I understand there is a map sharing feature on the TomTom. Not sure if that's a common feature on all GPSs. I am still in the market for top of the line, but reasonably priced. My understanding is that people can share new routes with others by logging it on Map Share. What if people intentionally or unintentionally put in the incorrect directons? I don't know if that's possible, but that would make me a bit nervous. Anyone know? Also, any recommendations for 4.3" with lots of bells and whistles w/o breaking the bank?

That is certainly a concern isnt it, people giving false routes.
I'd be just as worried about the default information as well.
I live in the area James Kim died in. Remember him? His wife and two children got stuck in the hills out of Grants Pass? It was around Thanksgiving a year or two ago and he was following "mapquest" directions and didnt pay attention to "quickest route", "shortest route", and "seasonally closed roads".
I believe most GPS programs are quite similar but unfortunately dont prompt the user for dangerous conditions.
Its my experience that the information provided with your new unit is all you're going to need.

Thanks, Muscles. I appreciate the feedback. Something to think about.

Here's my worry about purchasing a GPS system--my eyes are not perfect. I wear glasses. The screens on those systems are 4" in size. How am I going to be able to read one while driving? Pulling off, especially on an interstate, isn't always an option...

Barbi: They have speech in most GPS units. You wouldnt need to pull over, you would just listen to the verbal directions that are given. You would program the GPS unit before you would leave the house for your destination.

I was wondering if one could input the destination address, etc. in the house, and then when you get in the car, it would start giving direction, but think David Venable said last night that you have to do it outside so that the satilite can detect your system.

Depends on the system and a number of other conditions. I can sometime get GPS signal inside a building.

For anyone who has one how much was it? I'm just curious. It seems to be the way to go these days.
