I am really pissed off at Ashcroft and Oak jewelers. Yesterday, my mom and I went to an upscale mall about 25 minutes from my house. We stopped in to this jewelry store, and I spotted this ring with a stone in in that was a shade of green unlike any stone I'd ever seen. When the salesgirl pulled it out of the case, it immediately turned a bright purple!!!
When I asked what it was, the girl said Kunzite. Now, I was a little skeptical, cuz I had never heard of Kunzite thet was anything other than pale pink, and exspecially never a color change one. But she swore to me up and down that it was a new kind called Merona. So for the moment, I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was some kind of new treated Kunzite.
Meanwhile, my mom is getting really interested, who is always one for something really unique. Then I remember that Kunzite is known as "the evening stone", because it will fade when it exposed to sunlight, so I ask the sales girl if THIS kunzite will fade - she says she has no idea. Then she hands me two SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMal cards, one talking about Kunzite, then one explaining about Merona. Nowhere in this Kunzite card do they mention anything about this Merona or vice versa- nor the fading, which is off the subject of the story, but it still pisses me off for the person who would unknowingly buy a stone that fades.
Anyway, the girl finally says the merona is manmade. So then I'm like, it can't be Kunzite, becuase Kunzite is not manmade!!! So the girl finally realizes that she has no clue what she is talking about, and that the ring next to it was the Kunzite, and that the two stones have nothing to do with each other!!!
Now, I don't believe that this girl meant any harm, i truly believe that she THOUGHT she knew what she was talking about, but come on!!!! Don't they teach these ales people ANYTHING about gemstones?
It makes me so angry, because if I had not been there, my Mom would have bought this ring, and she would have paid $350 for a piece of manmade crap! And if she had, I wouldn't have even been able to bail her out after the fact, because I wouldn't have the information to figure it out it was bogus if I hadn't been there.
It just goes to show that people REALLY need to be careful about what they buy. You shouldn't have to be a gemologist to be able to confidently buy a piece of fine jewelry, but I guess this is the world we live in.
And 350 bones? For manmade? Come on!!!! I can see MAYBE $100 because its a pretty, unique conversation piece, but thats it. If I ever get to own my own jewelry store, my employees will be well trained or not work at all. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
