I find it so cool that both the view and live touched on things that we have been talking about here yesterday and this morning; civil unions/marriage gay rights and adoption and Regee bringing up the media and Obama being protected and off limits.

And I actually enjoyed the girls on the view talking civilly about this issue.

BTW, Joy is not there again today.

What do they mean, "Obama is off limits".... ?

I've noticed.

I don't know how I feel about Sherrie's comment though because I am bi and I have gay best friends so I struggle with her comment.

Joy has been kinda of annoying me a lot lately too.

Kind of like the chris matthews thread and the comment on live about Obama being perfect and flawless and there being is no material there.

which comment irish?

I remember her talking about her friends who are a gay couple and her seeing both issues and being conflicted because of their rights and her Christianity.

Is that the one that you are talking about?

Exactly Jules, I say stop protecting him and just treat him like everyone else. Why does he continue to get special treatment? It is doing nothing but building resentment. Let him be a man. No one is perfect.

The way everyone tippytoes around him it kinda makes him seem arrogant that he's above jokes being made about him. I'd like to see him more like McCain and able to take a good jibing about himself. I saw a glimpse of that in him at the Alfred Smith (?) dinner, and I kinda liked it. To me, it's kinda leaving him out by not teasing him about himself. Come on, I think the guy can take it. It's not being kind by treating him with kid gloves. Am I making any sense?

It made perfect sense to me, as much as I like him I would like to see that just so I know he's not getting special treatment.

I didn't think I cared too much for McCain but I changed my mind later on because he really does seem to have a warm heart, I was thinking about it last night.

But yea it makes sense to me. :)

There's always a bit of a "honeymoon" period with any new President.

It will end soon enough when President Obama has to begin making some tough decisions. There is no way that he will be able to make everyone happy about everything he does and the press will be reporting on it. If they didn't, it would make them all look like Chris Matthews.

It would even destroy their credibility with each other.

I certainly heard or could decipher in Obama's speech last Tuesday night that the tone he set was one of warning ... difficult times ahead due the serious economic current situation and that would call for difficult measures and hard work ahead with sacrifices.

I saw it. I thought it was interesting debate on the whole gay marriage thing. I am personally for Gay Marriage and really don't see anything wrong with it. I however understand other people have different views and believe marriage is between a man and a woman, and I can understand that. The religious aspect of it.

However what I don't like about the whole civil union thing is that if a persons lover dies, then that family member or whoever can come and take whatever they want away. To me that is not right at all. I think they need to do something there with civil union and fix it, I mean it just doesn't seem fair to me in that aspect of it.

samEqualityKat

It should be a matter of equality.

Marital (hetro and/or gay) spouses should without question be entitled to spousal benefits (pension, social security, benefits + ...etc.)

Mandy
11-07-2008, 02:37 PM
I agree, Sam.

Even though I am usually very conservative in my views, I have always thought that marriage between any couple is their right and privilege. I don't see who is being hurt by gay couples being protected financially the same as anyone else.

I don't think that religious beliefs should be legislated. I am also pro-life, but that is not because of religious reasons.

samCivilKat
11-07-2008, 02:52 PM
The constitution should provide equal rights for all individuals.

& a clear separation of church & state.

Equal rights for all individuals.

Not everyone who gets married wants a religious ceremony.

& not everyone who gets married chooses to do so in a church and / or an organized religious institution by a religious leader.

For example, civil marriage licenses.

Okay; I'll live dangerously here and admit I voted yes on Prop 8. I don't really care what you do, but I think marriage is between a man and a woman. JMO

RE: Joy...I'm one who can tolerate her okay, but even I've noticed how much nicer it is without her there.

As I said before I think it's not fair to say you can't marry someone you love, as I am bi sexual and I have gay and lesbian best friends.

Two of my lesbian friends are and engaged two of them are already married so it's everyone's right to beleive that

If that's you beleif it's fine but not mine I just think it's discriminatory kinda like saying no to interracial couple know what I mean? JMO

Melissa says since she is not considered a full citizen then she should not have to fully pay her state taxes.

It is wrong to make someone pay full taxes and not give them the same rights.

She will hang on to her buck$ instead of handing over the cash to the state of CA and went on further to say that she will be talking to her friend Ellen about it as she makes gallizion$ that she pays taxes on as well.

A recession.

Hell no. We're gay !!

I don't think you can compare gay marriage to interracial couples that are still a man and a woman. Not even close.

Like I said it's just my feeling but you're prolly right again it's just my opinion, I dont know i'd be pretty sad if my two friends whom are engaged never go to get married unless they can find somewhere else that accept gay marriages you know?

I don't understand why some are so hung up on semantics... Call it a spousal union, call it anything but 'marriage', but give the partners the same privileges under the law and same responsibilities under the law of a married couple...

That's my solution... If equality under the law is what they want, that would do it... If they just want something to say they 'have' it, then shame on them...

;0))

I am all for civil unions for our gay citizens. They should have all the rights straight people have. As far as personal wealth, most of that can be handled with a Will. Even Living Wills allow you to name anyone you wish to speak for you.

My pet peeve is showing man-man and woman-woman love scenes on mainstream television. My favorite soap is All My Children and, I'm sorry, I don't want to see two girls kissing and gropping like they have shown this week (Bianca got engaged). I also like Brothers and Sisters and seeing two men kissing and gropping bothers me as well. I have no problem with the gay lifestyle but I don't understand the need to push it in our faces. I think children should learn about homosexuality since it seems a large number of our population are gay, but I don't think it's necessary to indoctrinate them when they are under ten years old. I'm not anti-gay - my husband and I both have family (cousins) who are gay. I also love my interior decorator and his partner but, when they come over, they aren't kissing and gropping and when we go to their place, neither do we.

But ... to think that gay people NEVER kiss, or hold hands ...or have sex ... is silly. Seeing gay characters kiss (or have sex scenes) in their home on a tv show IMO, isn't pushing it in your face. It is simply ... a fact of life. Gay people are in the mainstream of life and showing gay characters kiss in the privacy of their home (on tv) seems plausible.
