I have to report to the hospital at 5:30 AM tomorrow for my last round of eye surgery. If this fails, I'll have to post my future messages in Braille.
Wish me luck!

Best wishes for a successful surgery Jacinta. My dad had eye surgery a few weeks ago so I know about the doctor visits and eye drops, etc. My dad has macular degeneration as well as bleeding behind his eye. He had to get a needle in his eye last week. Medicine has advanced a lot over the years, and they can do so much more now than years ago.

(Hmm....I wonder who this poster could really be?)
I thought to myself that when I recovered from this procedure, I'd drive to West Chester and attend one of Rick's "Meet and Greets". It seems as though they don't do them anymore. That's what life is: disappointment and illusion. Sigh!

One way or the other, it'll be a while before I'm back here. If this eye surgery is anything like my last one, the computer's monitor will be painful for me to look at for several days.

Things went well fo me today. I was in the hospital at 5:30 am and home by 9:15. Have been sleeping almost all the time. I have vision but it's blurry right now. The doctor says things went well.
My dear husband is preparing dinner for me. He says we'll dine by candlelight with Mozart in the background. (I can get to like this!)

I'm sure all went well today, but when you get to Rick's Meet and Greet, put on a big old pair of sunglasses and use it as an excuse to "Braille" Rick anyway (if you get my drift, and I'm sure you do!).
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Jacinta, you are going to meet Rick?
Tell him you're name is Helga, and you want to give him a massage.
I have a feeling he'll know exactly what you are talking about. lol
Glad everything went well for you!

Hubby outdid himself tonight: fresh gardens salad, veal scallopene, mixed vegetables, sugar-free blueberry pie, and coffee--all served out in the garden. He had the mosquito torches lit, candles on the table and Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" on the boom box. What a treat! The food was good, too!
Sadly, folks, it seems that QVC no longer has the "Meet and Greet" days.

Got back from the doctor's office a little while ago. He says I'm making excellent progress. I have to go back on Monday.
Strange thing: Dr. Rothberg has always been a very good looking man, but he's had his hair styled differently and now he looks very much like Hugh Grant.
Think of this: I have Hugh Grant taking care of my eyes and Rick Domeier monopolizing my dreams. Not bad for an old goat, right?

Well, I feel fine but my vision isn't totally back yet. I can read and cook and sew, but I have trouble with things that are a few feet away. That means I can't drive.
Thanks for all the good wishes!

Did you have cataracts in both eyes?
Jac1nta
08-20-2009, 03:37 PM
I lost vision in my right eye when I was a child. It was congenital and an extreme macular degeneration (almost everyone on my mother's side of the family was monocular but they were too stupid to realize it!). In my case, the LEFT eye was doing all the work and straining like crazy. Even the shape of the eye changed. About 2 years ago I had a sneezing fit and detached the retina in that eye. It was re-attached and I regained about 95% of my vision in that eye. Then a cataract developed in that same eye.
The surgery I had this week was to remove the cataract and get rid of the "glob" left over from the reattachment (which was causing the 5% vision loss in that eye).
One thing's certain here, I'm seeing brighter colors than I ever saw before! A brief conversation with a man wearing an orange shirt this morning had me putting my dark glasses on almost immediately. It'll take a while before I'm used to it!

Jacinta - I totally understand what you have been going through. 3 years ago, a blood vessel burst in my left eye - the eye with almost perfect vision, I was very nearsighted in my right eye. I woke up one day with most of the vision obscured in the left eye - the bleeding from the the haemorrhage caused that. I had laser surgery to repair the blood vessel when it didn't clear on it's own and then on my 18 month checkup, was told I had a cataract in that eye and then I had that surgery last year. Miserable thing to go through but I have not worn glasses since the cataract surgery. My right eye takes care of the close work and the left eye handles distance and somehow it all works. I guess there are good end results from bad things that happen to us.

Jacinta, I hope you have a great recovery from your surgery! Luckily these new lasers are so good and they have computers that track eye movement to make them more precise. I too suffered from horrible eyes, also familial, but have had some lazser procedure that have given me near perfect vision. I am still sensitive to white light, was told to never go outdoors without sunglasses. It took 6 months before my corneas came around and I could really see.
I too will be susceptible to retinal detachment. My corneas are so thin I may also someday need transplants. I pray that these procedures just continue to improve! I hope that your vision just continues to improve each passing day. I remember thinking the same thing about colors, I kept thinking , wow I must have HD vision. I don't know if it is because we had such poor vision before our procedures we did not know what it is like to actually see. Best wishes for the best vision ever! BTW my procedures where done 3 years ago!

Once again, I appreciate the good wishes.
I actually drove the car this morning. I'm home alone for a while and found that the milk in the fridge had soured. I would walk to the store, but in this heat the milk I bought would sour on the walk back. Therefore I drove. It was sunny and a straight drive from my home. Of course I was careful--I didn't even play the car radio less it distract me. I also parked away from the other cars. All went well.
The colors of the items on the grocery shelves were so bright I had to put the dark glasses on!
