This is a sane board with nice people on it. None of the weird characters out there seem to be posting here -- thank goodness. How would you all feel if more OT threads were posted here from time to time? Nothing dramatic; just what's going on in the real and not so real world. Anyway, my idea is to invite Bookchick to post here. What do you all think of that? We could all PM her if you think it would be a good idea. If not, I can understand that, too.

I have no problem with it, but if the "troublemakers" see all the posting going on here, they will follow ... I guarantee it! They have chimed in here a few times if I remember right ... which is totally fine. I would really like to keep this area "drama free" if possible! Of course I'm not the board police (lol) and can be over-ruled! :-)

I did the big "salute" over on the View board, the original reason I came to this site in the first place. They were all just a bunch of haters (I know you post over there at times Pebbles, so this is no reflection on you) ... NEVER anything nice to say about anything. Since I left, they don't have anyone to pick on so it's practically a ghost town now. I go read the posts ... but will never post there again.

I'll go with whatever the majority wants.

Bee, I've never posted on the View board. I have posted on the JE board and some of the others. I, too, hate the climate that is on some of these boards lately but I am determined not to let the trolls win. It is a major victory for them every time they drive someone out.
I hope this place stays small and obscure, too. I was trying to think of some way to hang onto Bookchick. It is a shame that she is leaving. Any ideas?

I think she (bookchick) may already know about coming here ( ;-) ) so let's just wait and see!

I don't want them to win either ... sad it has to come down to winning and losing! Silly me thought we came here to have fun and chat with fun people about like interests! Who knew there were people out there whose main goal in life is to prevent people from clean, harmless fun! Sad ... very sad!

Pebbles,
I think it's great that you are trying to find a solution to the "troll" problem, and a way to keep our beloved Bookie, at the same time. I have to agree with Bee, however. It's just a matter of time before they start posting here. Let's hope it's not too often.

Its fine with me Pebbles and if everyone else is in agreement.

Sigh. Garnet, I don't know what to say at this point. I sure don't want to bring problems to this board. I hope Bookie will reconsider her decision.

I guess I'm somewhat of a greenhorn.. first of all, what's an OT? (don't laugh!) Second of all, I guess I'm spoiled but I only post and read on this board... sounds like there's trouble brewing outside of our little haven, huh? Well cover your heads everybody, I'm about to throw my 2 cents in! Judging from the one time I got sucked into a very nasty conversation over on the "Ellen" board I have to say that I really wouldn't want them to come over here and wreck what we have. Very bitter, miserable people who use foul language and worse, are mean to each other would make this board exactly what we've all been trying to avoid, IMHO. I think we lucked out by having what we have, don't you? I'm sure your friend would like it here. Can someone private message her & invite her over without alerting the "masses"? I think they'd be bored here anyway: no hate, no crap, no swearing, why they'd probably puke and leave! Sorry. But I sure would hate to see our JTV board ruined by a bunch of folks who don't care. OK so maybe that was 3 cents worth! My opinion is that we all found each other and we're committed to keeping this a place where we can go to chat about Jewelry & Gems, which is the name of the game. I say we keep on doing what we've been doing... including ignoring the sporadic nasty post and just have fun! They have their own place to go where they can spit all the poison that they want to... as long as they don't do it here, that's great. Am I wrong? I don't want anyone to think that I'm like a goody two shoes or anything... but well, what's wrong with that? LOL

Mysty, OT means off topic. I totally agree with you. This place has been wonderful and I hope it stays that way. I'm so glad to see that Bookie found her way over.

Yeah, the last I heard bookie was going to stop lurking and posting.......and just post!

She's seems so excited to get rid of that yucky old lurking mode. I know I'm excited for her!

Me too! I'm happy that Bookie's here and not "there", being traumatized. Like I said I think I'm spoiled cuz I've kept myself away from the "crap" of the rest of the boards so I don't know what you all have experienced first hand but judging from what I've heard it's pretty bad. I'm grateful for all you guys and for making this such a fun and informative place to go! {{{awwww!} I look forward to signing on cuz I want to see what you all have to say and I'm always cracking up over the funny things you say and how you put things! What fun it is to have a place to go to to learn, to laugh and to be able to relax in the fact that we all have the same things in common! We all share the same sense of humor too and when I write LOL I really am! It's nice too that we don't have to hack our way through a bunch of garbage to do it! It's very cool, being a part of this! Look how cool we are! It's like we're in our own universe or something... smack dab in the middle of the crap is a rose!

bee, the worst thing of it is that 99.9% of the posters are kind, decent people with a common interest in the q, it's hosts, and products

we learned a lot from each other, and had fun in the process, just not recently:-(

it's a shame that a handful of people absolutely can ruin the fun for everyone, but that's what has happened

it is like a ghost town there now, and for very good reasons

It was Heavenly!
OK I'll fess up... I never did make it to Plumbs, the local grocery store that had it, unfortunatly. I can't believe we're from the same town! Talk about a small world!
Doesn't a Snicker's Cake sound out of this world, tho???

My daughter came over to visit last Monday and brought me <brace yourselves> A dessert from Chili's which was an individual, round, "fluted" WARM devil's food cake with a melted chocolate center, with warm caramel and hot fudge drizzled over the whole thing, a scoop of Vanilla ice cream on top of THAT, and the whole desert was covered with a milk chocolate candy shell! Heaven on a plate!

I'm only a member for what, an hour? But can I add my $.02? If some shitty comment does get posted here, can we just NOT respond to it? Not even one teeny snarkback? I promise I won't.

And bookchick, if you read this, I am a Kliban FREAK!!!! Your siggy is my coffee mug motif!!! . . . . bite they tiny heads off . . . . ha ha ha! Love it. :^ )

Oooh, Mysty, the first time I had one of those chocolate cakes with the ooey, gooey center was in Paris! I was so surprised when I cut into it and got to the wonderful liquid center. My waiter stood there to watch my reaction. I think I made his day!

Oh my Garsh... Liquid chocolate centers and gemstones... all on one BB!! A perfect world!

Francesca, so far it seems that not unlike an unruly child, if you ignore them they stop. Actually, replying to stupid rude posts only eggs them on & adds fuel to the fire. I've found that just pretending that they're not there has been very effective. There's always the "Ignore" button as a last resort, which is nice. Fortunatly we have a great group here and nasty posts are few and far between.

i loved all things kliban in the 70's,then when i used 'Mousies' as my avatar/sig, i found that a lot of us still got a kick out of Qat stuff

A big Sneaker Qat has graced my bookshelf since 1977! To compliment my coffee cups the kitchen equip. includes tea towels, pot holders, wall plaque, salt & pepper . . . . LOL!

God forbid anybody should actually use them though, 'cause they might get chipped or soiled. ha ha ha

I am one happy camper the last few years since a nearby bookstore started to carry the calender again. The "situations" just crack me up. :^ )

One Hell of a nice animal, frequently mistaken for a meatloaf.

there was a Kliban cartoon to accompany this quote, but i couldn't find the image
it was a big, striped, 'super-sized' Qat whose shape resembled a meatloaf

very funny!
