Hi!
Haven't been here in a while but it seems like things are the same as always..maybe a little worse. Bee, I know what you're talking about RE: the merchandise! A bracelet I ordered was "raw" on one side..the gold had not been smoothed out or polished so it was like wearing needles and very uncomfortable. It's been put away..not even my girls can wear it! A parcel of gemstones I ordered had several chipped stones but I didn't really want to pay for the S&H again! Those were thrown away. In surfing the channels I saw a really pleasant, pretty gal with Robert named Avi (?)She has CLASS. Compare her to many of other "certain" hosts & my husband & I see a really cute, young, knowledgeable host, that is a NON-SHOW OFF on how much she knows, NOT A SHRIEKER or talks over the other host to show how much she knows over the other host! Speaking of all those "don'ts", I also understand that "Tamara", does NOT speak "several languages." She kills Spanish (she called a kitchen a filthy PIG), hee, hee, I swear and CANNOT fake knowing the other languages, because many of our friends had laughed at some of the things she has said in the past. I may actually watch when Robert and AVI are on! I'm still wary of the product though! Good to see some of you are still around!

Yes, Avi is a pleasure to watch -- very composed and smooth.

Avi is a fresh new face. She's pleasant and fun to listen to. Did she replace Jennifer? I haven't seen her forever ... not that I watch that much anymore, but whenever I flip over it's Angela, or Robert/Avi, or Sharon/Tamara.

Let's not go giving her too much praise. The better talent doesn't tend to last at JTV long. The old hosts(at least this is my theory/opinion) fell threatened and ask management to move them over to SAH or get them fired. I hate to say it but I think the older hosts at JTV have something on management therefore are basically "untouchable". The only way this will ever be resolved is if there is a shake up in management or ownership at JTV. Otherwise you will probably see a carousel in the good talent and the same old in the bad "talent". At least until it starts to hurt JTV in the pocket book, which will eventually happen. I don't think JTV can count on volume based sales forever. Eventually people will catch on to the crap...cable networks will start to dump them and they will have to do something to shake it up. Or so the consumer can only hope.
There couldnt be a better title for this thread...
The reason you see the veterans on is because they are tried and true makers.
If you are new, you have to produce or move on...its very simple.
JTV is a buisness.
JTV is there to make money.
Make money for the company...or move on.
Shows are people...period.
There isnt a company worth its sand that would keep its people on staff if they werent producing.
Wake up.
"shows are people...period." should translate to ...
Showhosts are salespeople....period.

you should NEVER buy their parcels, and by that i mean especially those alleged treasure troves with spice
there's no question that those are substandard gems that someone used to practice on.
and or stuff that got broken, chipped, less than quality control could tolerate and so on
when you watch them feature the stones in the parcels, watch closely, they flip them rapidly but they are always chipped, included, horrible in fact.
i would be careful of the loose gems too, because they only feature their largest and least included sample
but look closely
the less experienced can't flip fast enough to avoid the windows and inclusions
but if you look closely you will see that even the best sample is poor espy if it's tanzanite
in the past they had simple lighting in that studio and you could tell what you were getting,
forget it now.
sure i have a 30 day window to return
but to insure and return it can cost as much as 30 bux
what a scam
and they aren't even earning the scam money as that goes to ups or someone similar
the jewerly is what it is.
check the real market wholesale price, and see if the wholesale exceeds their sales price
then you have a bargain
otherwise it's crap
crap -- tanzanite and the 4 x wholesale price on mozambique paraiba tourmaline.
exclusive my butt.
some of the stuff they do have an edge on the market or have had
can't name a faceted stone recently though where they are a clear winner over anyone else.

It's pretty hard to produce when you bring the newbies in and only give them one or two shows a week. Sorry I just don't buy it. JTV is a volume crap sales driven company...and it doesn't have anything to do with the hosts. They sell cheap and hook that cheap market into buying there cheap product. They just hope that the return rate doesn't exceed the sales, most people don't bother returning so it's a win, win situation for JTV. But like I've said this kind of business model will not work forever and eventually JTV will have to hire talent that knows what they are doing and show better quality product.

like i said you got to know what you are looking for, what is really quality, what are sales tricks, what are high pressure tricks, and so on.
i can't say that any of the shopping channels have any better product or any better hosts.
when jtv first started out, their primary product was closeouts and bankruptcies.
they didn't have as much manufactured for them.
one really really fun thing to do was, watch the other channels at that time, and jewerly catalogs, and watch as the others couldn't move product so they'd sell their product as overstock to jtv when it was acn. it was ok stuff, no better no worse than what anyone else had, just cheaper because acn got it for a discount
if you were really really attentive, you could figure out when the stuff was moving and when it would end up on acn. that's when you really got a bargain
gem watching was a lot of fun then too because they would show many many one onlies. they'd spend good amounts of time on the one onlies so you could see what you were buying. you could put stuff in reserve and switch off when you found you really wanted something else.
my preference is gems, and i think of the gold around it as a way to transport it around with me during the day. when i buy a 10 k ring it's never for the design or the gold. i try to figure out if the retail and the wholesale for that stone exceed what the total of the stone and setting add up to from another source.
with gems, it is all subjective. there's some basics such as cut clarity and inclusions that tell me whether it is a good rock but besides that it's all about whether my eye likes it and if i need cash will someone else find it appealing
when the economy goes kabloie collectors won't have the edge. if i split a crappy 10 k setting from a stone, i can barter two times.
if the economy doesn't go kablooie i can enjoy my petrock for as long as i am alive
which leads me to the next question.
gems and gold are NOT inexhaustible.
never mind the tanzanite exaggerationsl
none of these channels can last forever. quality is a secondary issue. no one can sustain the volume required for a 24 hours jewelry show. several more in the market at any alleged quality point just makes the possibility that jewelry only shows will fizz out
i have to remark that these tv shows are creeping up all over europe and asia as well.

Hmm that's one way to look at it.
I've been VERY fortunate regarding loose faceted gemstone parcels from JTV. SOMEBODY must be happy about them or they wouldn't be in business, right? I wish there were more good testimonys about JTV! But if you're not satisfied, send it back and TELL THEM THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SHIPPING!
I ordered a Tanzie that had to be sent back more than once and I told them that THEY HAD TO GET IT RIGHT AND I WAS NOT GOING TO KEEP PAYING FOR THEIR MISTAKE. They complied. If you're not thrilled with your purchase, speak up!
They DO listen! I've never had to pay for a return purchase, postally. It does stink to think you're going to get something awesome and have it turn out to be less than what you've been expecting. Frick!!!
I hate when that happens!
