it would seem that a re-thinking of the entire relationship would be in order, don't you agree? But to go behind someone's back that way? Ugh. Ptooy on that!

I just noticed this thread, so I hope you guys don't mind me bumping it.
Linda Lou - I have this really beautiful Ceylon Sapphire and Diamond ring that I've had for over 10 years now, and it's still one of my favorite rings.
It has a large, oval center stone surrounded by diamonds, and the band has channel-set Ceylon Sapphires on both sides.
I think it's about 2 carats in total Ceylon Sapphires. It was kind of expensive, but I had it appraised and it's worth even more than I expected.
It's the most beautiful shade of blue..........sorry, to ramble on but I'm a gemstone lover too.

I have just got to get me one! I know what you mean about them being pricey, but there's just something about that blue color!
It was the same thing when the Tanzies hit the market, I fell in love w/the color, and just HAD to have one, and eventually saved enough so I did.
Mysty,
Yes. I know exactly what you mean. I probably would gravitate more towards someone who was a real sweetheart, rather than just someone who based most of his value on his looks. Beauty fades.....for everyone!

Actually, you have hit on the truth about men. A good looking man is almost always vain and shallow. He knows he looks good and thinks he's God's gift to women. The nerdy guys, the ones you wouldn't date in HS, are the cool guys who have developed their brains and appreciate a smart woman. You can actually talk to them and that's what counts in the long run.
I'd say this was true 90% of the time.

Now take your average or below average looking male. He's the one who will break his neck to help you on the ice by taking your arm, lovingly seeing to your safety. He's the one you can tell anything to, and he listens. He's concerned whether you're happy or not and is not a selfish lover. And nobody's gonna beat the crap out of a movie star's daughter. ;-))

LOL Both very true.
I always wonder how you look at a brand new tiny baby and pick ANY name for it.
Never mind something that sounds so adult.
Although Apple might come pretty easily, depending what you'd been smoking. ;^ )

I thought Greer Garson was an overweight man with a white "halo of hair" around the bald spot, like from the Waltons, played "Grandpa" or something... lol... no? Wore suspenders? I just can't see naming a girl Greir and having her middle name HAMMOND! Hammond??? Who names their kid Hammond? I just don't understand "the younger generation"
"...why, when I was a wee tot they named their children with sensible names, like Madge... Roland...Inez... good STURDY names. In those days we had to walk 35 miles to school each day. In the Rain. It was uphill both ways. We ate dirt and for a treat we'd get leaves from the tree in the town square. Oh we'd fight over them 'a course but everyone got one. Yep, those were the days my friends...."
