No free shipping. :^ ( I sure thought it would be. What I saw of Niki's show was about 50/50 on 10K and real gold.
Just kidding. I know a lot of people have no problem with 10K!
I've considered it myself when the stones are really nice and the price is decent. A setting can always be upgraded, too.

Thanks for the MR. Rebates tip! I used it twice already in two days!!!! I got a really cute pair of pink tourmaline and amethyst flower design dangle earrings for, like, $30 bucks!!! I also got the ultimate steal today - a 4ct rectangular cushion Citrine, Chrome Diopside and diamond accent vintage style ring after discount for $37!!! It is gorgeous and LARGE! There was only one item left and I snatched it up like the last beer at a frat party! Yes, they are 10kt settings, and I know that most of you don't approve, but I personally love 10kt because it is much harder and more durable. I can also wear them to work without having to worry too much.
And I have to admit I love showing off my jewels at work - all those hoity toity rich you-know-what's come in, and I get a real kick when I have better jewelry then them!!!! Which is a lot of fun since I'm only a piddly Arby's manager!!!
Okay, now I'm just being smug. I'd better stop...

I remember Clarence on QVC who used to talk about "harvesting" stones. He would suggest removing stones from silver or 10K setting and having them reset in something better. 10K has very little gold in it and it will be more prevalent as the price of gold skyrockets. My feeling is, if they were good stones in the first place, they would be set in at least 14K. Settings are very expensive anyway. I think you come out ahead if you buy it already set. If you like to keep your stones unset, that's another matter. I prefer to wear them.

I have your way of thinking, too about if it was a good stone it would be in 14kt, too. But you have to understand that even if it is a perfect, high quality peridot, amethyst, citrine, etc., those stones are just not worth that much and USUALLY aren't set in 14kt or better. Also, I prefer my pieces that have a lot of small stones to be in 10kt anyway, cuz it is harder and the prongs are less likely to be bent and lose a stone.
My collection is about an equal mix of 14kt and 10kt, and I love them all. If I like the style and the price, I'm getting it! And since my ultimate goal in life is to have at least one piece of jewelry of every stone in the world, I just can't pay big bucks for everything. I'll save my big dollar purchases for investment pieces like tanzie and diamonds. Just my opinion, though!
