I think I figured out why shipping costs so much....

I ordered the Ephany (sp?) and diamonique circle pendant which came in a standard size ring box - inside a brown manila envelope that measured (because I did) 9 x 13 inches. I returned it in a 5 x 7 that was still way too big. I have received small cookbooks in huge boxes packed with pellets. It does seem that those in charge of packing/shipping might use their heads for something besides hatracks. Printed material can be shipped (more cheaply) as media mail, which is how I return books to the Q. But, that might save us customers some money....and we can't have that, now can we??

I ordered a book from Barnes & Noble yesterday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. PST.

It just arrived--less than 24 hours from mouse click to my door!

I'm impressed.

(P.S. I am aware of the plight of independent booksellers and try to buy from them whenever possible; my local bookstore didn't have this one.)
