Enough is enough !

Canadian School Bus Driver calls police on kids !!

On Wednesday afternoon, a bus driver couldn't take the 'acting up' anymore and pulled the bus over on the side of Highway.

Seems some rowdy kids were rocking the bus from side to side and some were trying to open the emergency exit door as the big yellow bus was rolling down the roads.

It was enough to make the driver pull over to the side and call for back up.

Many students flipped open their cell phones and called their parents complaining they were being held hostage by the driver on their way home from school.

In the meantime, a new bus driver has been assigned to take over this rowdy route and also appointed a school rep to ride the bus with the students.

Btw, where are WF & Susan these days ?

It has gotten ridiculous. I remember when Chad was in middle school they would call the police when kids got into a fight. :/

I hate to say it, but I suppose that is the fallout from teachers not being able to discipline the kids the way they could with us. It sure kept us in line just knowing what they could and would do, if they had to.

I say good for that bus driver! It's disgusting the crap kids pull these days and seem to get away with too. I know I sound like the old fogie I am, but in MY day, kids were expected to obey and respect school personnel, or believe me, it would be taken care of at home. Not that I ever did anything like that, I wouldn't have dared.

That's just it; none of us dared. We were taught to respect our elders. Or else.

& I could just see the parents livid after hanging up the cell phone call 'cuz the delay is now going to ruin their plans/schedule (arriving late to sign the financing papers/contract for their teen at the new car dealership) *snark* while they curse the busdriver's antics.

Not stopping to think of the entire safety of their kids or giving any consideration of the busdriver's responsibility/duties

& of course there will be no consequences for the unruly kids.

Nope - not at all.

Good for that driver. Ted has been known to stop and just sit until they calm down and that usually works for him. He does have a seating chart and he decides where each kid sits so that keeps the trouble makers away from each other. He has taken some of them in to the Principal for discipline but never had to call the police. There is so little that the drivers can really do. they can't touch them. He has seat-belted a few of them in their seats and threatened them with their lives if they undid the belts. He has been lucky so far with parents. Of course, our buses also have cameras in them and the kids have no way of knowing if they are turned on or not. After a few parents came in and were shown the videos of what their little darlings were doing things changed in a hurry. The cameras have helped a lot.

I like the idea of the cameras on the buses.

Proof/accountability.

Do all the schoolbuses have mandatory seatbelts for each student/seat ?

I know when I took the bus in the late 69/70 - I know they weren't any.

Hey, loads of kids rode in the open backs of pickups with the family pets while parents were in the cab in front.

I know I used to ride in the back of the pickup when I was a kid. I thought it was great fun! I'm not saying they should let them now, I just mean way back then there weren't the dangers there are now. I think a lot of kids rode in the back of pickups then, & I never heard of any horrible accidents like you hear of now. I think back then vehicles didn't go as fast, and kids minded their parents more as far as not standing up, and sitting as close to the inside as possible (right behind the cab). I don't know, things just seemed simpler back then and not as dangerous.

I think it was just as dangerous back then to this day.

Same for lots of things.

No seat belts.

Smoke filled cars.

Plastic baby bottles

Lead paint

Unsafe toys/cribs

Car seats ? = lack of

Booster seats ? = non existant

Pesticides

Pregnant mommies smoking/drinking/eating large fish, etc.

(ok maybe the big fish were not filled with mercury/plastics....back then as much as today environment/pollution)

Sam, This is another of New York State's more stupid ideas. All buses have to have seat belts for each student, but they only have to be buckled if they are under age 5. the Pre-K kids are always buckled but from there on it is entirely up to the child and of course, they never buckle them. Good old New York State. Another of our stupid rules.

Our friends had 3 boys and we had 3 kids and often on a Sunday we would pack sandwiches and take a cooler for drinks, The men would ride in the cab and the two Moms, all six kids and a dog would ride in the back. We would go on some of the old dirt roads in the hills around us and just have a great time. We would laugh and point out deer in the woods and different kinds of birds. Sometimes we would see a fox or two. We would usually stop along a pretty stream where the kids could wade in the cold water and have our lunch.

Of for the simplicity of those days again. Healthy, happy family outings with good friends.

Of course you're right Sam. These things were just as dangerous back then as they are now, but they didn't know it/or didn't focus on them yet to do anything about it. My little brother (is 50 now, lol), and he was the only one my folks had any kind of car seat for, and all it was was a seat that was hooked over the front seat between my parents. No padding, plastic protection at all. Back then the cars were like tanks compared to today's cars. You had to be practically flying thru the air for a crash to kill you. Fender benders barely made a dent in 50's and 60's automobiles.

My dad would've been considered a heavy smoker by today's standards, but he didn't smoke as much as a couple of my aunts and uncles, or other couples my folks were friends with. Mom never did smoke. I've always hated smoking and being around people who smoke, esp when they're smoking. Back then it was a smoker's world. Non smokers had to put up and shut up. Dad quit smoking when our then 10 yr old son, called him crying and begging him to quit smoking, saying he didn't want him to die. At first Dad was kind of mad, thinking I'd put him up to it, but I didn't even know he did that until Mom told me. They were working on them at school from what I gathered. I didn't think my kids even noticed that Dad smoked.

When I was riding the bus (80's) there was usually the bus driver PLUS another person monitoring. I think that would great now, because he/she could personally see to the problems.

Kids these days, with their phones ... they kind of scare me! I could definitely see this bus situation getting out of control, very quickly! LOVE the camera idea. They should be on every bus!

I would comment on this thread -- but I just can't bring myself to do. I am so sick of the kids right now. Thursday is the last day - it can't come soon enough. ugh!

Oh and HI guys!!!
