Bowser of Sha Na Na was hosted an ifomercial of Oldies... Dang, I was tempted...
But I came back to my senses when the Platters sang The Great Pretender...
<wink>

You didn't like The Great Pretenders? I liked just about anything The Platters did. So many songs that seemed a staple back then, but I didn't even know (or remember) who made them popular. Blue Moon was sung by so many, yet The Marcels, who sang the version I best remember, I never heard of before. Back then, when I liked those songs though, I wasn't at the age where I cared who sang it, I just liked it!
Earth Angel was another one. I don't remember The Penguins at all, do you? I haven't seen that infomercial. How many songs, and how much did they cost? I have Roy Orbison's Only the Lonely. He sang a lot of cryin' songs, didn't he? Him and Gene Pitney.

I just looked up Gene Pitney on ITunes. He did She's a Rebel. Who did the female version of He's a Rebel? THAT'S the one I remember best.

Wow, this tempts me also. When we had our 50th class reunion a classmate spent hours putting together a CD of the favorite tunes from 1955 (the stoneage I graduated in) and I play that frequently. It is so nice to be able to actually hear words and have a song tell a story.

wow...now that's a great thing your classmate did. I go to all my reunions and would love to do something like that....I wonder how much it would cost? I would have to have it done professionally (after I make the cd) we had 586 in our graduating class and we always get close to 300 attending at every reunion.

To those of you who've seen this before, sorry to post yet again, but I thought NYSitter might enjoy it if she hasn't seen it. And I believe Lavendar is an oldie lover too.
I see now you can choose either I Tunes or Rhapsody to listen to about 25 seconds of the song, back as far as in the 40's now I believe.
According to Billboard mine is "Maņana (Is Soon Enough for Me)" by Peggy Lee.
By coincidence, the song fits my Zodiac sign very well. However, I don't care for it.
I think I'll change my birth date to another song I really like.

I love all the oldies. I still have the Platters album somewhere in storage. I have a few others too. I have an old Doris Day record on slate also. I use to have one of those crank type Victrolas. I sold it years ago though. Wished I hadn't..lol
This is before most of our times, but I have an Ink Spots record somewhere in storage.
My father traveled years ago with a musical troop and he sang with a quartet and they would do the Ink Spots and many other groups. This was in the middle 30's and into the 40's.

Someone mentioned the Ink Spots once before during one of our oldie discussions, didn't they? Or I came across them when I was using the Hit Song On This Day site.
Cindyloo, my son is 28 and he loves antique record players! He has one of those stand up Victrolas in his living room. Luckily for him, his wife likes antiques too. Whenever someone goes to a swap meet or someplace where they sell old stuff, they buy him those old thick records. Surprisingly, most of them sound pretty good yet! MIL had a Victrola that she used to play for the boys when they were at the farm. When she died, she willed it to my son, but he bought one too.

That's great Mac. I love antiques too. I would love to find another Victrola. I imagine they aren't cheap though.
The one I had that I sold, this was years ago, was a find from someone who was cleaning out their barn and said, go ahead a take it, no charge. Wow..I did!
I had to clean the bird doo-doo off of it and refinish it some though. It was nice and played so well.
Along with the player was a stack of slate records. I sold them too of course, along with the player.
I can't even remember how much I got for it all.
Dang, I wished I had it back. Oh well...lol
