Has anyone tried Idealist by Estee Lauder? I bought some yesterday and already it is making my skin feel really soft and good. I have heard fabulous things about it and was just wondering if anyone else has.

I use a product called "Lisse Expert" by YSL. I think its in the same vein as Idealist. Its the first product I've ever used that REALLY improved my skin without any irritation. I have very sensitive skin.

I like Estee Lauder but I never heard of this Idealist. What is it and how do you use it?

<annie>

It's an AHA that you put on under your moisturizer. It does make your skin feel soft, is slightly moisturizing and good for healing any blemishes a little bit faster. It makes my pores look tiny. I LOVE this product! The best thing about when I worked for Lauder is that I got samples all of the time!

Annie, I am new to this whole beauty regime thing. I could not believe how expensive this stuff is. I splurged and bought the really big bottle, a whopping 2.5 ounces and it was 90 dollars. I couldn't believe it. Maybe alot of people are used to paying that much money, but like I said, I am new to this whole thing. I also use their Daywear on top of it and I really like the way my face feels and my makeup goes on. Super product.

The YSL product "Lisse Expert" does not have AHA's in it. I am sensitive to them. But it smoothes my skin and my broken capillaries disappear, temporarily anyway.

What are AHA's?

Alpha Hydroxy Acids. It's a great idea to use one because it turns your skin cells over and keeps the skin on top younger, fresher and cleaner. You're doing good using Idealist and then a moisturizer with SPF. Bremma, you're right about Idealist. It is a terrific product but expensive! It's a shame! But then a lot of times I think women wind up spending so much on cosmetics because they are always trying to find something that works and keep buying things. So maybe it's not so bad if you love the product. All I can say is -- everytime you see Lauder has a gift...that's when you make your purchase! You can stock up on lots then, and they usually have mini Idealists included. I frequently department store "hop" to find who has the Lauder gift when...they each take a turn. Usually between Bloomies, Macys and Saks I'm always ok. When I worked for Lauder people would call all the time to ask when our gift was. Write it down! Daywear is a good moisturizer too. Best one Lauder has with SPF. Resilience and Resilience Lift are good too but much better for older, drier skin. I don't care for the new moisturizer at all. Very greasy. Never recommended it to customers.

Thank you, Annie. For all that information. That really helped alot. I just love how my skin feels when I wash it now. Real soft and clean. You really know your stuff!

Must correct something here. I use Idealist and it is not an AHA product. It is a "sugar-derived, non-acid"
product. I was using Fruition, but the AHA was irritating my skin. Switched to this and have had no
problems. Go to the Estee Lauder website to find out more.

<annie>

I'm sorry. RN caught my mistake. Idealist contains no "acids" but does contain an ingredient Sodium lactobionate which behaves just like an AHA. Basically turns cells over. I know lots of people who had problems with "Fruition" because of certain acids it contains. Lauder always told us to steer everyone to "Fruition Extra" which was their answer to the all of the problems "Fruition" caused. Thanks RN for catching me!

I'm a big fan of Estee Lauder's products and find that even though they are a bit more expensive, a little goes a long way. My jar of Resilience Lift lasts me a long time.I also got a SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM for Renova and that has improved my skin. At almost 48 yrs. of age, I've turned into a high maintanence woman.

Resilience Lift is a terrific moisturizer! One of their best, hands down. Especially for drier, over fourty five skins. The eye cream is great too! Here's what I tell people -- It's hard to miss with Lauder's moisturizers...excep t Lightsource which is really YUCKY. Resilience Lift is the best for dry skin, Daywear for Normal (use it in the morning and then something else at night -- us girls in our twenties and early thirties give Clinique's new Moisture Surge Extra a try (it's full of silicone which is great for getting moisture into the skin) and for young, oily girls use the Oil Control Moisturizer (white thin bottle, gold top) which is a good, light and basic oil free moisturizer for blemish prone skin. 100% Moisture is a good moisturizer, but very basic compared to the others. It also has no SPF.

I'm still convinced that every line has it's ups and downs, but Lauder is very consistent with moisturizers. Don't touch Clinique's cleansers or toners or Lauder's toners however, they are way too harsh!!!!!!!!! I've learned that Cetaphil is the best cleanser!!! I've had two dermatologists tell me that and after I finally took the plunge I learned it was true. It is so basic and that's all you really need for a cleanser. The most important thing is to make sure it is not too harsh and Cetaphil definitely isn't. But it still cleans. I use the Gentle Skin Cleanser in the morning (AWESOME for dry skin) and the Daily Skin Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin at night (which takes my make up off too with out being too harsh). I got them both for $12 at Rite Aid!!!!!! So, it's worth a try.

I will shut up now!!!!!!! I promise!!!!!!!!!

I have a couple questions: First, I bought the Estee Lauder facial cleanser and I like it ok. Are you saying that I shouldn't be using it? Is it harsh as well? Also, when do you think I should start seeing results with Idealist? As far as redness and pores diminishing etc?

<annie>
05-12-2002, 06:22 PM
Is it the Perfectly Clean Foaming Cleanser (comes in a green or pink bottle). That one is very good. That is actually the only cleanser from Lauder I recommend. I'm also think that Cetaphil is terrific too and cheaper. Either one is great. Don't use Lauder's toners! Use Idealist every morning and every night. Right underneath your moisturizer. Your skin should feel better immediately and you'll probably notice results after four weeks.

I don't know how the rest of you feel but i enjoy annie's input on Estee Lauder since she worked for them. I also enjoy hearing the rest of your experiences on the products you like/dislike. It helps me make a descision ,where i will think twice on some things due to your input . I think it's great we have such a divorce group with knowledge even a nutritionist. I appreciate you guys input on things . To bad we have a few that we could do w/o like steve (who thank god we havn't heard from and this MTS person who one minute sounds normal then like cybil changes even nicks like were dumb and wont know. All in all i think this BB group is GREAT !!!!!

I'll also tell you all that Paula Begoun makes a great AHA product. It's just an AHA lotion you put under your moisturizer. It is pure and you can't find that from any other cosmetic company. It just does exactly what you'd want it to. Bremma, you might want to give it a try. You get a whole lot and it's cheap. You might see results with that even faster than with Idealist. Or use both of them. Put the AHA on and then the Idealist and then your moisturizer. The Idealist does give a nice feel to skin. Which one do you need more? The AHA. I would recommend that more highly. She has a 60 day return policy too, so you can give it a try. Some people have irritation to AHA, so if you do you can send it back and then stick to the Idealist.

You can access her products at w w w . c o s m e t i c s c o p . c o m

I really like her AHA/BHA because it's pure product and like I said -- you can't really find that anywhere else. But let's face it -- AHA and BHA is what gets the job done. Only problem is some people have irritation to the two. But it is DEFINITELY worth a try. I currently use her BHA product and love it.

The hardest thing for me when I worked in cosmetics was being forced to sell things I didn't believe in!!!!! Every line has pluses and minuses. Whenever my boss wasn't listening I would tell customers what I really thought. :) Lauder is a good line. It definitely has a lot of pluses. But it does have some doozies too!

Shana, I'm with you! I love this BB! I want to thank you all for all of your recommendations too! The philosophy lipglosses are great! I love the mauve (it's so natural) and have gotten a bunch of compliments on the ruby (I had to tell one lady where I got it from). I'm definitely passing all of my purchases by you guys from now on!

I am not having a reaction to anything I am currently using. I have used the Idealist for a couple of days now and have not noticed a thing. The girl at the counter said that I would notice a big difference in just a few days. I don't have problem skin, I have a bit of some redness in my cheek area but other than that, it's pretty good. I am 35 years old and just felt like now was a good time to start really taking care of my face. Oh, and the cleanser is their foaming cleanser in a light green bottle and it's made for the shower. Is that one ok???

Thank you so much for all your help, Annie. I feel like you're a freind of mine!!!

Annie, you are a font of information. I'm going to look for Idealist in a gift as you suggested. I find most department store brand people to be very UNknowledgeble about products. Its a reason I stick to YSL. I have a very knowledgable person who wont sell me anything I dont need. Yes, I spend more per product, but less in total. And without openly stating it, she'll let me know which of their items are not that great.

I avoid all AHA's and BHA's due to reactions. Thats why I like YSL's Lisse Expert.

<annie>
05-13-2002, 09:57 AM
Bremma, that is the Perfectly Clean cleanser which is a good one. I'm a little surprised they gave you the green one. Do you have oily/shiny spots? It's probably good for summer, but in the winter you might want to change to the pink one (for normal/dry). Give the Idealist another week. Seriously consider ordering that AHA lotion from the Internet. I think you'll find it's worth it.

Some people do have reactions (like MTS), but most people don't. You would have 60 days to return it anyway.

It is so hot here today in DC! Ugh! At least it finally seems to be summer!

MTS, you're right. A lot of people DON'T know what they're talking about. I think there are a bunch of people who just look at it as a job. But because it was always a part time thing for me, I really just did it because I enjoy it. I've learned a lot about skin and make up. Part of it is because I have seen a bunch of dermatologists, and part of it is just because it fascinates me. My customers were always suprised to hear I had another job. I think customers see people behind the counter and are totally expecting someone without a brain!! When I worked at Macy's, I couldn't believe some of the people they hired!!! Bloomies is a little better. I think retail hurts to find good people. But I know that whenever I went shopping I wanted someone who would just give me the truth!!

Annie, it's called Splash Away foaming cleanser. I really like it. Do you think it's ok? Or too harsh. It leaves my face feeling really clean.

Shana,

Please pass by my posts if you don't like them, but dont lump me in with Steve.

Bremma, Splash Away isn't bad. Use it to the end and then switch to the pink bottle of Perfectly Clean Foaming Cleanser. I think you will really like that one. It's a little lighter than Splash Away. If you don't like Perfectly Clean, then just go to CVS and get some Cetaphil. I think those are both a little gentler than Splash Away and do exactly what they need to.

Cetaphil is very good for sensitive skin. I've used it for years. Once I tried Victoria Principal skin cleanser in a try me kit, but it irritated my eyes.

I send for my products Natura Bisse at Neiman Marcus and the gal that I order from always sends me a flyer on any sales and always a thank you for buying from from her plus extra samples of other products that I want to try. That is a good sales person and I go back time and time again. I have ordered from Macys here in Calif and never hear from them again no matter how much one orders.

Maggie Mae, I worked for Macys in high school. I think they have the worst customer service ever!!!

I just ordered Idealist from Estee Lauder. After reading all the posts, I am excited to try it. Estee Lauder had free shipping for first time orders. I'll let you know what I think.

<barbm>

Well if any thing, I will give the Estee Lauder website an A+ for fast shipping. Make that super fast shipping. I placed an order for the Idealist on the 16th of May and received on the 18th. I tried it and it is really what everyone says. It just leaves your face feeling wonderfully, silky, silky smooth but not greasy. I was just in the mall yesterday and saw that if you purchase over a certain amount, you receive a gift. I bought the Idealist and some deodorant totalling 52.00. Oh well, I guess you have to buy it at the mall stores in order to get the gift. I am so far happy with the product.

I have been using Idealist for a couple of weeks now and I am not noticing anything in particular happening to my face. I love how it makes my skin feel really soft, but aside from that, it's really not making a difference. I actually broke out with it, which is something that NEVER happens to me. Could I be sensitive or allergic to it? What a waste of alot of money for me.

<MTS>
05-20-2002, 07:56 AM
Bremma, they should take it back if its causing an allergic reaction. Its worth a try anyway. I have no problem taking things back if they cause me a problem, but as I posted before, I have a regular cosmetic salesperson.

<barbm>
05-20-2002, 09:30 AM
Bremma, I would take it back. I am sure you will not have a problem. I didn't know this but lets say you buy a lipstick at Walgreens and you get it home and it looks terrible on. You can take it back. I never knew that. You have no idea how many lipsticks I have that the color looked better in the tube than on me. And some of those lipsticks are 6** dollars a tube. So I think Estee Lauder would take it back. I would at least try. Like you said, the stuff is not cheap for sure.

<bremma>
05-20-2002, 03:10 PM
Took my Idealist back today and they were very nice at the Lauder counter. They couldn't believe that it did not work for me but they were very sweet and refunded me my money. Nice.

<annie>
05-20-2002, 04:51 PM
Bremma, I am really surprised too that you had trouble with the Idealist. That is usually what people recommend after customers have trouble with the Fruition Extra because of sensitivity. Since Idealist has no AHAs, people rarely ever have trouble. That is interesting. Have you tried that AHA product I told you about? You might have luck with that. Especially if you're not normally sensitive to products. You'll see better results. And if you do have a reaction, you have 60 days to refund it. Shiseido makes a wonderful toner/balancer called "Hydro Refining Softener". It really makes a lot of people's skin glow. It is also very soft and moisturizing...not like a traditional toner, but it performs all of the same functions. Shiseido is usually good about giving out samples. Tell them you are worried about a reaction and would like to sample the product. I think you might like it.

So you would cleanse, tone with the Shiseido, then give an AHA product a try and then moisturize.

This is actually what I do everyday..except I do BHA instead of AHA...I'm super oily. :)

Let me know what you try next. Good luck!
