BIG shout out to all the gem lovers here (I love that we have all come together!).

I was just on a couple websites looking at jewelry, and saw many wonderful combinations of gems! Saw a kunzite and pave amethyst (set in black rodium) ring that was spectacular! Also saw a fire opal and peridot ring that was quite interesting. Another was blue topaz and ruby.

I know I was chatting with someone about different combinations, thought it would be interesting to hear what you ladies would love to see or have seen.

I have an amethyst/tsavorite combo ring that I love. It a large emerald cut amethyst center stone with two bezel set tsavs on the side.

oooh, I love purple and green together. I've seen amy and peridot combinations ... LOVE the idea of the higher end tsavorite! FAB!

Great thread!
Morganite and Tanzanite! Love the light pinks and deep blues together! They remind me of George! lol remember that night?
Iolite Tsavorite and Peridot. Gem quality, of course. A Pendant. A Giant Pear shaped Iolite surrounded by alternating Marquise Tsavorite and Peridots, fanning out. Diamonds would fill in as needed.
Mandarin Garnet and Chrome Diopside. A heart shaped center stone of Chrome with two side stones of Mandarin in the Trillion shape... am I like someone who's "tone deaf" only in imagining jewelry? lol OK maybe not Trillions... pears set "point to point", like from left to right there would be: Pear shaped Chrome, round side of the pear, then after the "point of the pear" would be the heart shaped Mandarin, then the "point of the pear" ending with the round side of the pear... see? Oooh! Wow! Yellow 14K slim band with "I Love You" printed on the inside!!! WOO HOOOO!!!

I think a large kunzite with smaller paved (GOOD COLOR) tanzanite would be fabulous!

Mysty, your "I love you" ring sounds like somthing you should convince George ;-) to make for you!

The only combinations I have are of colored stones with diamonds. Blue and green always catch my eye.
I'm not a fan of heart shaped stones or I Love You on anything. I have an X and O bracelet and don't even care for that.

I'm with ya on the hearts or x/o's Pebbles. I bought a big gold bracelet from the Q a while back that has a heart on it, but it's more artsy than prissy.

So if you like blues and greens ... do you like Apetite?

Yes, apatite is pretty. I have a circle brooch with apatite in it. It's brighter than a paraiba and kinda looks fake. Very teal.

Does Apatite have "rainbow flashes" or high Dispersion? I've never seen one in person. Does it look like Blue Zircon or is it a different blue?

Swiss blue topaz and peridot in white gold is the best combo EVER - very cool, clean, and fresh looking! My mom just got a ring from Kauffmann's with a large, rectangular cushion shape blue topaz with a trillion peridot on each side. The interesting part is that the peridot aren't held in by prongs - they are actually sandwiched into the open shoulders by thin wires (for lack of a better term, they aren't flimsy) - two on top and two underneath! You've never seen anything like this! We actually fought over this ring! There is another one from there that I want that they had that sold, but now they got another one in - thank god! It is a 10 carat or so oval blue topaz, surrounded by smaller, alternating blue topaz ovals and peridot princess cuts. I have to have it!
My new fave combo is citrine and chrome diopside. I also love tanzanite and spessartite. And I think thet peridot with pink topaz or pink sapphire would be stunning - but I have yet to see one. And I have always dreamed of having a huge emerald cut rutilated quartz set into yellow gold surrounded by round diamonds or maybe even citrine - in either a pendant or a ring - oh what the heck! Maybe a matched set! I also love rubellite and diamonds! Check out JTV item number JAC006. This is my ring - the only higher end piece I've actually kept from JTV - and it is drop dead gorgeous in person. The picture doesn't do it justice! Very sparkly and well made, and the diamonds even spill over the edge on the one top side of the heart.
Check out this one too - FEC637. I just noticed it on the site. If the watermelon tourmalines were clean -(and you know they probably won't be!) This ring would be an absolute STUNNER!!!
I just want you all to know that I had to retype this WHOLE long post because dumb me had JTV open in another window to get the item numbers, and stupid me pushed the "back" button, and it went back on the forum page instead of JTV! Dumb me! Lost everything! Arghhhhhhhh! But I love you all enough to retype it - obviously - or you wouldn't be reading this!
Okay, I'll shut up now....

Yeowza! Georgeous ring!!! I love Rubellite big time! Suh Weet!
The other item number was a Moldavite and Diamond ring... was that the one you meant? I have to admit I don't care for Moldavite, maybe it looses something in the translation over the TV but it just looks "blah". lol... and I just can't get over the Mold part!

Mold, lol. I had a roommate in college whose last name was Moldawer. She said that her family originally came from around the Moldau River in Europe. Maybe that's where they discovered Moldavite. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

No, sorry, it was supposed to be watermelon tourmaline. I must have copied the wrong item number. I tired to get the right one, but it's no longer there. Must be sold out, Or maybe it sold out and they reassigned the item number to a moldavite ring. Who knows.

Mold. MOLD. Moldy. Green Mold. Green and MOLDY.

Did you ever say a word over and over again until it sounds well, moldy?

Try saying "mold" over & over again! It doesn't even sound like a word after awhile!

I like moldavite, but I don't have any yet - at least I don't think so. I have a gorgeous carat and a half or so emerald cut I got in one of my parcels. It is green tourmaline colored, so it could be that or moldavite. It's crystal clean, so I guess it's probably moldavite. I don't think I would be lucky enough to get a perfect tourmmaline in a mixed faceted kit. But you never know. I'm thinking of having it set, that and my labradorite.

--------------------------------------------------------------
I DO know!!!!! Why NOT you??? You, YOU! Could be the winner of a SUPERSIZE Green Tourmaline and even a 1 Carat DIAMOND in your MFGP (so they say)... I've gotten so many rare, exotic unbelievable stones in mine (several green Tourmalines!!) that I can actually say that I'm lucky at something! Lottery? Pfffttt... I picture myself lighting a dollar bill on fire when I buy a ticket. Dice? Tssshh. Never won a roll! Roulette??? Why even bother? Even the spin wheels at carnivals... I'm the reason they're in business, I suppose. But Gemstone parcels?? I luck out every time!
So yeah, Tourmalines, Green, Big, Fancy... A definate Maybe!
I wish everyone (or ANYONE!) had the luck that I've had!!
It seems, from what I've heard on here, that I'm the only one.
That's so uncool. Why???

Who should we sic him on???
He's very good about that! All we have to do is say the word and that innocent looking paw turns into a great big fist and next thing ya know.... *POW*!! Right in the Kisser!

I have had my share of luck in the parcels. The tourmaline/moldavite, a large checkerboard oval andalusite, an awesome cushion red labradorite, a large, crystal clean aqua pear with great color, some fab peridot, some cool ones yet to be identified, a peachy square cushion labradorite - very interesting, and a large, quantum cut rose quartz that is so awesome it doesn't look real, a square emerald cut madeira citrine (which could pooibly be a precious topaz), and some others I can't think of off the top of my head.

How can I tell if a stone that I received is an andalusite? HELP! I did get a few stones that I assumed were smokey quartz ... could they be andalusite? I haven't seen enough of it to know what it really looks like ...

I need help from the GEM LADIES!!! :-)

I have some neon apatite, wonderful bright blue, not sparkly, but a color unlike any other. I had a pendant and earrings with a very sparkly blue zircon over channel set neon apatite, that was a killer! I don't have any of the "green" (normal) apatite - it doesn't do anything for me.

jewelfreak

Andalusite's base color will range from a light caramel color to a darker smokey quartz-like color. You should also see flashes or even spots of color such as green, red, orange and yellow. It kind of reminds me of a mystic topaz with more natural colors. You will know it when you see it - there will be no doubt in your mind.

Welcome, redsd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I can consider myself a gem lady, huh?? lol

Andalusite will appear more of an orangy reddish color from one angle, and more of a greenish color if viewed from another angle. Put the stone on a gem jar without the lid and put it up where the girdle of the stone is at eye level (best to do this on a towel or something in case it falls off!) then slowly turn the jar, keeping it level and you will see the color shift. Smoky Quartz is more of a bronzy brownish to a yellowish brown and not anything like Andalusite.
Is it possible that what you have is that lighter beige-ish Labradorite? I got two in my parcel... one is much more clear than the other... but also, check the cutting... the Labs tend to have a better quality cut.
I can't stand Smoky Quartz! Sorry to all who like it ;-)

I love Morganite! The jury's still out on the prasiolite but it sounds like it would be pretty, color-wise! I like the soft and pretty look too, especially the thin, dainty band (14K!) and the solitaire... whatever stone, pref. a Tanzie! Simple and sweet! I don't go for the big chunky ring look, like the knuckle to knuckle humongo ring that's like a thousand little stones set Pave...ya know? That's just me tho!

beekeeper
05-13-2008, 12:58 PM
Mike, there are always going to be people complaining about something ... so I figure this stuff is already here, and is the type of chat that will draw people here in the first place. There are people who complain about the new posts, because there have been dozens in the past with the same topic.

You win some, you lose some.

You can always simply, not open the thread. :-)

All I'm trying to do is bring the Jewelry TV board back to life, and that won't happen unless there are threads for people to post on.

Once again, you don't have to open them. Are you ragging on the actual spammer/trolls that talk nothing but sex over on HSN? Do your homework ... I've been here 5 years ... I'm hardly a spammer.

Anyway ... any new comments about gem combinations?

A couple weeks ago ShopNBC had a ring (Levian) that I ordered (and have since returned, too much money) that was stunning! Ceylon blue Sapphire and chocolate diamonds ... GORGEOUS! I really enjoyed a lot of their combinations (a new line for ShopNBC).

Carlo Vianni also does a lot of very interesting combinations (forgive me if I mentioned this before). Turquoise, white agate and chocolate diamonds, Turquoise, coral and diamonds, etc. SOOO gorgeous!
