I was wondering if the feeders attract ants?

Purrchance, they do attract ants, but I've put lard around the hook that holds the feeder, and it seems to stop the ants. Good Luck!!!

There is a good website www.hummingbirds.net that tracks the path of the migration of the birds. It's fun to watch the site as the birds fly north for the season.

It's a bit too early here in Hoosierville. The hummers don't appear until sometime in April.

Ain't that the truth?!
I ALWAYS attracted bees -- then I would get swormed. They've come out of the ground -- out of nests -- I was the most paranoid person you ever saw. When I was young and I'd be playing outside, I'd play close to the door, in case I had to run inside. I could never leave my car windows down -- dozens would try to get in -- I did one day to run into the store -- when I came out, my seat was crawling with them.
I'm highly allergic. It took until I was into my 20's to find out why *I* attracted bee attacks... an allergist told me that people who are low in Zinc attract bees -- it sounded crazy but I started Zinc supplements -- and it worked.
I take them faithfully in the spring & summer. And I no longer have a problem.
But I have to admit, I am still a tab bit cautious. On my bus, I don't allow ANY pop cans, or candy papers, or food left in the trash. I won't take the chance.
I'm sorry -- back to hummingbird feeders.........
I LOVE hummingbirds. They're the cutest little birds.

Just an FYI here. If they were "coming out of the ground" they were yellow jackets, not bees. And they have a really nasty sting.
just curious

Aren't yellow jackets bees?

Maybe same family - but certainly not honey bees. They tend to nest in the ground and if you ever rile them up, they get real mad real quick.

Those yellow jackets are nasty creatures. We have had several nest experiences in our back yard - in the old satellite dish stand (a relic from the md-80's my husband never took down) and in some old cut up pieces of telephone poles that support a section of the yard. Once you are in their sight, they will chase you until you make shelter. I know everything has a place and a purpose in the eco-system, but I am hard-pressed to figure out what theirs is.

Gnats drive me nuts. They bite and it hurts. Never go out in the yard wearing hair spray or perfume unless you want to be their lunch.

I know what they were. And they are still considered a "bee". So is a wasps, hornets (carpenter bees), yellow jackets, the honey bee and bumble bees.
I am allergic to ALL ... including sweat bees.
But that really wasn' the point -- the point WAS that I would LOVE to have a hummingbird feeder -- BUT it just wouldn't be SWAFE for me because they attract bees (specifically bumble, honey, and sweat...)
