For an interesting forum copy and paste this address:

YourGemologist / International School of Gemology Forums Board / YourGemologist's Consumer Forums . There's some very helpful people there. Experts and "just folks".

I WENT HERE! THIS IS MY SCHOOL!
Like I said in other threads, though, online Gemology School is HARD! It's like reading books on Gemology... anyone can do that. Plus, especially on a computer monitor, you really can't tell the "distinctive color" a gem has, like the way a Rubellite Tourmaline will show flashes of purple when you view it from different angles, or how a Green Beryl differs from a Praisolite. I'm more of an interactive person and I need to ask questions. I want to know WHY the Beryl has such high dispersion and WHY the Praisolite doesn't and Why can't I tell a Spinel from a Garnet????
Don't go by me, though. I've always needed extra attention with things like this.
Oh how I wish I could go to a "Real, Present And Accounted For" Gemology school, like Cheryl did in NYC!
It's all Rex's fault! He made Gemstones "real and attainable" to me. Before, I thought of Gems like most people do... namely that they're for the Rich and Famous ONLY.
He was a Gemstone show host on DSN who died suddenly in November of 2004...
he was... he was... he was the best.

I wondered if that was the site you studied on when I saw your post that you had started the on-line certificate.
The link I gave is a forum, sponsored by the school, for hobbyists and civvies to discuss gems without all the real technical wizardry. Good pointers about e-bay cheats, too!

Oh cool thanks! My boyfriend is an e-bayer to the max! I'm sure he'd love to hear 'em! He's not a gem-guy tho, he's a flashlight/generator/"guy-y guy. You know what I mean. He's got a 100% feedback rating! "An All Around Great E-Bayer" quote unquote. Makes a girl proud!
I'll check it out, Fran! You know what a "hound" I am for gem info!
