Who is planning to get the flu shot this year or already has?

Do you plan to get the H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available?

Not me. I don't believe in them.

I 'might' be persuaded when I'm real old. Maybe.

I'll get the flu shot (probably this weekend) but am undecided about the H1N1 vaccine. That one makes me nervous for some reason ... ?!?

After reading Dr Oz's advice I called my dr and just went and had mine.
It was my 1st one.

I am leery about the H1N1. It is so new....what if there are still glitches to be worked out or something. Makes me nervous.

Dr. Oz....my mother's new "go to guru" scared the heck out of her the other day with the flu stuff. LOL

I got a notice from my son's school yesterday as well...said they must stay out 7 days, and any other school age siblings are to also stay home for 5 days even if they don't appear ill.

I don't think that I could have sat thru the whole show. He scared me by just reading his recommendations. lol

Dr. Oz announced five things that everyone needs in their household to prevent the swine flu. The five things he recommended are as follows:

* Basic cleaners including antibacterial wipes
* Probiotics and prebiotics such as garlic, onions, and yogurt
* Supplements including vitamin D and North American ginseng
* Emergency products including a thermometer, electrolyte replacements, surgical masks, and a month’s supply of food and pharmaceuticals
* Family members who have received the flu vaccination

I never used to get sick, but the last two years I have gotten the flu and I am debating on getting the flu shot this year- I am deathly scared of needles so I don't know, but I think I will. I love Dr. Oz!! I do take my multi, probiotics and yogurt everyday so I am following part of his list...

I get more sick when I take the shot than when I don't, so I doubt it.

I heard Dr. Oz recommend vitamin D to prevent swine flu the other day

My son just had his flu shot...well the mist.

His pediatrician said that not everyone will be getting the H1N1 vaccine. Drs have to sign up for it and being that it is government regulated they (the government) will decide who gets it. It will be free...with maybe a small fee for administering it.

Our dr did add his name to the list of drs wanting to receive it but said that is no guarantee at all that he will get it.

Monica you do not even feel it. I could not believe how much easier it was than even having blood drawn.

My husband told the nurse that gave him his that he felt the cotton ball more than the shot. lol
She said that everyone tells her that.

If you do not have asthma the mist could be an option for you. Our pediatrician said that the mist is actually better than the shot.

I'd like to hear the ratio of shots and subsequent flu.

Most everyone I know who gets the shot got sick as hell with the flu.

I, knock wood and personally, hasn't had the flu in years and no shot.

Call me crazy, but no, I OR my husband are not going to take the H1N1 vaccine shot.

We MIGHT get the regular flu shot and possibly the P-monia shot, but I just feel the H1N1 vaccine is just too new and am afraid of it.

We've never had the flu shots before. I was always "kind" of afraid of those too.

I'm just going to try to keep eating well, and maybe take some Vitamin C, and keep washing the hands and just hope my husband and I don't get it.

I'm with you on this flu shot thing, DK. I've never gotten a flu shot of any kind and never got the flu itself that I remember. Why try to fix what isn't broke? And again agree that many who've said they got the shot got sick as a dog anyway. So what's the point?

Not meaning to put down those of you who get it and believe in it. If it works for you, or if you or someone in your household cannot afford to get sick in any way, shape or form, then definitely get the shots. My dad has been getting the flu shots, but he'll be 87 next week and he lives alone. My brother and sil live just two miles from him and his lady friend lives in town. Dad is pretty healthy for 87. No medical problems to speak of yet.

This is my 1st one. I always swore that I would never get one.....until 2 years ago when the flu turned into 9 weeks of sick he**. It took my another year to decide to get one.

We'll see how it works out.

I have never had a flu shot (to my recollection) and I have only had the flu once in my entire life. But when I got the flu, man I was SO sick...I stayed in bed for 3 days. Literally, I only got up to go to the bathroom, or to puke...that was THE worst I have ever been sick.

I'll take my chances.

I am hoping now that the whole family has flu shots and are armed with antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer and common sense that it will help with swine flu. ~knock on wood~

I am not stocking up for 30 days as dr oz suggests (dont get the point of it cause we have to go out no matter what) and am probably not going to take the vit d and know that I wont take the NA ginseng ...will eat an occasional yogurt...lol

They have been really talking to the kids at school ... and kind of scaring them imo...so hopefully it will make my son feel better that we got the vaccine with him yesterday.

Flu Researchers Study 65 Families:

How long should you or your child stay at home after coming down with the flu ?

American Microbiology researchers at a San Francisco conference yesterday unveiled results of a preliminary study looking at the contagious reach of Influenza A H1N1, the so called swine flu virus.

It appears that the virus remains LIVE or transmissible for at least 8 days in up to 15% of the population infected with the virus.

The study suggests that infected patients who return to work or school shortly after the fever breaks are not doing anyone a favour.

People infected with swine flu are contagious for 8 days after they first show symptoms.

Did your mom tell you what the reasoning was behind having a month (3 month, lol) supply?
That has me baffled.

WOW, We are doomed in my area then because parents will still send their kids to school...long before 8 days.

My son picks up so much at school.

He was healthy , again, all summer long, and again when he reached the 2nd week of school he came home with an URI. Can't technically prove that he picked it up from school but.......

They are really hitting flu education hard this year at my sons school. They have had assemblies, passed out papers to be brought home of flu symptoms vs swine flu and talked a bit about each and protocol for not attending school, they are now telling them to use the "flu bump" as a greeting. The flu bump is bumping elbows vs high fiving, shaking hands, etc.
They talked to them about flu shots, hand washing, etc and have brought in communal hand sanitizer canisters for each room.

They sent home an announcement that said the last resort will be closing the school if it can not be controlled until it can be.

The kids are feeling anxious this year.

I never used to get a flu shot because one time that I did, I got the flu really bad. I have health problems and so I have to get it now.
I got the seasonal flu shot on the first of September and had a fever and aches the next couple of days but got over it.
I'm on a list to get the H1N1.

Anyway, I hope people really keep their kids home and stay home themselves if they are sick this year. I have already been around people who randomly say their kids were around others who have it or they feel sick themselves. They seem kind of oblivious of who it might be spread to.

WOW, I did not know that the sanitizer canisters were sold out. Scary!

At my sons school they are placed on the wall as soon as the students enter a classroom.
His homeroom teacher is trying to get them into the habit of it being the 1st thing that they do when they walk thru the door.

I just checked the us flu stats and PA's. We are already into the widespread zone here. This seems really early to have hit widespread. I thought that it was usually took until about November to hit widespread status.
