Protestor throws shoe at Bush while at a news conference in Iraq.

Wired PR News.com – President George W. Bush was forced to dodge not one, but two shoes unexpectedly thrown at him during a news conference in Iraq. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a protestor yelled “This is a farewell kiss, you dog!” in Arabic as he threw two shoes at the president which were said to miss his head before hitting the wall behind him.

The protestor was stated to be Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Iraqi-owned, Cairo based Al-Baghdadia television. During his speech, the unpopular Bush declared “The war is not over… it is decisively on its way to being won” and that “There is still more work to be done” before the shoes were thrown. The act in Iraqi culture symbolizes disapproval, which is identified as a common attitude about the president felt around the world. The protestor was detained after the incident.

Bush’s Sunday trip was initially kept a secret, with White House officials releasing false details about plans for the president in Washington.

I thought it was interesting when Bush was interviewed by Charlie what'shisname, and Bush said he will leave office with his head held high. I guess he doesn't want people to think he is leaving with any compunction about the war, and that he did an outstanding job as president. Personally, I didn't vote for him and am glad to see him leaving the white house, albeit I have reservations about the president elect. Oh well....time will tell.

I saw the shoe event live!

I am so proud to say that I never cast a vote for Bush, not in a primary and not in an election. I don't think he can help himself--I think he was just born with a certain intelligence potential, and he is just dumb. Stupid. Thick. It is the American public who not only elected him to office--but who saw him in action and then re-elected him to a second term...they are to blame.

I agree with Paula and Curvi. I do think Bush has earned the criticism he receives, but at the same time I don't (could never) wish him harm and am happy the guy didn't pull out a gun.
