It was during the Affinity show this afternoon. She was touting the beauty of owning real diamonds and told a story about going to see The Lion King with her family. Her daughter pointed out a woman wearing a circle necklace just like MBR's. Then MBR said "But mine was Diamonique and hers was diamonds. You could just tell they were genuine diamonds and it was magnificent." Then she caught herself and said "but my Diamonique one was pretty too; it just wasn't real diamonds."

For all these years when they sell Diamonique, the hosts, including MBR, have said "you can't tell the difference". Yeah, right. She just illustrated that isn't true, with her own story. That's because she was selling Affinity real diamonds. She'll change her tune again when she sells the Diamonque.

So which is it, MBR? You can't tell the difference between diamonds and Diamonique - in fact you need a jeweler's loupe (how many times have we heard that?) - or you can and you can spot it easily?

Hershey, you are so right. My husband owned a retail jewelry store for many years and it is very difficult - you actually need a special jewelers "pen" that measures stone hardness to tell a good cubic zirconia from a real diamond. He said he could always tell by the setting - a lot of times they set really nice stones into cheap flimsy 14K settings. I don't think you should be able to tell the difference between the two in theater lighting unless the Diamonique was total junk.

That's a funny story about Mary Beth. I never received a diamond when I was engaged or married--and when my husband asked me if I wanted one for our 25th asniversary, I decided to try Diamonique first. I purchased exactly the "diamond" ring and the "diamond" band I wanted--it would have cost a small fortune if the stones were real. Anyway, that was over 10 years ago--and at least once a week someone tells me how beautiful my rings are! The stones and the gold have held up very well and retained their color--and they look like a genuine wedding set.

You know Barbi, I can believe it. I was a a flea market on Sunday, where they sell jewelry. There was a engagement style ring, a marquise cut, and it was gorgeous, so I asked to use the loupe to check it out. It was stamped with the Diamonique logo, but believe me, it was nearly impossible to tell otherwise.

I just realized that this story MBR told yesterday means - gasp - she owns that Diamonique circle necklace TSV. At least she really does own this, since her daughter commented on it.

I'll bet MBR got a memo about that one, LOL. I know that many women buy CZ's for travel. I once had a gold bracelet stolen right off my wrist in Mexico, so I would never travel with the real stuff.

I had a gold chain ripped off my neck in a subway...I agree...for travel, Diamonique is wonderful. I'd so much rather lose a $150.00 bracelet than a $1,500.00 one!

My longtime jeweler thought I was wearing a diamond ring, but it was a cz. He said that you need a loop to tell the difference. I don't think they still make those cheap cz's anymore. I had a a tennis bracelet of one of those from the '80's and it looks grey compared to the cz's made today. Anyway, I don't think that QVC or other big name cz mfgs can copy exactly any jewelers design. I think maybe that's why MBR had the hoof 'n mouth. The Affinity diamonds may be good quality stones but I don't like their style. I would rather have good quality cz/cz's with gold and a fantastic look. I like large rings, pendants, earrings, etc. that look believable. I would never wear anything too expensive or sentimental...like my engagement ring, etc while traveling or walking around in a major city. I used to until a plain clothes policeman approached me while waiting for my husband to pick me & my young son up from a well known theater. He told me he would wait with me until my husband arrived bkz just up the block were people who would just as soon cut off my finger to get the ring. Once I went into a jewelry store, wearing a diamonique marquise ring. Before I was within 10 feet of the jeweler, he knew it was a "cz". I was going to have the ring sized until he said "oh, it's a cz".....I asked him how he could tell that 10 feet away without a loop and he said it was "easy".

Elmo, it was easy because most of the diamonique look like flawless perfect stones. Not many can afford such.

I've seen diamonique get a bad rap around here, but I swear by the stuff. As some have mentioned, if something happens you only lose something of sentimental value. You don't get hit in the pocket book.

Hey HF! You know, I agree with puddy, that the Diamonique of old looked more like real! The ring I looked at recently isn't even offered in the line anymore, I recognized it as an older style of solitaire.

I just got in the mail today, an Ephiphany 2 pc. set. Looks pretty nice. I DO think it was overpriced at $70 + bucks, but it was on easy pay, and that always makes it more tempting.

I wonder why she thought she could tell the other woman's were real diamonds? Especially from a distance.

Me too! When she was telling the story, I actually thought to myself that it might have been everything else about that woman - how she was dressed, her other jewelry, her possibly very expensive handbag and shoes, who she was with, etc. Then I thought to myself that she was probably just talking out of her butt, so to speak, telling a story in an effort to sell the Affinity item.
