Ah, okay. Sounds like the south has been in a drought lately then? We don't like rain this time of year where I live; we need it during the rainy season for the crops; this time of year it can damage some of them. We also depend on the snow runoff from the mountains though.

christine,where do you live? People here dont know how to drive when we get snow.Seems like ever thing closes down.We hardily ever get snow.

Terry, I live in California in the San Joaquin Valley. Our snow usually stays up in the mountains, but we get snow down here on the Valley floor every couple of years. Most of us who go up to the mountains to ski, snowboard, or just enjoy the snow in the winter, know how to drive in it, but other people who never go up there don't!

It's pretty nice here. Our mountains (Sierra Nevadas) are beautiful.

Terry - I live on Long Island & even HERE the people get crazy if we get a more than a few inches of snow. All they have to do is predict snow & people rush out to clean the shelves of bread, milk & batteries.
We went from drought conditions to NEAR normal in one month..... maybe we got all of North Carolina's rain this spring? LOL

I am in Upstate NY about 250 miles from Mel and we do get snow. Lots of it usually. The first couple of times it snows each year there are a lot of fender-bender accidents until people get used to it again then it really doesn't stop any of us from getting anywhere that we want to go. I laugh when they predict 6 inches for downstate and everything comes to a stop. To us it isn't even a snowstorm unless it gets to between 12 and 18 inches and even up to 24 doesn't hold us up too much. Just long enough for the plows to get it cleared and we are on our way. If you just slow down, leave some space between you and the person in front of you and use your head instead of your gas pedal foot, you don't get into too much trouble.
Ice storms are a different thing entirely tho. Snow doesn't bother me at all, but I will not drive on ice if there is anyway that I can get around it. That does scare me because no matter how careful you are, you cannot stop skidding and you never know when it might happen.

Babysitter - The difference is probably in the BUDGET that is allocated for snow removal. Down here, one minor storm can practically wipe out a whole winter's snow removal budget.
I'm with you as far as ICE STORMS. Pretty to look at, but too dangerous for driving!

When we get an inch of snow here in the deep south the schools are called off and people rush to the stores to stock up on food. I grew up in Massachusetts and lived in Alaska for many years so I found this very strange at first. But people here really don't know how to drive in snowy conditions. We've had some very bad ice storms (power out for a week, trees down all over the place, etc.) so I take the threat of ice storms seriously. Snow, though, is fun -- especially since it's so rare here.

As a few of you know, I lived in Georgia for around 12 years. My THEN hubby and I moved the first time in 1974. Well winter came in and Georgia had one of the worsed snowstorms on record that year. Of course *Me* being used to snow and was able to drive on it, the people of Ga. just had no idea what to do? It literally scared them too death.
Never forget I had to go to the grocery store that day, and the whole town was closed up, NOTHING was open and no one was around for miles. I just couldn't believe it.
I sure did enjoy living there though. Such wonderful Southern hospitality was shown to us.

Geri, believe it or not, I think we need rain here to. It's amazing all the rain we had a few months ago and here we are dry as a bone again. Our grass is brown. From what the weather guy says, no rain in sight for awhile here.
I hope you get some rain soon.
<Sassy>
06-23-2002, 01:46 PM
Rain? Rain? What's that? We haven't seen rain since January.
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 01:51 PM
Oh my Goodness Sassy. Wonder what is going on with our weather here lately? The atmosphere has sure changed in the last several years.
*Running outside to do a rain dance for Sassy and Geri*
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 01:54 PM
Me too Cindyloo
<Sassy>
06-23-2002, 02:13 PM
LOL!
Would it help if I admitted to living in Arizona ... and in a desert?
Actually, it *is* pretty dry here right now. That's what's making the wild fires so much more dangerous this year.
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 02:22 PM
LOL Sassy..Oh that's right, I remember you saying at one time that you are in Arizona. I forgot. I went out there last September the 11th, oh what a day THAT was...but anyway, I love Arizona. I'm trying to get hubby to move out there. My nephew and his family are in Tucson. I fell in love with Arizona, MY kind of weather. LOL
*still rain dancing for Geri*
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 02:22 PM
Sassy,
I heard that there are fires there in Arizona,Be careful
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 02:24 PM
Oh yes I heard about the fires out there. Hope everything will be okay. Take care!
<Sassy>
06-23-2002, 02:47 PM
I'm in the Phoenix area, so the fires aren't too close by (no big trees in the Valley). But the fires are still out of hand. They've started evacuating people from Show Low. Not good.
I know the fires are a fact of nature (even the man made ones) and nature will bounce back, but it always takes a while.I keep thinking how a generation of kids won't know how beautiful the forests in the Rockies really can be. Or how beautiful "the Rim" is in Arizona. *sigh*
I hate stupidity.
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 02:57 PM
I agree Sassy, such a shame. I was also in Phoenix, gorgeous there to. We went to Sedona? I think I spelled that right. It was more like a tourist town, but how beautiful those mountains are. I was highly impressed. That's all I've talked about the last 10 months to hubby. I'll get him to move him and I out there one of these days. LOL...if I just keep nagging long enough.
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 03:03 PM
Sassy,
That's really terrible
Cindyloo,
It's a little bit cloudy here,and maybe some rain will come from them
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 03:08 PM
Alright Geri, that rain dance I did must be working. I'll go back out and do it again. Seriously though, hope you get the rain that you really need.
<Geri>

Cindyloo,
I have been playing on Lucky surf.com too,and I'm not giving up
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 03:17 PM
I signed up for that site to several months ago. I haven't been there for awhile though. Keep trying! Hope you win!
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 03:22 PM
Cindyloo,
Me too,and it's free,I think
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 03:25 PM
Yeah Geri, most of those sites are free. I play that scratch off thingy once in awhile. Forget the site name though. Ain't won nary a thing yet. You still don;t get any junk advertisemnets? That's the only thing I hate is getting the junk mail from those sites.
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 03:34 PM
Cindyloo,
I get that junk E-mail too
<Christine>
06-23-2002, 03:34 PM
It's a good idea to use an alternate e-mail address just for the purpose of entering online (or anywhere on the web that you're going to fill out forms). That way all the junk mail goes to one place and doesn't litter up your correspondence.
I've won lots of things on the internet. Here's one hint: When you get in on the ground floor of the types you two are entering, there's a better chance of winning because not as many people to compete with. Those sites have lots of competition. I have a friend who won $10,000 on Iwon.com but it was in the BEGINNING.
You can still win though; the odds are just really high. But persistence pays off for a lot of people.
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 03:36 PM
Christine,
I don't think that I can play on I Won.com,since I have a WEB TV.I have tried though
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 03:38 PM
Wow! Thanks Christine for the tip there. I went into IWon the other day and played something, forget what, but I remembered you saying that you knew someone that won 10,000 dollars, so I gave it a go.
I need to get another addy then just for the game sites. I'll do that!
Thanks again!
<Christine>
06-23-2002, 03:53 PM
That's too bad, Geri.
Cindyloo, you're welcome! I'll let you know too if I hear of any new ones starting up, if you are just interested the the money giveways. That's the best time!
I haven't done Iwon in ages.
<Cindyloo>
06-23-2002, 03:58 PM
Yeah Christine, let me know!
I got some sites that I signed up for, for free samples of stuff. Shampoo, make-up, candy, coffee, stuff like that. I sure get a lot of junk mail from those sites to, but I love getting something free like a sample of something in the mail. LOL
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 03:59 PM
Christine,
There is an I win.com also that you can win things on
<Christine>
06-23-2002, 04:04 PM
Oh yeah; I do the free samples too!
Geri, I know it. That site has been around a long time now. Did you try Webstakes yet? They have all kinds of prizes to choose from. That's where I won my MP3 player from.
<Geri>
06-23-2002, 04:18 PM
Christine,
I'll have to try that
