View Full Version : Can you believe all the "gift" shows"

Come on, Q, give us a break. There has been nothing but Christmas gift shows since Halloween. I, for one, would like to enjoy Thanksgiving before I even think of buying/decorating for Christmas. Perhaps the dreaded drop in sales has struck the world's largest on-line retailer just like the local bricks and mortar ones. Methinks they push too much.

I agree. And a lot of that stuff is just trinkets with no where to put them after Xmas is over. I'm trying to downsize & get rid of stuff I never use.

I hate QVC at this time of year ... everything is a gift show. Power washers ... a great gift! Nose hair trimmers ... a great gift! I much prefer the ShopNBC jewelry as gifts thank you very much!

It isn't just QVC, the entire retail world is trying to push Christmas early on us. Give it up, with the price of oil and the housing crisis, people are not going to have any more money to spend now than in December. And like the previous posters, a power washer or nose hair clipper is sure not what I consider a Christmas present!

Oh Bee dont forget the key chain that lights up. Everyone should have one. Buy 9 or 10 and keep them in your gift drawer wrapped and ready for the unannounced company who shows up with gifts for you and your entire family ;-)

I don't remember them having almost every single show all about gifts in years past. This year it's nonstop! I suspect they figure with gas prices shoppers aren't interested in straying too far from home for the gift shopping. I have two SuperTargets less than 15 mins. away from my house! LOL
I'm happy to watch PM or AM Style because it's a relief that it's something other than stocking stuffers and what not.

I'm giving a bunch of keychains as gifts this year, but not from QVC. This is the one I'm stocking up on:

"Gift drawer". I love it when they say that. Ugh. Who has a "gift drawer"?
I have a junk drawer, but certainly not a "gift drawer".

It all starts earlier and earlier every year. I noticed today that one of my neighbors put their Christmas lights up already, while I've got the remnants of a jack o lantern in my yard. Maybe we should just combine everything into one mega holiday...

What is most annoying this time of year is the name of the show. It gives no hint as to what the show is about. "Gifts for Her", "Gifts for Him", "Under the Tree", "Great Gifts", "Practical Gifts", and on and on.

I have a junk drawer too Shaunac, wonder if it would be tacky to wrap up all that junk and hand that out to guests?
Do you remember last year when JRT suggested we shoppers buy a Dooney purse for our children's teachers? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah right. I am on it.

I think the worst thing is that imitation diamond ring keychain. The host wants you to buy a million of those big, ugly things to hand out to friends, etc. I think they'd end up in the garbage.

I know what you mean. We still have a few little pumpkins & gords (sp?) on our front porch & there's a few neighbors who have up Xmas decorations already. It looks funny because we've been having warm weather & there's still a lot of beautiful Fall leaves on the trees.

I would much prefer neighbors like yours who at least took them down and put them up early. People in these parts LEAVE THEM UP ALL YEAR 'ROUND. If you can believe that. I hate that. It makes the neighborhood look bad and their house as well.

Yea, one of my friends next door neighbor leaves their Winnie the Pooh Santa Claus up on the roof year round. It's tacky but then again it kind of fits in with the assorted junked cars and general trailer park ambience of the place...fun!

Several years ago, a neighbor still had their Christmas tree up in their living room window with the drapes open & the tree lit. And it was sometime during the first week of February!

I'd like to remind you all that there was "Christmas in July" on both QVC and HSN this summer...complete with ribbon/paper sets and lighted trees. I'm so sick of these "Perfect Presents" shows everywhere that I could spit! What does it say to someone when you give them a hair care kit...it implies that you think their mane is a mess! I'm shopping locally for Christmas...very little gas expense, and no shipping and handling!

Is anyone watching the Modern Soul Show? I love Modern Soul but they keep giving the models these props to hold while modeling - the one model was given some small nail file and so she stood there filing her nails while they talked about her and then Lisa added (probably cause she was prompted to) mentioned the nail file, the other model was given so glowing pen and she was scribbling on a pad of paper and again Lisa and to draw everyone's attention to the pen she was holding! GIVE IT A REST! God its like they are on "riddlin" (SP) I have cut sooooo far back on my gift giving so none of these shows are trilling me at all!

WHY NOT just contact a reliable charity organiztion and contribute monies to acquiring a cow, chickens, sheep, etc for a poor family/community in a third world country to help the community be able to feed/clothe itself!

I do this every year at www.heifer.org.
I don't have the budget for large livestock but I've done chicks, rabbits, and guinea pigs, as well as "shares of" sheep and cows.
This year I'm giving bee hives.

ITA! Retailers and shopping channels for YEARS have been shoving Christmas down our throats, by July. QVC starts with the Christmas in July shows. Heck, I want to get thru summer first! This is starting to have a negative response with the public, and the lack of retail sales this year. I'm spending less this Christmas and decided to have a less stressful holiday.

O M G-a caller sent David a box of Mrs. Prindable's for his birthday. Shoppers send gifts to the hosts? No offense, but (IMO) that's INSANE!

I can believe some little old lady shopper sent David a gift - if you listen to the phone calls, most of the Q's customers these days are lonely senior citizens who really think the hosts care and are their friends. David has always struck me as a genuinely nice person, he must be embarassed by someone doing that.

I saw that. I think a lot of lonely, older ladies do that. They probably come to think of him as their "son".
I know this isn't the point, but DV gets samples for free anyway.
He probably feels bad for these ladies who have stuff sent to him.

I just think of all the charities begging for stuff this time of year. He probably would have been pleased as punch, to use a phrase I can imagine him uttering, to have received a note that said "Your yum-yum face inspired me to send a box of Mrs. Prindables to the kids at our local homeless shelter."
