robert scatters his show with a few movie lines and impressions and pop culture references that make the show more entertaining. I don't know if others like it, but it's sort of a cute exchange between him and the other host
so far it's not been distracting and makes me pay more attention
note to acn: shut off the dang blasted redlight that you use to highlight the tanzanite and champagne diamonds to simulate the red flashes and "almost pink diamonds, that's what argyle produces" nonsense
tanzanite will flash red as it's third axis but iolite does not
poor Avi bloopered when she said, oo look at the red flashes, if it's not coming from said red light (which i can even freakin see bouncing off things like peridot shut it off dangblast it)
then it's coming off her pink/red sweater she was wearing today.
yes avi iolite is pleochroic
avi
if it's flashing red, it ain't a Iolite
here is a clip from a website
The property that made iolite so valuable to the Vikings is extreme pleochroism. The stone is extremely pleochroic, which means it appears different colors depending upon which direction the stone is viewed. Iolite has three pleochroic directions. In one direction, it appears blue, in another bluish gray and in the other grayish yellow. It is being used extensively in jewelry today because it resembles tanzanite but is much less expensive because it is more plentiful.

don't worry, we forgive you, your young and your not a gemologist (that we know of)
but please, don't do it again, because all you are doing is pointing out that phony red light they switch on to make things flash red that aren't flashing red in the studio otherwise. imho a fraudulent tactic
of course the other channels are far more egregious, but doggone switch off that light

Hmmm... a red light... I hadn't thought of that. But surely, if there IS such a light, it is illegal to use? Now THERE'S a question to ask the hosts who visit here...

geez, it's a studio, lights are plentiful. this is nothing new.
some time ago, they were less skilled with their lights, and sometimes you could see the light leaking out on the host's hand
it can't possibly be illegal
they use a completely different light on tamara so that her makeup makes her look a little better
the only other thing that could make her look better is beer goggles
why would it be illegal to light the product. if you can light the hosts
you have to be able to use a different light on the producct than on the people
that's one of the purposes of the light box
have you ever noticed that the colors of anytinng in the capture shot is a completely different color than what's on the turntables and often, the color on the showhosts hand is even a 3 rd color.
many stones exhibit if not frank pleochroism, different tones in different lighting
it's up to the studio to figure out which works best
if you go to a common everyday jewelry store, they also light their stuff up too
never ever do those products look the same when you take them home
so if jewelry stores can light their product so that it looks its best, why not acn
i just can't stand it though when they go on and on and on about red flash that's not there on their poorer stuff
it is there a lot, but not on every stone becasue not every stone is gem quality in spite of what they allege

here's a link to pleochroism. if the tanzanite was really good and really well cut to exhibit pleochroism, it would appear red from some angle, rather than just the stupid little dot of red flash they are always raving about. All they ever show is a royal blue stone. it never goes purple it never goes red. the red that does appear on their stones is focused and directional and is always in the exact same spot on every stone, whether they are showing the stone back front or side. it's obvious it's a reflection from a bulb. sometimes yuo can see the red off the tweezers and that makes them just a little pink. sometimes you can see it on the other stones when they are moving too fast. when they have stones that show all three colors for real, maybe then i will buy
i heard angie explaining this morning, i wonder why, that champagne diamonds will exhibit red and other flashes depending on the light source. she also started talking about which flashes she was seeing in the light source she was in. i appreciated that.

I know that LIGHTING a stone is not illegal... I just wondered if COLORED lights were (as in a RAED light for pseudo-pleocroism) as in FALSE ADVERTISING. (Although I suppose if THAT were the case, ALL at home shopping channels would go under... lol) The gemstones I have ordered from JTV have all been pretty good... EXCEPT for the loose diamonds. Those were HORRIBLE. Even for the low price. The diamond jewelry has been hit or miss. Their colored stones, however, never cease to impress... maybe that's just me, though.

i don't know but i suppose it could come under false advertising, especially if you were promised a certain light play that didn't actually occur in some light setting that you could reproduce at home. i guess that's the out...there is at least one light source at your location that will show the stone as you saw it in the studio. so from that perspective it is not fraud. at least not the kind you can sue over
again, it's kinda more like a woman wearing makeup and a push up bra
here's another hint to seeing the colored light switch off. i saw it at least once tonight, so they're still doing it.
watch as they switch off stones, from one type to another. usually chamagne or tanzanite to say, emeralds or something else that doesn't require red light.
watch the turntable. they were slow on the uptake, and cheryl was showing the new stone, and blam, suddenly you could see them flip the switch, it was a flash followed by a very perceptible change in the color tone of the white turntable. it was white under both lights, but the first had a different hue and the second was entirely different. sort of like a soft green tone, you'd never notice it unless you saw the click/flash. white seems white, until you contrast it against something else. few things are pure white so you don't notice the lighting you just know it's white. but when you actually observe the light switch, you really start noticing it

I can tell you from having been there....
Only white lights are used in the studio...period.
Sometimes you will see a reflection from a man's tie or like stated before, a sweater, but it is coincidental and unplanned. Show hosts are even asked not to wear certain items because of this occurance.
