If anyone is interested, the Osmonds are going to be on Oprah tomorrow. There's suppose to be about 100 Osmonds there.
I'm going to tape the show & watch it later.

This goes way beyond the "show must go on"..... this is MAKING A SHOW out of a family's personal loss.
Their father's passing isn't something that the public has a pressing need to discuss..... can't the public wait (AT LEAST) a few months to see a tribute from his kids?

I don't know how far in advance Oprah's show is taped. I know Ellen DeGeneres is only a day before air time. If it was taped right after Dad died, that is downright weird. It seems almost disrespectful. However, he was very elderly and maybe he would not have wanted them to cancel...still seems strange to me.

I've been seeing promos for this show for a couple weeks, with clips of them on stage ... so it was obviously taped a while back.
They are an entertainment family, who have been around for decades. I have no problem with them doing this. Even if it is some sort of cross SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM for Donny's album or Marie on DWTS ... to me it shows a family that supports one another ... why is that bad? For me it's a nice break from the Lohans and Hiltons!

I'm sorry for the Osmonds' loss, and I don't wish them unhappiness--but I won't be watching. They never impressed me and I didn't enjoy their shows. Each to his/her own...

Bee, I just read that the Osmonds show was taped on November 8th and they will be doing a singing tribute to their father.
"Sadly, the patriarch of the Osmond family passed away on November 6, 2007. George Osmond Sr. was 90 years old."
More than 100 Osmonds had already been invited to appear on The Oprah Show, and the family decided that it was important for the show to go on. "Donny called us to say the family would be here and that this show would be in honor of their dad," Oprah says. "He also told us that they wanted this show to be a celebration of the life of his dad, so they're here today to take us on a once-in-atime trip down memory lane."
"For the first time on stage the children and grandchildren of Viril, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Jimmy and Marie sing together. The Osmonds give George Osmond a final farewell by singing the signature sign-off written by Alan for the Donny and Marie Show, a song meant to be a prayer to express the Osmonds' gratitude for their many blessings."
Osmond Family Unites on Winfrey's Show
CHICAGO (AP) — Despite the death of their patriarch, more than 100 members of George Osmond's family filmed an episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" because they thought he would have wanted it that way.
"We talked about it and my father would want us all to be here," Marie Osmond told Winfrey on the show, scheduled to be broadcast Friday. "He loved his family."
George Osmond planned to travel to Chicago to tape the show before he died Tuesday at age 90 at his home in Provo, Utah, Marie Osmond told Winfrey in a transcript provided by Harpo Productions.
George Osmond had nine children, 55 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. His wife, Olive, died in 2004.
"Isn't it interesting how two people can raise a family in show business — nine children — and we still love each other," son Donny Osmond told Winfrey.
Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay Osmond first became famous as The Osmond Brothers, a barbershop quartet singing at Disneyland and on "The Andy Williams Show." Donny Osmond joined the group at age 6 and later hosted "The Donny and Marie Show" with his sister. The youngest son, Jimmy Osmond, is also a performer.
Marie Osmond is also a contestant on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."
-----
It does sound as if Oprah & the family were interested BEFORE he passed away.
That's show business.... someone is involved in a project (Marie, in this case) & they promote it on as many talk or entertainment shows as possible.
They're not doing anything any other celebrity doesn't or wouldn't do if they had the chance.

I have never really been a fan, but I have always respected them for maintaining a close family life despite the show business pressures. Considering that Michael Jackson and Donny were direct competitors back in the day and when you look at how their families changed, I guess Mr. and Mrs. Osmond did have the right idea.

Not sure if Oprah collects dolls (I seem to have a vague memory that she has a penchant for them) & good for Marie if she can "plug" her dolls.
It did indeed show a very remarkable likeness to Oprah so I am sure it was much appreciated & genuinely thought as a very nice gesture. It's dress had pale blue trim/ribbons but green would have been a better choice since that is the favourite colour of O. (or the colour purple)
Nothing came off shamelessly. It was a nice family show/tribute and was probably planned way in advance of the Father's untimely death.
Yeah, they could have cancelled the show but the family gave it some thought and agreed that "the show will go on"
They aired nice family group photos and family video as well. Lack of respect does not come to mind.

Yes, I saw that. You would think he would have straightened out after that. He had said in a more recent interview that he's clean now, but I don't believe it. His mind is gone. I heard his sister, Dawn Lyn, remarried & moved to Hawaii.

It was refreshing to hear Donny talk about the girl fans, and the fact that he didn't believe in pre-marital sex. You don't hear that from anybody anymore. It seems like alot of male singers try and get what they can while they are hot. The family values that Mormons have could benefit alot of families. You wouldn't have to worry about DNA tests, or who the baby's daddy is. Lots of sorrows are caused by lack of morals and values.

I agree. And I like the way he wasn't shy about saying that on TV for everyone to hear. Did you hear what he said to his wife? Something about how good-looking his wife is & if they weren't married, he'd ask for her number. Even though I'm sure he knew he was going to say that from the beginning, it was still very nice of him to say that. I'm sure his wife loves hearing him say that.
Marie's oldest son sure is tall. He's a good-looking guy, too.
I hope all the Osmonds don't live around the same area, otherwise, they have to be careful about dating one of their cousins. Ha-Ha.

I thought it was a great show and I got weepy too Sammy. It was so nice to see that family all together. They are clearly a close family.
The boys started singing to pay for hearing aids for their two older brothers. That is how the whole Osmond mania started.
I was such a HUGE Donny fan, posters of him all over my room and Go Away Little Girl playing on my little record player. I remember my mom driving me and my friends to Syracuse in the 70's to see their concert. I think I screamed the entire time. LOL Good times!!!!!

I'm not really sure who won. Your boy Leif wussed out at the beginning, Some of the guys like Stephen Baldwin and Fransceso Quinn were injured and couldn't do the finale. Out of all the contestants I thought that little Jonny Fairplay did the best...but the other celebrities were good too.

I've been in love with Donny Osmond ever since the 70's when I stalked him back to his motel after a concert and got him to autograph me a tshirt. He was such a doll then and he still is. Sad to hear that they have now lost both parents.
