View Full Version : QVC Weekend Invitation

Did anyone else get this invitation in the mail? On Sept 14 - 16 QVC is having a special holiday shopping weekend. For $440 per person (double occupancy) you get motorcoach transportation, hotel room and meals plus several QVC events, including (excitement building) audience seats in a special In The Kitchen with Bob show. The only thing they don't say is that you can charge the weekend to your Q card.
If I want to blow that much money on a weekend, I will take a quick ride down to one of our CT SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMs - I will still be hosed, but I will have a much better time!

Rebel Mom, I never got anything like this in the mail, but what I'm wondering is, how could you use the words "excitement building" and Bob B. in the same sentence? :D

i didn't (thank gawd) and i wouldn't even consider it. i can think of a million other things i would rather spend my $$$ on than a 'Q' wkend. heck, we can all get a free 'Q' wkend by tuning in fri - sun each week. but do we???? awwwwww!

$440 a PERSON?????? I don't pay that much to stay for a weekend in a posh hotel in Montreal! I'll bet there are people who'll go! Imagine the thrill of watching Boob in person!

Oh, sob, sob, boo-hoo I didn't get an invite. Of course if I had that much money just lying around waiting to be spent, I could find so many better places for it. Makes you wonder what the "Q" management is using for brains these days.

LOL...I think they are actually providing the transportation at least if you live in CT. There are two locations named, one in East Hartford and one in North Haven - convenient locations for anyone living in the state - at commuter lots where you can board the bus, excuse me, motorcoach. I don't feel special, more like I have "sucker" written on my customer profile. I guess it is time to stop the Judith Ripka addiction I have developed cold turkey.

But think how much JR you can buy with the $440 you just saved!

I received the same invitation and bus transportation is provided in my area, too. I was given two weekends to choose from: Oct. 12-14 or Nov. 2-4. If you participate, you arrive at the Desmond Hotel on Friday evening, followed by a visit to QVC Studio Park with a welcome reception and private shopping at the Studio Store. Saturday is breakfast, more of Studio Park and Studio Tour and a Behind the Scenes Tour. We'd then have a choice to go to either Kitchen Kettle Amish Country or ROckvale Outlet Center. On Saturday there is a meal with a program host, and then end the weekend "with a blast" by attending a "In the Kitchen With Bob" live audience show. Looks like the $440 per person double occupancy includes both nights at the hotel, breakfast and dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday at the hotel, tips, taxes, gratuities, bus travel and a tip for the driver. Is this too much information? Must be me, but I thought it sounded a bit interesting (except for the show with Bob in the Kitchen).

I will hazard a guess that only those customers who live within a reasonable drive from West Chester, PA got those invites. And, I will also bet that the second (maybe the first) criterium was how much $$ that customer spent in the last year, or so, at the Q.

Bichonlady - sounds like exactly the same invitation I received, just a different weekend. And now I am really depressed, if I made this list I spent way too much money on the Q over the past year...

Imagine if the host you wind up having dinner with is Dan Hughes. He's got all the personality of Elmer's Glue.

I work next to the Desmond Hotel, and let me tell you, it is a nice hotel. I would say 4 star (with 5 being the highest). I'm sure a night there is at least $200 a room. I know that a wedding reception there is about $50,000. Just in case anyone is interested in going and wonders what the hotel is like - no worries.

Panda: your comments prompted me to go online to look at the Desmond Hotel. You're absolutely correct: it looks lovely. There are so many other things to do in the area, too.

I just want to wade in on this qvc invitation. about 3 years ago, I got an invite similar to this one. Now of course it does help that I live in MD and I am originally from the West Chester area - so I invited one of my girlfriends and then stayed at her house - didn't have that expense. Ours started on a Friday night around 10:00 PM with Val Parr Hill - I am not a big fan so we skipped that. But they treated us like queens - they had tons of their vendors there - Honora pearls, smashbox holly. lori greinir, white mountain dave, southwest jewerly girl, joan rivers and jeanne bice, kitchen aide, tova, the rug guy and most of the vendors gave you free samples of stuff. we had a free lunch, behind the scenes tour, a fashion show, then when you were leaving they gave you a shopping bag of more stuff! I got honroa pearl earrings, a lapis chunk bracelet, a lipstick or something from smashbox. Saw a lot of the hosts, both lisas, leah williams, pat james, also met the infamous Sheila Johnson, they had us in their auditorium with MaryBeth, Rick and Sharon and we could ask all sorts of questions - I asked "how much do you guys talk when you are not on the air" and then some of the execs were walking asking for your opinions of anything they could do better. then that night we went on buses down to this nice restaurant in Philly - its been there about 35 years - its an old sailing ship - anyway, david v was there. they brought us back to qvc - the next a nice brunch and ending it all with Bob in the kitchen - I didn't stay for that but it was fun. now there was a woman who flew in with her husband from California - she was english and she just creamed her jeans over everything. I will probably never get invited again but it was fun - the place is huge.

Backseat: If the weekend I was invited to is anything like you describe, I gotta tell ya that it sounds like fun! I'm trying to talk my husband into it, but he's afraid that he will be the only guy on the trip and people will think he's "strange". We have one other problem and that's my Bichon who suffers from separation anxiety when I'm away from her.

Bichonlady - leave the hubby at home with your dog, and take a friend. I think you should go for it!

It does sound like a good time. Just not sure I am into the Q that much that I would enjoy myself. But ya never know.
I would keep the hubby home. That is a security on a visa ya don't need.....LOL

He might actually enjoy himself, but remember lots of "real" men would curl up and die before they admit they actually watch shopping channels. If he is flexible and has a good sense of humor, bring him along.

Hey Bichonlady!
I totally understand the separation anxiety and the bichon. My bichon-poodle wants someone home with him all of the time. But I would suggest leaving yours at one of those dog hotel places. The staff is there to walk, love, and spoil while you're away. It's sure worked for us. :)

sueshe: the letter says "$440 double occupancy". Do you snore?!?!
missitaly: would you believe that my mother lives in an in-law apartment right downstairs from me and even leaving her with my mother might be difficult. I'm taking a vacation in August (first one in many years) for one week and we're leaving Abby behind. I honestly don't know how she will fare while I'm gone. My husband says that she howls many-a-day when I leave the house just to go to work, then hides under the bed for most of the day! Have you ever left your baby at one of those doggie hotels? Were you anxious about it?
sueshe
07-08-2007, 06:03 PM
I don't snore, (well, maybe just a little, just stick cotton balls in my mouth, that works) unfortunately may have a bit of a gas problem...LOL just kidding.
I have left me dogs, as much as I hate it, whenever the time comes that I have to do it. Lately, my 21 yr. old daughter cares for them while we are gone, so I don't have to worry at this time.
Pet Smart has an really impressive doggie/cat hotel. Not only can you rent out a nice room for them, they provide play/social services at the same time......
Have you ever thought of a playmate for you "bichon". That is what happened in our household. I had to get one for the senior, the junior, the teenager. They all play well, and only a few fight for the alpha role, the 2nd youngest always wins, except for adult intervention!!! I grew up with 1 dog, sometimes 2, I have no idea how I ended up with my 4, but I love every one and their poodle titude...................

sueshe: we had two Bichons until a year ago when I had to put the oldest one down (she was about 16 years old) due to complications from Cushings Disease. She was so, so sick. This surviving one, Abby, is a total Diva and dislikes all other dogs and didn't even grieve the loss of her own sister! My sister has a beagle: Abby despises the beagle. My niece just got a mini-Daschund (the cutest little thing!) and brought him here a couple of times. Naturally, the puppy wants to play. He romped after Abby trying to get her attention, well, she growled at him and gave him that sideways look out of the corner of her eye as if to say, "Back off. I'm not having it." She's a total princess, I tell ya! I don't trust how'd she react if I brought in another dog.

Sorry for your loss. We too lost our bichon/poodle dog last year, after 15 years. Oh I hear ya, and have been thru that transition period many times. When I have introduced the new dogs, it took exactly 2 weeks for the other dogs to come around. This has happened twice, as I got a puppy 2 years ago, and 1 a year ago. Believe it or not, she will come around it just takes time. The dogs would have nothing to do with the puppies, and the puppies would take it in good jest, but before long they have become the best of friends and play all the time. Because I have 4, I have to take 2 dogs at a time to the groomers. The other 2 dogs sit by the door anxiously awaiting the arrival the newly groomed dogs. I don't know how I ended up 4 dogs, but gosh I love em all!!! I love diva dogs too........ :)
