You know it might well be a rerun because I heard them going on about the blueberry stones last week.

Like I said in the other thread, I have never really liked tanzanite and dark blue stones have never been my favorite anyway, so they can call it any name they want and it won't make me buy it.

But I wanted to add to the my favorite gemstone post in the other thread.

You know how ametrine is half yellow and half purple
and watermelon tourmaline is half green and half watermelon pink

I once scored the craziest little tanzanite. It was about a carat and some. I can't even remember any more.

It's half green and half blue. It's absolutely insane! One of my most favorite stones I have ever encountered in my life. Just irreproducible

Well, if that was a rerun, is is rerunning again and that was the worst round stone I have seen, not the least bit round. I can imagine how bad the parcels are and prices on them are SO low, they keep finding NEW, BETTER, Gem dealers, who have MUCH better material. HA HA HA

It sounds like Green Zoisite.

Ametrine is a combination of two colors of quartz. Heat and pressure causes the change in color as it grows.

Tanzanite is really Blue Zoisite, a mineral that comes in only two colors, (Blue and Green).
So, you could possibly have the Ametrine equilivant of Zoisite.

I can't remember which thread it was in. BUt, I'll reproduce the discussion here

basically one of the other posters asked what was up with all the unusual colored tanzanite on JTV's website. Some were under the impression that this might be a new marketing ploy.

The respoonse wsa that it was not, and tanzanite was characterized as being one of the stones in the class zoisite.

It was pointed out that most tanzanite before it is heated is an ugly brown color sometimes referred to as baby poop brown. Some of it before heating has streaks of unusual color including green. After heating sometimes the unusual colors will stay in the stone

It was pointed out that zoisite comes from a lot of countries and comes in a variety of colors and qualities but that tanzanite can only come from Tanzania - according to a vast majority of gemologists.

The additional response was that there is a huge debate about the name tanzanite vs zoisite for anything that isn't specifically from tanzania and violet blue vs other colors. Then it was pointed out that unusual colored zoisite/tanzanite had come out in a variety of names over the years. Some of those names included ocean tanzanite/zoisite, metamoric tanzanite/zoisite, blue green tanzanite/zoisite, yellow tanzanite/zoisite, fancy tanzanite/zoisite and most recently, chameleon tanzanite

No opinion was provide as to what the precise name of stones from tanzania should be called if they aren't specifically perfect blue violet - tanzanite vs zoisite.

Then it was said that the green tanzanite on jtv's site is not the coolest green ever but that out there exist a few websites that specialize in the odd colored tanzanites/zoisites.

There was reference made to lapigems.com as a website people could look at to see a few other examples to compare to jtvs samples.
it was then said that there was no endorsement made as to the reliability of the website or the safety of buying from them.

Based on conventional wisdom, my stone having been mined in Tanzania, displaying significant blue violet as the primary color in the stone, gets to be allowed the name Tanzanite. Although a perfect tanzanite at one end, the opposite end of the emerald stone tapers into a green color much the same way as the ametrine colors taper into opposite ends of the stone. It's a cool stone. I don't think I will ever see anything like it elsewhere. Most of the fancy zoisites that have these unsual shades contain the colors in a blended inconsistent but interesting effect. This one is about 2/3 tanzanite blue purple and 1/3 green. The color demarcation is completely obvious as if the green poured out of the blue end. The two separate colors are unmistakeable.

It's just fascinating

It's become one of my faves!
