View Full Version : Did I shrink or what?

I just pulled out two new pairs of crop pants (yes, I confess, I AM the person who keeps buying them) out of the shiny yellow bag and I'm confused. Length-wise, they hit me right at the upper ankle. Last year's crop pants hit me mid-calf (capris just below the knee). I'm about 5'3". While I do enjoy a hot shower as much as the next person, I don't think I've shrunk. Aren't pants that hit right above the ankle called ankle pants? Can a short person such as myself wear pants this length? I don't think so, but please tell me if I'm wrong because I really don't like going to the post office. The line is long and frankly, the personnel can be somewhat snippish.

(BTW, I find that in Modern Soul I wear a full size smaller than D&C, which is a full size smaller than what I find on labels in the Real World. This allows me to continue to live in the Wonderful State of Denial, which is no doubt a Blue State and is such a comfort to me.)

P.S. Just for clarification purposes: These were two different item numbers, different brands, different fabric, different everything except the annoying length.

Curvi I feel your pain. We are the same height and crop pants always look like ankle pants on me. I prefer the capris myself. Sometimes with crop pants the inseams can vary from 22-24 inches depending on the pant. I always look for the shortest obviously. Crop pants are not flattering in my opinion on short people. I think is makes us look like "squatty bodies."

I hate to break it to you gals.......you're short. Maybe you have to buy crop pants to have pants? hmmm? LOL!

Has anyone noticed people pulling their pant legs half way up their leg? That fold over look? Do they realize that in 10-20 years they will look back at the pictures and ask "What was I thinking?"

Youse guys are just like my mother--vertically challanged! She was 4'11" on a good day, and at 5'5", I am her shortest child. My brothers, both over 6', used to love to hoist her up above their heads and threaten to drop her if she didn't bake them brownies or chocolate cake.

I have been called many things in my life but never vertically challenged. LOL Good one Barbi :)

You have to grow up with a vertically challanged person to truly appreciate their trials and tribulations. For instance, my 4' 11" mom could never buy a dress with pockets--the pockets were so low that her fingertips couldn't get into them (she would have to hike up the dress a little).

Add to that the fact that she was a lefty.....

Barbi, my hubby and I are both lefties. Thankfully, our children aren't.

I grew up with a teeny Mom, too. I always had to "reach" things for her.

I'm always one inch shy of whatever I need on the grocery store shelf.

One of my daughters is 5'4", we refer to her as "The Tall One." For a while she had a boyfriend who was 6'2", and boy did he come in handy when I needed something off the top shelves in the kitchen. Too bad about all the character flaws, otherwise it would have been nice to keep him around.

Oh well. I guess I'll either hem the pants (yeah, right!) or send them back. And make a note that capris are the new crops, crops are the new ankles, and maybe it's just time to switch to skirts!
