This is off the QVC topic, but I know that there are so many pet lovers here (as I am) and I wanted to issue a gentle reminder after I heard of a tragedy yesterday. We had a two-day heat wave here in the Northeast this week. A co-worker's daughter of mine works in an office where pets are allowed. Well, one of the women who works in that office arrived in the morning and made several trips to her car to bring some items into the office. Sadly, she forgot that her dog was in the car. When it finally dawned on her around mid-morning that her dog was in the hot car, it was too late and the poor dog died from the heat. The police were even called but decided not to press charges against the frantic woman because she was so distraught and there was no malicious intent. I can't even imagine the guilt she must be experiencing right now. Let's remember our "babies" in this heat.

This makes me so sick. How could you forget your pet???? I don't get it.

People like this should be banned from ever owning a living creature.

Have mercy. How does one go about forgiving oneself for that kind of unintentional mistake? Bless her heart.

Call it distraction, carelessness, or just plain old stupidity. I hear from my co-worker that the woman has not stopped beating herself up over this incident.

How many children also get forgotten in parked vehicles each year ?

Are people that stressed, juggling an over-booked schedule ... multi-tasking ?

This is happening so often that it is being suggested that either a toy or a " reminder/marker" be left in view on the front passenger seat ....so that one can actually remember to look behind in the backseat !!!!

OMG.

Just reading this made my heart race. That poor, poor dog.

I simply hate to hear of any animal suffering, purposely or not.

So sorry to read this story. Unfortunately it does happen. Also, be very careful with pets outside too. This happened many years ago, but we had a rabbit that we kept on our porch in the summer. A heat wave hit and we forgot to move him. Unfortunately, he died. We will never forget that day, nor our pets again!

Maybe because I don't have children, my pets have become an integral part of my life.

I could no more forget them then I would a human being.......in fact, I probably worry about them TOO much. Sure, they're a little spoiled with attention, but for what they give back, they deserve it. :D

my Jack Russell terrier always wants to go w/ me in the car. in summer i stick him in my huge summer bag & take him inside post office, shops etc. w/ me - or else i leave him home.

Sammy would never let himself get forgotten or ignored but i suppose if the dog was asleep & owner very distracted, it could happen. i certainly feel for the pet's mom.

who hasn't done something incredibly lame? i sure have but never with awful result. she made a mistake from which she'll never really recover. poor woman.

Has anyone else noticed that small dogs appear to be more and more tolerated in public places? Maybe the Hollywood jet setting girls carrying their designer dogs in their designer bags everywhere they go are actually ON to something. I've been noticing these little dogs in bags in my area shopping malls, the nail salon that I go to, and as I mentioned in the first post of this thread, more and more in offices. Even though it's the law, I seem to be noticing more and more service dogs (large ones, too!) in restaurants.
