A jeweler once told me that cz's were worth about 5 or 6 dollars. He was old and was mainly talking about the cz's of old but I have always wondered if that were true, why QVC and other shopping venues charge such prices when gold is not involved. It is true that labor does go into putting the stones in each piece but I still think that they are way overpriced. What do you all think? And, anything bathed in platinum or gold will eventually wear off will it not? Again, overpriced?????

It all depends on your point of view. If you don't have the dollars to spend on a large diamond piece set in gold but like the look, QVC's prices are probably reasonable. Gold and silver prices are at their highest levels in over 25 years so they use that as an excuse to raise their prices. Some people only want the "real thing" even if they can't afford it so to those people the prices are exorbitant. To each his own I guess.

I don't understand why the stones always fall out of Diamonique rings. If you read the reviews on rings, several people always write about the stones falling out. If they are mounted in gold or silver the setting should withstand the same wear as a ring purchased in a jewelry store. I had a ring of 5 or 7 marquie stones in epithany silver totaling around 1 carat and one of the stones fell out. When I called CS they offered to repair the ring but I asked for a credit. The platinum did not wear off but I only had the ring a few months and didn't wear it daily.
To answer your question, I can't understand either the reason for DMQ (especially in silver) being so expensive. And it's not even high quality labor IMO.

Diamonique stones don't "always fall out of Diamonique rings." What a wide and sweeping generalization you are making based on some posts you've read. I've owned Diamonique jewelry for many, may years - rings, earrings, bracelets, etc. but mostly rings that get quite knocked around on my hands. I've never ever had a Diamonique stone fall out of any piece of jewelry. So no, they don't "always" fall out.

I have had Diamonique for almost 20 years, and worn it on a daily basis. The only time I ever had a stone fall out was when I hit my hand very hard against the door frame of the car and the stone flew out. I looked for it for over an hour, but it was gone. I took the ring to my local jeweler, they measured the other stones and put a matching one back in. It cost $15.00 to replace that one stone. To this day, I could not tell you which stone was replaced. I am hard on my jewelry, so have to say that Diamonique has held up well for me.

Diamonique holds up but don't expect to get your cost back if you ever decide to sell it. If it is set in gold, that is valuable but the stone itself is not worth much more then a rhinestone.

Don't get me wrong. I love the diamonique settings and if I were getting married or had a relative getting married, I would steer them toward diamonique. You get a lot of look for much less than a diamond. I just think it odd that they go on and on about the stone when it is the setting with the stone that makes it so attractive. The price of small diamonds in gold is through the roof so diamonique is the best alternative., And, you get to wear so many different styles if you choose. It is just funny to know how cheap the cz stone actually is.

QVC (and the others for that matter) are only charging what the market will bear. Be it DMQ, Blue Topaz, Amethyst, etc.... they charge what they do because they can and people still buy.
Not until people stop buying will the prices come down (and people do buy - by the thousands). Just my opinion.....

Hear Hear.......Let's go on strike. Viva la lower prices......If we are going into deeper recession, perhaps the prices will come way down.......and they could offer one month free healthcare with each purchase......

Has anyone bought silver from Inspiredsilver.com? I've gone on the site and they have some really beautiful things. One is the pear shaped diamond (simulated) earrings like Oprahs. They also have a section where you can get recreations of the red carpet/stars jewelry...
