View Full Version : Kathy Van Zeeland seems bored with her own items

Every time I watch her, she seems indifferent and "flat." Sometimes I even find her snobby. She has no "oomph" or personality. I also think that her bags are way overpriced for vinyl. I bought one once and it weighed a ton before I even put anything in it. Gave it to Goodwill. I've seen her bags cheaper in Macy's, Marshall's and TJ Maxx.
I love her bags but only buy them through Marshalls or Ross. They are so cheap! She seems young & hip but I never really watch her on QVC. I never but bags from then as they are usually a lesser version of the designer's yet still overpriced. I would buy from a flee market knockoff for that quality as it cost so much less.

I agree with you. I've watched her several times & it seems like she has no interest in her own handbags. It's like someone pulled her on stage & asked her to try & sell something she had no interest in. I can barely hear her because she talks so softly. You'd think QVC would ask her to speak up & smile & act like the bags are the greatest.
She probably has to put all those heavy purse charms & hardware on the bags or else the bags would look like vinyl junk from Wal-Mart.
I've also seen them at Marshall's & TJ Maxx for about 1/2 the price.
I'm pretty sure she loves her own items. She probably just doesn't like being on QVC. Some business advisor or lawyer probably told her it made good business sense to do it so she's doing it. She needs to learn to act like she's enjoying herself, though.

I think it's simply her personality. She is low key and perhaps even a little shy. It's just her particular demeanor.

I think she loves her products! She does seem a little shy to me also. Does her husband have a handbag line also?

I just can't get past the smell in her purses. The plastic from china has a foul chemical smell. I bought one from QVC and smelled some from Ross. (I tried to mask the smell, but no luck)

To me she seems uncomfortable in front of the camera. I don't care for all the stuff on her bags, but she has a huge following. I think she loves what she does, but she seems as if she would rather be behind the scenes.

I agree with Hershey, she seems to have a quiet personality. Also, I caught part of the show when a caller said she had found one of her bags in a shop (consignment or thrift shop) and bought it for $2.00 and it had $4.00 cash inside it. I thought that was pretty funny considering how expensive they are on QVC. They are not my taste and so I am happy to see them on to give my credit card a break.

I bet Kathy wasn't too happy to hear that her bag was found in a thrift shop for $2. She probably didn't like that caller mentioning that on TV either.
Kathy really should show a little enthusiasm. Maybe not as much as Joy's Mangano's enthusiasm, but speaking louder & a smile or 2 would probably help sales even more. She needs coaching on how to sell.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that caller saying she found a KVZ bag in a thrift store, nor was there anything for KVZ to be unhappy about. Thrift store goods are mostly used. That's a lot different from a new one.
What KVZ should be unhappy about is someone calling in to say they found the same bag from this season at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for half the price and paid no S&H. Now that would be bad and it could happen at any time because it's true. And they are at Macy's for retail but are often on sale plus there are s in the paper over the weekends, and again no S&H charges. Anyone who pays full price for those bags on QVC plus the S&H is nuts.

I know. To hear a caller mention that she picked up one of her bags for a couple of bucks was pretty funny. The caller probably shouldn't have mentioned that.
Kathy should watch Cherie Christmas. She does so well when she's on. Talking with the callers, voice intonations and such.
Maybe she's just modest, and shy. When she was on the other day, the host mentioned how Kathy had never designed a bag with a signature crest originally because "self SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM" wasn't her style. Kathy chimed in and said she only ended up doing them because customers were asking for them. I don't remember which host it was, maybe it was Lisa Mason?
I got the impression that Kathy is a reluctant saleswoman, and as others have mentioned, loves designing, but doesn't feel quite at home in front of the camera.

Maybe she'll eventually hire someone to be the spokesperson for her on QVC.

I work in a store that now carries the Kathy bags.
I have to say that they are not only pricey, but WAY too blingy for most people's taste. I own one, only b/c I love pink, but even with my discount it was far more than I'd normally spend for a handbag that's not even real leather.

Blingy is a nice way to describe her bags...

Then you should have shopped for one at TJ Maxx or Marshall's, where they have this season's KVZ bags at least half off. I've never seen a KVZ bag at either place for more than $39.99 and some are $34.99 or even $29.99. And although they have some from last season, they also have many from this season, including ones presented on QVC. Or you should have shopped at Macy's where there are continual sales and also s on the weekends for additional $$$ off.
