Wow - I've seen this wish pearl presented twice today on QVC, obviously for holiday gift giving. I hadn't seen it, though, in a long time. It used to be on often.
Does anyone own this? I'm not tempted to buy it but it seems like a cute gift for a teenager or girl.

Now there's a blast from the past!
My mom gave these to my daughters a few years ago, and they had fun with them. I can't remember if they were supposed to be real silver, but the metal kind of corroded after a while. I saw them a year or so ago in a new design; maybe they've been updated. (I've seen them in lots of stores too.)

I did something like this in EPCOT in Disney World. In the Japan pavilion, there is a store with a Mussel tank where you can pick one out and they open it in front of you and then you can have it professionally mounted into several different settings - I have mine on a 14K Dolphin pendant and it has held up very well.

Curvigirl, now there are three choices of shapes in which to put the pearl - the original cage, a cross and a hokey looking dove.

I like my jewelry already mounted, less the nasty mess and smell. :D
They've been around for years.

I bought one from JC Penney's several years ago and gave it to my daughter who was a teen at the time. She seemed to like it. I saw it in her drawer a few weeks ago and it still looked ok..although she doesn't wear it anymore. I don't think it's really a "grown up" gift...but that's just me.

I've seen them before. I think for the same price you can find a better gift in silver.

I could have sworn that it came with a Silver chain long ago, but the presentation I saw of it earlier came with a fake gold chain......
It's funny and tacky that they go on about how it's a real pearl, but the chain and setting are fake gold; it would be more appealing if the chain and setting were Sterling Silver......

i went to a pearl party this summer where you picked out your clam and then sent the pearl off to be set in your choice of settings. I got 2 pearls and traded with another lady so I had 2 matching pearls and got them set in chandlier earrings. they are nice but I could just gotten the earrings on QVC for less.
