Happy New Year DK. Six hours to go here. There are lots of people lighting up fire crackers everywhere. We were at a big plaza this afternoon and someone lit up one and threw it in the middle of it. It was pretty loud. The kids got scared. I thought it was a bomb or something. I guess I am not used to the local customs here.
They also eat lots of fried donuts, filled apple, cream etc donuts. I had to try them because everyones buying them. All the shops are selling them. They are good but greasy.
Anyway, Happy New Year Everyone.

Happy New Year to everyone. Imee, my sister lives in a resort town on the west coast of England. They have seven miles of prom and they sell those fried donuts everywhere along the prom. Have to agree, they are so good and I'm not a lover of anything fried...except maybe fish and chips.

Happy New Year, Ladies....
Hey, Imee... I'm looking at the Amsterdam aerial view on MSN Live earth... What an interesting looking city... I love how some places have solid buildings all around the large blocks, and an open green courtyard in the middle...

Yeah, it is very interesting how the city looks from the air. Amazing how they've claimed so much land from the sea. I've read somewhere they are going to claim more sometime soon.

It is passed midnight here. Can't sleep because neighbors are still lighting their fireworks. Seems like every block is having a party and lighting their pool of firework. I went out to say Happy New Year to people outside. My block is having a coffee party outside. Everyone seems to out there. I only know a couple of them. Seems like its very dangerous because I can hear the firework particles hitting the windows. Making me nervous a bit.

Happy New Year all.
We are getting ready for the babysitter to arrive. Then off to our friends house for a little party and then the wedding at 12:01am. It will be nice. The bride and groom have a friend who is ordained and able to marry them so he will be doing the ceremony. He is marrying another friend of ours in July.
We had the bachlorette party last night. Went out for Pizza, then bowling and then to a wine bar. What party animals we are. But the company was the best part. Lots of memories of the younger days.

Happy New Year LMR and all!
We're staying in - just having crab, shrimp, fruit, bread and cheeses, etc..
Never have like going out this night...roads are too crazy!
Eeek, imee, I wouldn't like fireworks hitting my house either! Boy, you sure wouldn't get away with that in the States! LOL
We've always done fireworks on New Year's Eve, until tonight. It's just too dry...I hope our neighbors feel the same way and don't burn down the forest : (

I think we will take a page from Kelly's book....
Do the count down at 8:59... Blow the noise makers, toast the new year, and rest up for the football games tomorrow... Cotten Bowl goes off at 10:30 CST tomorrow... Ick... That is just too early! We will record it... And I will continue to not watch, cause I'm a jinx, I'm sure of it!

I just spoke with my sister in the UK. The New year is in full swing. She had a house full, sounded like everyone was having fun. We are going out tonight, but not until around 9. I kinda wish I was staying home, but I'm sure once I get out I will have fun.

<<<<What are you having, Portia?>>>>
We had a mushroom appetizer (hubby's recipe) cooked in a cast iron skillet with garlic, butter, merlot, and seasonings. Frico's (my turn) -- basically baked shredded parmesan baked until crispy. Caesars's salad with my homemade dressing. Rib steaks cooked on the grill (hubby again) with garlic and parsley butter. Baked sweet potatoes (my turn again) with butter, brown sugar, cinnaman, nutmeg and a glug of Captain Morgan's rum. Everything was perfect -- especially hubby. Even after over 35 years, I still think he's great. Tomorrow is roast pork -- I'm Hungarian and I still have to have pork on January 1 -- I remember my mother saying it's good luck because pigs go forward and you shouldn't have chicken because they scratch backwards(???) I don't know if I believe all that but why take chances.

LOL, I loved your post and some of those old country wives tales or whatever you'd call them. I'd never heard that one before, but I'm not Hungarian. Your NY's Eve dinner sounds wonderful and the pork tomorrow does too. Must be warm where you're at, there'll be no grilling outside here for at least 3 or 4 mos.
We're just having left over spaghetti and will most likely fall asleep in front of the TV like we always do. Hubby's already out for the night.
Everyone have a Happy New Year and I hope all your teams win if they're playing in a bowl game this year.
A healthy and happy 2008 to all of you and your loved ones!

I had a good New Year.
The wedding was beautiful. The family room at the house was decorated in silver and blue with white twinkling Christmas lights and they got married in front of the fireplace. It was beautiful. The bride wore a bluish/greyish color dress. Having had a previous marriage and children she did not think it was necessary to wear white or even ivory. She looked stunning. Her daughters were going to give her away but decided that they would be better standing down at the "alter" and wait for her to come down with her brother. They cried, I cried, everyone was crying. It was just beautiful.
January 1st - gotta love a new beginning!
I sat on my balcony last night and watched the works. Gorgeous.
January also marks a year since I adopted Macy.
Have a good one all!
P.S. Any resolutions anyone wants to share? I am beginning a yoga class next week. :)
The wedding sounds perfectly enchanting! I love weddings and the feeling one gets when you witness them.
Best of luck and love to the couple!

DK, I think I'm done doing resolutions. I never seem to keep to them.
I DO want to try and lose a little weight. Nothing drastic, just a little weight for health reasons.
I quit smoking some months ago, but maybe go back to that??..haha...I'm just joking on that.
Maybe do some volunteer work this year, but will wait til Spring.
Oh, the wedding sounds wonderful, Butterfly! Thanks for sharing.
We were in bed about 10:30 - first time we haven't stayed up. But we've both had colds since Christmas...
Anyway, it's nice to have a New Year's Day, without a bit of a hangover. lol
Yoga is a great resolution, DK!
Mine is to walk no less than an hour each day (in the forest). Plus about a dozen other things that I've resolved to do (and haven't) for the last twenty years..lol
BTW, who is Macy?

I've never heard that description before although we've always had pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day. I knew what the sauerkraut was for, but not the pork. thanks for that!
Happy New Year, everyone!

It was a nice night. Rather cold though. Same today. rather cold and a bit windy.
The kids go back to school tomorrow. They are dreading it, I am looking forward to it.
I think I may rearrange the furniture in the living room. Start the new year off with a new furniture arrangement. Just not sure. Right now I am trying to fix the kids computer. They somehow messed up their internet explorer and now cannot get online. so I am bouncing back and forth from the lap top to their computer doing what microsoft tells me to do.
Have a good evening all.
Macy is my cat and my true buddy.
:)
Have a good hump day all!
