View Full Version : Show hosts behavior insults the viewers' intelligence

I am new to the board and am posting because it appears some of JTV's hosts read and post here. I have been watching and buying from JTV for over 4 years now. I will start with something positive about a host. Dawn is great and appears to be trustworthy, for the most part Cheryl too (although she has gotten a little odd lately). Misty is the worst for playing the price game. I like watching the new host, the one who always gives the price. I really don't want my time wasted waiting on prices, I can't count how many times they lose a sale with me becuase of that. I want the hosts to understand all those veiled comments about celebrities and high-end stores tend to be insulting to your viewers' intelligence. So are the constant "Oh I have just got to have this one..." "Please leave me one..." "I am buying this one ..." comments. For the most part the hosts have become so syrupy and over the top that I feel they are no longer trustworthy. For example Mandy's constant statements calling the gemstones jewels. Like that is going to create some type of association in viewers' minds and we are going to jump up and buy whatever she is showing. I don't know what has happened at the company in the last year or so, I am sure some type of marketing surveys have led to the way the hosts behave now, but please cut it out. It is hard enough dealing with all the damaged stones I recieve and misrepresented or incorrect items. You really are insulting the intelligence of at least some of your viewers and making it very difficult to tolerate watching you.

I hate it when they pretend to be shocked at the pricing of their jewelry. Just the other day one of them said one particular item had NEVER been at such a low price at Jewelry Television before. Uh, yeah it has. I bought the exact same thing several months ago at the same price. It was NOT at a drastically reduced new low price.

With that said, I've bought some lovely things from JTV. Still, some of their sales tactics annoy me.

That is exactly the type of behavior I am talking about. I am pretty familiar with their items so when they do that or say a price has been reduced when it has been at that price all along all trust goes out the window. Or when Sharon pulls the "I am going to take it lower even if it means my job..." routine. I guess I am starting to sound a little bitter.

For the record, I too have some wonderful pieces from them, but the cost of sorting through some of the damaged stuff can get high, especially return shipping fees. It just seems that I did not have this much trouble a year or two ago. Am I the only long termer who has noticed that their growth has also led to some problems?

I'm with ya both! I too have some great pieces from JTV, but like 6xblessed said, their sales tactics are ridiculous.

Sharon is the worst IMO. Just this past weekend, she was selling a 10k gold ring with 1 carat of diamonds. She went on and on about how they haven't had a 1 carat diamond ring for $199 for several years. Excuse me? Most of the 10k gold 1 carat rings are $199. What's this liar talking about?

I find myself watching very little these days.

What bugs me is when a hosts say's something like I got to have one of those then they proceed to say "I don't even have one of those in my collection". How many times have JTV hosts talked about not owning a 1ct diamond ring...yet they always say how at there prices everyone can. Doesn't it seem strange that if there prices are so great they don't all own one? Maybe the understand that any diamond that cheap is junk so they won't own one.

I have such a hard time watching Sharon and Tamara anymore. I usually shut it off after a few minutes. Everything with Sharon is about being "high end." Like most of America, I'm not high end and have no use for "high-end" jewelry in my daily life. Tamara, although she can't help it, has a voice that really grates on my nerves, like the woman in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Most of all, they're just way too sugary sweet with each other. It's just a little too nauseating for me. I get annoyed with Sharon who references pop culture all the time but ALWAYS gets her facts wrong. Tamara I'm sure is nice but there's a such thing as too much animal print. The two of them also scream a little too much. Just sell it, don't scream it.

6xblessed, Lisa Robertson at QVC gets called out on doing the same thing all the time (high end comments). She says "this is so Madison Avenue" about a dozen times per show.

I like high end, don't want to waste money on crap, which IMO is most of what JTV hawks (10k gold). I'm sorry, I know many disagree with me on this one, but jewelers will not put a good quality stone (diamonds) in 10k gold, and they are insulting our intelligence by claiming otherwise. Trying to sell me a 10k gold 1 carat cluster ring as "high end" is just pathetic. I browse the jewelry counters at Neimans and Saks regularly, and I've never seen any of these cluster type rings there. Sharon is talking out of her as*. I understand they can't say "this ring is not the best quality, but if you want a pretty sparkly ring, it might be for you" ... but their tactics are no different than "bait and switch".

Oh, I agree with you there. I'm not a high-end gal. I have six kids so it really isn't in my budget. I just want simple and cute to match my wardrobe. However, even I can see that the cluster rings are crap. Honestly, they're just ugly. Even if they were high end, I wouldn't pay for a cluster ring. That's just my opinion, of course.

I did see something kind of funny a few weeks ago. Dawn was on and for some reason talking about a Bella Luce tanzanite simmulant ring that she bought because it looked so real. She said one or some of the other hosts said to her, "You actually bought one?" She said, "Yep! I sure did!" I thought it was hilarious because they way she said they questioned her about it was in a tone of, "You actually bought a piece of that crap?" I just thought it was funny that she told that story on the air. I personally think that Bella Luce stuff is ugly. Again, JMHO.

LOL...the truth comes out sometimes when they talk off the cuff like that. How many times has Tommy said he wished he had bought more tanzanite or paraiba tourmaline..yet they still show the stuff and he still say's he doesn't have enough. I would suspect most of the hosts don't buy much of anything from there own company.
